The actual designer of this piece is undetermined but John Widdicomb had some of the best designers of the era making furniture for the company such as T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings and George Nakashima. This item features wonderful sculpted feet. With 10 dovetailed drawers for ample storage, and stunning bookmatched wood grain that is beautifully displayed at the joining of the top and sides of the dresser as seen in image#7 and#20. This bookmatching technique ... moretakes a highly skilled craftsman to make the veneer from the top and sides appear to be one continuous piece. Even the back of this dresser is very well constructed as pictured. The high style original solid brass star hardware are the perfect accent to this remarkable piece of furniture. This beautiful walnut dresser was designed by Richard Himmel for John Widdicomb. Himmel was a one of the most successful interior designers during the 50s and 60s and designed for many dignitaries and celebrities including Muhammad Ali. It has three drawers with a lovely"pleated" façade and three lingerie drawers behind folding doors with starburst-like brass pulls. It sits on four flared legs that make for a unique and fine detail. I have a beautiful John Widdicomb makers of fine furniture Grand Rapids. MI original 3 drawer chest. IT is absolutely GORGEOUS! IT is so beautiful that if it does not sell within 2 months, I will remove it from eBay and keep it myself. There are dovetails on each drawer, front and back. Solid wood construction. I was told by Stickley furniture company, who purchased John Widdicomb furniture that it was probably made in the 1950's or 1960's and is made of Cherry wood. It has beautiful Gold inlays on the top, front, and feet. Some of the gold is worn away due to use by previous owner. You will fall in love with this piece! The quality and craftsmanship is outstanding. I did clean it with some Murphy's oil soap and then gently wiped it down. Measurements: 30" wide X 24" tall X 18" deep. Condition: The bottom drawer ... moreneeds a new drawer pull. This can be manufactured by a experienced furniture maker. A small stain on the left upper corner of the middle drawer. I could not seem to get that off. I did clean it very well. There are some chips on the feet due to wear from previous owner. The top has 5 blemishes where some of the varnish has worn off from the previous owner. Some of the gold trim is worn away from 60 years of use. MADE IN THE USA! I am not good at identifying finished wood but I was hoping someone can identify and e-mail the type. 2- 4 inch drawers. 2- 5 inch drawers, 2- 6 1/2 inch drawers, 1- 7 1/2 inch drawer with the unit being 5 foot high x 18 inches depth x 29 inches wide.
