Who lived to the advanced age of 80, was born in Marlborough, Connecticut. He came to Bristol in 1828 to work for George Mitchell building clock cases. In 1830, Elias Ingraham, now a noted clock casemaker, ... morebegan working for Chauncey and Lawson C. Ives. He made over five thousand clock cases for them over the next three years. As a group, Ingraham clocks, and especially the clocks made under a label bearing the Ingraham name up until 1885, refer to clocks made by several different companies. The firm of Brewster and Ingrahams clock company was formed in 1844 and operated until July 24, 1852. During this time Elias designed the Gothic clock case, with four columns. The E. and A. Ingrahams Company was then started and ran from 1852 to 1856; and then Elias Ingraham and Company from 1857 to 1860. Then from 1861 to 1880 the name E. Ingraham& Company was used. From 1881 to 1884, the company was known as The E. Ingraham& Company. Finally in 1885 it was incorporated as The E. Ingraham Company. This well-documented history and short time periods for each company make it easy to date the early Ingraham clocks based upon the label. HIGH GRADE 22'' GILBERT WALNUT MANTLE CLOCK ' RUNNING FINE.'
HERE IS A HIGH GRADE WALNUT GILBERT ANTIQUE MANTEL CLOCK. I STARTED THE CLOCK UP A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO AND IT ONLY GAINED AN EXTRA 2 MINUTES IN THE 40 HOURS. I WOULD SAY THAT THE FANCY PENDULUM CAN BE SCREWED UP OR DOWN TO CORRECT THAT. THE CLOCK STRIKES ONCE ON THE HALF HOUR AND THEN THE FULL RANGE ON THE HOURS. AT 1 oCLOCK IT WILL STRIKE TWICE AND SO ON. PERHAPS JUST MOVING THE HOUR HAND CORRECTS THE STRIKES BUT I LEAVE THAT TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. UP IN THE LEFT HAND CORNER IS A SILVER BELL. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT DOES OR HOW TO MAKE IT RING.ANOTHER ITEM FOR A CLOCK PERSON. THE GLASS IS STENCILED WITH BIRDS A ND GARDEN FLOWERS AND IS IN GREAT CONDITION.THE LABEL ON THE REAR HAS LONG SICE FADED AWAY. THE ONLY LEGIBLE LETTERS REMAINING ARE E R T and Mfg Co AS YOU CAN SEE IN PICTURE NUMBER 7. THE BODY HAS NO MISSING PIECES ... moreOR REPAIRS. THERE ARE 2 KEYS.THE BASE IS 15' ACROSS AND THE HEIGHT IS 22' I HAVE NO RESERVE. THANKS.

GILBERT CLOCK COMPANY On July 5. 1871, the William L. Gilbert Clock Company was formed at Winsted, Conn. to succeed the Gilbert Manufacturing Company(1866-1871) which had been dissolved after a fire destroyed the factory. These firms had grown out of the clock making operations of ... moreWilliam L. Gilbert(1806-890) who, since 1828, had been involved in various clock making partnerships in Bristol, Farmington and Winsted, Connecticut. In July of 1873. The new factory complex was completed and manufacturing commenced. George B. Owen(1834-1916) had come to Winsted in 1866 as General Manager and ran the firm for nearly 50 years, designing many interesting cases and patenting several clock movement features. Owen also operated a concurrent clock business at Winsted between 1875 and 1894. In 1897. The Gilbert firm built a four-story building for a new case shop and another building by 1900 for storage and shipping. A three-story office building was built in 1902. The recession, which began in 1907, along with the financial pressures of their recent expansion headed the firm in a decline that culminated by forcing George B. Owen and his sons to relinquish control in 1914 Bankruptcy and liquidation were barely avoided in 1914 and a new manager. Charles E. Williams, was appointed and served until his death in 1930, just a few months following the stock market crash. Pressures of the Great Depression and money spent in developing electronic clocks sent the firm into
Antique French clock FINE HANDS Weighted Balance escapement running well 8 day
An attractive small French mantel clock with ceramic case and 8 day quality weighted balance wheel movement. The clock ran strongly as soon as taken out of the cupboard& wound up. The dial is porcelain and the case is also porcelain. The case style is unusual and that together with the lovely dial is probably why my husband bought it many years ago. It is being started at a low price as the market will decide what it is worth. All my items carry tracking and signature in Australia. And overseas in countries where it is available. Dimensions are as follows: 16cm high by 14.5 cm wide(moulding edges) by 7 cm depth. Dial diameter is 9.6 cm or 3.75 inches to outside of brass bezel.
