Please scroll to the bottom of the pictures and read the terms under our last picture. This is another clock from the estate of a collector that we have been selling for the last 6 weeks or so. What makes this clock different is the petite size. It measures 13 3/4" wide. 3 1/8" deep and the dial is only a 3 1/2" diameter, including the case it's about a 5" diameter. Cute as a button! This is a French clock in a mahogany case. The movement is signed"Made In France" has a lion stamped on to it and just to the right of the lion are the letters" H& H" There are other markings on the clock but I think those are from the repairman. The dial is marked France as well. The dial may be porcelain and is covered with a bevel glass convex glass bezel. The movement is sitting a little crooked inside the case as the 12 is not centered as shown. The solid mahogany case is nicely scrolled but there are dings and scrapes which should be clearly evident in the pictures. This clock rests on little brass ball feet. I cannot get this clock to run. I do not have the key so I took a pair of needle nose pliers and carefully wound the clock a little to check to see if it runs. Antique precision marine chronometer made by Thomas Porthouse circa 1850 and offered with original housing and in very good working order. The clock movement ... moreis in original condition with original chain and detent escapement. The balance beats strongly with the charismatic chronometer sound and registering as half second jumps on the seconds dial. The maker was well regarded by the Admiralty and won several commisions from them. After his death in 1860 Mrs Porthouse joined forces with French to continue the business from the Northampton Square address - this being the centre of Londons Chronometer making. As the reader will be aware chronometers were devised not to be true time-keepers but to help Mariners navigate using them and a sextant to evaluate longitude at any point on the globe.

Up for auction is very hard to find and beautiful movement for antique French portico/empire clock. Manufactured in France as I believe around 1830. The movement has a nice metallic dial in a good condition and beautiful gilded bronze bezel. The movement was professionally cleaned and oiled, mainsprings were changed and now the movement is very clean and works perfectly- it runs and strikes in the hours and half hours. Antique French Clock Movement by Mougin
This is antique French clock movement. Manufactured by famous clock master Mougin(has his stamp on the back plate) as I believe around 18 5 0. The movement came from old clock master estate and looks very clean(shining) and works(there was note in the box from clock master that the movement was cleaned and oiled. That the mainsprings were changed and that the movement works perfectly) The movement runs and strikes on the hours and half hours. Though I did not test it for a long time. The distance between keyholes is approximately 38 mm. B etwee n center and keyhole 14 mm and the center and the axle for a d justment 42 mm. I n the box together with the movement there was also the bronze bezel with the front door with the porcelain dial and pan. It will go with the movement. The dial has small damage near numbers 7 and 11. The dial fits the ... moremovement. But the holes in the front plate of the movement for the pan feet have to be a little bigger(not for me to do this) The bezel will fit the opening approximately 4" a little less) What you see on the pictures i s what you will have. ANTIQUE CLOCK: French Ormolu Case,Gilt Bronze,1800's,Great Patina,New Movement
ANTIQUE CLOCK: French Ormolu Case. Gilt Bronze, 1800's. Great Patina,New Movement This is a wonderful Antique French Clock in the Rococo Revival Style. The case is fine ormolu. Mercury gilded bronze. I believe it dates to the 1800's. It has been fitted with a new movement and keeps perfect time. Very often these fine cases were made in France to be exported and sold in the United States. I believe this is the case with this particular clock. As it came from the estate sale of the scion of an old and prosperous Boston family. It is extremely well modeled and cast. Featuring design elements on all four sides. At first glance. These decorations seem to be symmetrical. But they are not. For example. The foliage on the front surrounding the central scallop shell is slightly different from side to side. This is true of all of the foliage ... moredecorations on all four sides of the case. This slight variation from side to side avoids the static effect of absolute symmetry, which can be deadening, even in decorative objects such as this fine clock. At the very top is a wonderful finial. Also asymmetrical, featuring what looks like a Tulip blossom. This rests on a neo-classical, fluted Doric capital. This clock is rather large. Measuring 14 1/4 inches tall, 9 3/8 inches wide at the bottom of the front feet and 4 3/4 inches deep between the front and back feet. There is no damage to this clock at all; it stands straight and secure. Some purists lament the fact that I sometimes place new movements in these beautiful old clock cases. But. As is often the case, the original movement of this clock was broken and corroded beyond all hope of repair. So my thinking is that with the new movement, this beautiful object can be returned to its functional purpose; that is, to tell the time. Which is does perfectly and beautifully. This clock has all of the charm and beauty of a 19th Century Antique Clock without any of the troublesome concerns often associated with such. And it never needs winding. I will. Absolutely gorgeous EARLY 19th century FRENCH Provincial tall case clock movement painted Michel Wehrle a Paullilac on a white enamel face surrounded by a BRASS repousse face with a relief flower filled urn. Small tear to the facing on front bottom right hand corner(see photo) and clock is not in working order. Antique Bronze Gilt Clock Case No Movement French Tower Shelf Mantle
