Offered here is a wonderful 3 piece ornate garniture set consisting of a mantel clock and 2 matching candelabras by Imperial of Italy. This Louis XVI style lyre shaped clock is solid brass with green marble and bronze colored ormolu satyr cherub figurines. Brass garland, claw feet and scroll motifs with rooster heads. The corresponding candelabras have 6 lights around a taller center light with similar treatment. The key wind all brass 8 day movement is a German Franz Hermle 130-070 balance wheel system with 2 brass bell chimes. It is running well. Keeps good time and chimes properly. With a pleasant and bright bim-bam style. The bells chime on the hour with an hour count and once on the half hour. The 4" dial face is labeled Imperial and Made Italy. There is no damage to report and the condition is excellent. The brass is bright. The ... moremarble is clean and glossy, and the ormolu figurines have a nice vintage patina look. There are one or two candelabra lights that are not completely vertical in their orientation. But not severe. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs to the brass, marble or figurines and there are no broken or missing parts. The movement has a date code indicating this set was manufactured in 1995. All pieces have markings of a B or"Brevettato" a model number( and a foil paper label reading Made In Italy(see pics) The clock measures 24" tall to the finial x 14" wide x 7 1/2" deep. The candelabras also stand 24" tall to the top candle holder and the diameter of the 6 arms is about 11" This is a heavy set(about 40 lbs) and may need to ship in multiple cartons. Researching this has not really helped a lot but you will find tons of information about Triumph in the science over Death and I have no proof that this clock and that information are tied together. However you will find tons of statues at this time period for this TH.Science and they are not the same. It would be interesting to know exactly who, and the significance this clock was made. I think there is a much bigger story here. If I were to guess I would think it was made for a specific person and of Notability. It is made up of an antique mantle clock and a pair of matching five-branch candelabras. All set in porcelain vases with gilted bronze bases and towers. Sets like these were originally designed to adorn the mantels of a large living rooms and family rooms of mansions and palaces, placed over the fireplace to be used as a main source of lighting. All three pieces of this set are in good condition overall, but could use a good cleaning and tightening of the hardware by someone who is experienced in restoring valuable antiques such as these. There are no chips or cracks in any of them and only a normal amount of crazing and fading for items this ... moreold is evident. Although the exact date and origin of this magnificent trio is difficult to pinpoint. Extensive research and study of similar garnitures indicates that they were most commonly used during the 18 th century. Close examination of the patinas on the metal parts as well as some crazing and slight fading of the painted surfaces helps to verify that this set is indeed authentic and most likely from that period of time. The overall design and motif of the castings on all three pieces. Including the dragons that are suspended from each side of the clock’s vase, give reason to believe that the set was made in France, or possibly China under the guidance of French craftsmen which was a common practice during those times. The golden candleabras stand a stately 22” tall without a candle in any of the holders. The center branch rises approximately 4 ½” above the four surrounding holders.
