There is a small lever at the top of the clock that accesable by opening the lid with the key and I set it all way to the the right for a few days and the clock ran a few minutes faster after about fours of observing off and on. And then I reset it to the middle location and clock was running within seconds of the actual time. i do not know why this is there but it is probably some sort military setting for timing torpedoes or navigational applications. The black base that is mounted at the bottom is probably not the original way this clock was mounted, I mention this because my wife is from Ukraine and her father served in the Russian army during the Soviet Union era and he asked me to remove the base and there is three location hanging mounts on the back side and two of them are broken and suggested that some one had pulled it away from it's anchored location on the Submarine during the break up of the Soviet Union so he concluded it is a make shift base because it is made of plastic and the Russians did not use much of any plastic materials on Military equipment back then. This would be great addition for military collector and even a vintage clock collector. This item sells as is with no returns. Vintage 40s Electric Mantel Clock Sessions Cast Metal Western Horse Cowboy Theme
Lovely estate find! This offering is for a ca. 1940's Sessions movement carnival clock with a western cowboy flair of saddled horse figure. Wagon wheels and twisted rope. These clocks were prizes or premiums at state fairs and carnivals in the 1940's- cashing in on the popular cowboy culture of Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry and Lone Ranger. The clock is constructed of cast white metal(magnet does not stick) in nice detail. The horse is saddled with complete western tack including a parade saddle with tapaderoes and a bridle with bead chain reins. The metal is finished in an overall goldtone wash or paint. The clock stands 9 1/2" inches high, is 17 1/2" inches long and is 5 inches wide. There are no cracks, breaks, or chips. The ear tips are intact. The clock does not work though it hums when plugged in like it ... morewants to. The convex glass clock lens is free of any cracks, chips, or breaks. Brass trim ring is in very good condition. The clock face has no issues. It is signed near the bottom of the face" Clock Movement by Sessions, Made in the USA. The back cover of the clock does have light finish wear from age and use. Antique, lion footed, mantel clock. No Makers Marks that I can find. Owner was told it could be a Kroeber? 8 Day Wind with Chimes. Case is steel and stamped on the interior 1548. Comes with a key and pendulum(not sure if the key is original) Clock face is very ornate with a beautiful gold gilt overlay. Clock runs and chimes. But overall operation is unknown. Stands 12" tall x 5" wide x 3 1/2" deep. Condition shows back side(wood panel) has been reinforced with a metal screw spacer and much of the gold gilt has worn off the decorations that adorn the exterior. This is an antique cast metal clock case with a very ornate angel pointing up above while a little girl stands beside the angel praying.The clock movement inside has been replaced with a General Electric battery operated movement which does work and keeps time. This is how I found the clock and comes to you as is. The case/statue is in beautiful condition and was probably French made but is not marked. The glass is original to the clock. It measures 18 1/2" high 16" wide and 9 1/2" deep. This clock is heavy and too delicate to ship through the Postal systems. We will be shipping freight and custom crating and securing to a pallet. CT as stamped on the works, along with N Pomeroy. circa 1847-1878. The movement is assembled on a piece of wood which may be pine. The screws holding the pine onto the case are all loose as the wood has dried and the holes are stripped. I believe the dial and both bezels are the original and possibly the hour hand. However, the minute hand has severed when removing the case. I do have the minute hand which broke off and it may not be original) I am not sure of what type of wind up clock this is. Nor if it is considered spring driven. When I disassembled to photograph, after standing back up, the pendulum swung and chimed for about a week. I am not sure of what type of service is required, probably just a cleaning and oiling and I am also in possession of the original key. See photo) The chime makes a great gong sound. Japy Freres Antique Clock Angel cast metal
I have the key for this. Occasionally it starts up and runs fast. It is sporadic though. There are many damaged areas on the clock. I’ve tried to note all of them in the photos but may have missed a crack. I don’t know what type of metal this is made out of. A magnet does not stick to it. It is marked inside with the Japy Freres stamp. The hands of the clock need a nut on the post to keep them tight. Around the back gold tone rim where the thick glass piece is that protects the inside of the clock is etched: Bapr 24+29 jeanet(not spelled correctly but my best guess) look at the photo to see if you can decipher it. The clock sits on the metal hand tooled horseshoe to raise the clock for the swing of the pendulum. The beveled front glass is free from any damage. The back glass has been replaced with a Lucite, why? Not a clue. The ceramic face plate does have some age damage, see picture#5. The clock has just been serviced by a professional as when I purchased the clock on spring needed to be replaced. It is definitely old as the patina on the metal cannot be fabricated. It IS heavy! Here we have an old spelter metal figural clock topper. I have seen these atop Ansonia and New haven clocks among others. This old sculpture dates to the 1800's and is in really great condition compared to others I've seen although the very tip of the feather is missing from his hat. Looking at the bottom you will see what the finish looked like originally. A gold color, but time has erased some of it on the exposed areas so he now appears as having a gold wash if you will. Originally a clock topper, he would also be a great addition to your sculpture collection. This old piece measures about 9" wide, about 9 1/4" tall X about 3 1/2" thick. FREE ship to the lower 48! The sons began to make wooden whistles, buckets and bird-houses. When the Depression hit, he lost his job, but it inspired him to go into business and sell crafts, like cornhusk dolls and woven pieces, that were produced by the local women. Over the years, he expanded the company. His son, Lemuel Oates, who would next manage the company, says he worked in the business from a young age. He explains the products were made from cotton scraps left over from making socks. Half-inch circles would be looped together to form a variety of products. Lemuel Oates went to college and then settled in Richmond. In December 1973, he returned to Bat Cave and took over the company. In 2007 his son Travis and his daughter, Molly Oates Sherrill, took over the business.