Up for auction is a beautiful case no matter what movement you slide in here! This piece(mind you I am NOT an expert) has a very European look. So I am guessing French. Please take a second(or 20) to look at the designs/patterns and come to your own conclusion. There are 2 stamps inside across from each other. Both markings are the same, it almost looks like a cup or Paul with an S on it. Other than that I have not a clue. But it is beautiful. And it is HEAVY! It stands 9 inches tall at the tip of the finial and measures 3 15/16 from corner to corner. If you know the mark or maker name please share! If you have any questions please ask. Antique French Movement for Portico/Empire Clock
Up for auction is antique French movement for portico clock. Manufactured as I believe around 1840. The movement has nice porcelain dial in good condition(all white spots are reflections) the dial has some small chips on the edge under number 6; I think that these chips will be fully or mostly covered by ring(bezel) where the movement has to be install. There are also small chips around keyholes, practically invisible. The movement was professionally cleaned and oiled. The mainsprings were changed and now it looks very clean(shining) and works perfectly- it runs and strikes on the hours and half hours. The diameter of the pan is approximately 4 7/8" The dial itself is approximately 4 1/4" The movement comes with the key. No pendulum. I have the pendulum for the portico clock on Ebay now. Antique French Ceramic Silk Thread Movement Clock
For your consideration is this beautiful Antique French Ceramic Mantle Clock. It's 17" tall 16" wide and 5 1/2' deep. Beautiful floral ceramic case with numerous roses. Case has no chips or cracks. Normal crazing for an item of this age. The clock has a time and strike silk thread movement that is running. Clock is finicky in that it has to be perfectly level to run. Is missing strike arm but chime side strikes when tripped. Has a porcelain dial that has a repair around winding arbor as seen in photos 6&7 and a couple of hairlines also in photos. I would date the clock to around 1880s. Clock comes with key.

The serial number 3227 is stamped on the movement. The clock strikes the hour of the day on the hour and once every half hour on a cast bell rewinding is required around once a week with the key provided. The condition of the polished black slate case is excellent(please see photographs) having engraved guilded detailing. The hand painted ceramic dial is excellent without hairline cracks or chipping having a bevelled dial glass supported on a hinged decorated brass bezel. Or to be more specific, for the Art Nouveau period and style that this work of art was made in. It has been fully checked and oiled by a professional clockmaker, and works perfectly. The figurine was signed by the famous Aug. Moreau. One of the most famous craftsman of the 19 th century. The marble and the movement are antique. The clockset has some marks of usage. What we see is a beautiful Louis XVI style base on the lower part of this work. Forming a strong yet incredibly sophisticated foundation for the rest. In its midst we find the beautiful movement and dial itself. On top of that we find a pedestal, on which a beautifully crafted figurine was situated. She was beautifully ... moredressed, and seemingly pre-occupied with what she was doing. The level of detail in which the woman was created shows how talented this maker was. The clothing seems to be made out of silk and is seemingly floating through the air. Surrounding the movement we also find beautifully decorated ornaments, with all sorts of items and flowery patterns. These beautiful item would look beautiful in any interior. Magnificent French gilded clock movement made by Honore Pons one of the most well known and best makers of French clock movements as well as the person who is said. Saved the French clock industry in the early 1800's. He was awarded one of the highest honors for his services to French Horology. Note the 1827 Medaille D'OR PONS stamp on the clock. This clock has an ornate gilded casing with swans motif and what I believe is a metal guilloche dial. No hands. Most likely this was originally part of a portico clock. Guilumet antique french clock movement mystery clock plates
This is an unusual movement. So read description carefully! This auction is for a Guilumet antique French movement. Bezel and dial. It has mystery clock plates front and back. But was originally finished with a conventional gear train. The strike train is identical to his more famous mystery clock, while the time train features a Brocot escapement instead of the far more complicated mystery clock escapement. The pendulum length is 11.4 french inches wich is pretty close to American inches. The clock movement fits in a 4 3/4 in hole Dial is 5 1/4 in dia. Plates are 4 1/2 in dia. Dial has had all the numbers washed off. But since it was acid etched originally all the numbers and lines are still visible The dial center engine turning is still in good condition.
