The original hand-painted details are still present. The brass face and pendulum retain a wonderful natural patina and haven't been polished(this would compromise the original painted details) Weight driven 8 day movement with a bell chime(very loud) once on the half hour and sequentially to the hour on the hour. Also repeats the hour. She was created by A. Calin in the town of Autun. France. Autun is a commune in the Saone-et-Loire region in Burgundy in eastern France. It was founded during the early Roman Empire as Augustodunum. Autun marks the easternmost extent of the Umayyad campaign in Europe. The face measures 18 1/2" ... moretall and 13 and 3/4" wide. The porcelain dial is 10" wide. The pendulum is 36" long and 11" wide. The overall length. This is a lovely antique French Mobier clock with two weights and a gorgeous repousse pendulum. The clock face reads Louis Jaquine. St. Etienne. I do not know how to adjust these types of clocks so they run so I cannot tell you if it just needs to be set or if it needs additional work- however, I know these clocks are usually just needing someone to adjust the weights and time and then they work perfectly. Please note some small denting on side of face as pictured. I think it can be smoothed. 1870's Comtoise clock with Roman numerals signed"Auguste Morel à Montbrison" the center of the dial is painted with the Roman mythology scene of"Diana and her favorite nymph Callisto" The identification of Diana is through the small moon-crescent diadem on top of her hair; the rest of the scene includes nymph Callisto along with a winged putto(a cherub-like child) and the usual bow and arrow-quiver in a woodland setting that are symbolic of this mythological moon/hunting goddess. Auguste Morel was a well-known clockmaker in Montbrison(because of his expertise. He was commissioned by this town's council in 1873 to maintain/repair its four public clocks) Accordingly, this particular clock's age is estimated be in the 1850-1880 range. This clock was professionally cleaned and adjusted over a year ago but ... morehas not been in operation since. Signs of its age and wear are evident on the painted brass surround and on the the iron box; there is one very minor chip between XII and I on the enamel dial. The cables and weights are replacements and so is the vintage pendulum. Besides the winding crank. An antique very sturdy auxiliary key is also provided to make the winding easier since the weights are quite massive(both items are now lightly taped to the floor of the iron box) Clock dimensions at the widest and longest points are 19" x 13 3/4" x 7 1/2" pendulum dimensions are 43" x 12 1/2" x 3/4" Weights are 18 lbs for the pair. I took so many photos on this French Antique Comtoise clock for your viewing as I am not a clock expert. I will tell you all I see as I viewed it and took photos to examine it. The clock itself is gorgeous in addition to the colours. The interior looks beautiful and is clean to me and looks to be all brass inside with roping as shown. The long wag Pendulum which hangs on the bottom of the clock comes in two sections but they are together and I showed how it can come apart however I left it like this as it is suppose to be this way and I bought it in France like this. It lays flat on the floor also as shown in my photos as this way it will be flat on your ... morewall when working. I did not check the clock for working as I do NOT have the weights and I don't know exactly how. the weights are easy to buy on ebay. The clock surroundings are thin brass and as shown in my photos due to its age the brass has been bent in many areas. And rusty it looks to be on the upper Pendulum hook area however does not effect it and hooks do get like this. please see all my photos on this. however it remains charming and does NOT effect the beauty. Its a beautiful piece to display anywhere. Please view all my photos. and I priced it accordingly. There is also a large bell on the upper part and it clings against this bell this little thing on the inside. I tried it and it worked and made a nice clinking sound again the bell you see at top. The clocks hands are bent also. I took many photos to show you but they remain on there solidly as shown. The metal you see surrounding the clock and on the back of the Pendulum has rust as shown also however this is due to age also and makes it only more charming.
