In 1830, Elias Ingraham, now a noted clock casemaker, began working for Chauncey and Lawson C. Ives. He made over five thousand clock cases for them over the next three years. As a group, Ingraham clocks, and especially the clocks made under a label bearing the Ingraham name up until 1885, refer to clocks made by several different companies. The firm of Brewster and Ingrahams clock company was formed in 1844 and operated until July 24, 1852. During this time Elias designed the Gothic clock case, with four columns. The E. and A. Ingrahams Company was then started and ran from 1852 to 1856; and then Elias Ingraham and Company from 1857 to 1860. Then from 1861 to 1880 the name E. Ingraham& Company was used. From 1881 to 1884, the company was known as The E. Ingraham& Company. Finally in 1885 it was incorporated as The E. Ingraham Company. CASE SIZE 20 X 10 X 5 800x600 SETH THOMAS CLOCK COMPANY Seth Thomas was born in Wolcott. Connecticut in 1785, went to work for clockmaker Eli Terry in 1807, bought out Terry’s factory(together with Silas Hoadley) in 1810, and in December 1813 bought out Heman Clark’s clockmaking business in Plymouth Hollow. Thomas continued Clark’s wooden ... moremovement tall clock production. And about 1817 began making the wooden movement shelf clock. These were cased in pillar and scroll cases until 1830, when the bronze looking glass and other styles became popular. In 1842, brass movements were introduced, and first cased in the popular O.G. case(which was made until 1913) Wood movements were phased out in 1845. In 1853 Mr. Thomas incorporated the Seth Thomas Clock Company, so that the business would outlive him. Mr. Thomas died in 1859, and Plymouth Hollow was renamed Thomaston in his honor in 1865. Mr. Thomas was very conservative. And after his death many new styles of clocks were introduced by his sons. Regulator clocks were introduced in 1860. The patterns and machinery for these had been purchased in 1859 from the creditors of bankrupt clockmaker Silas B. Terry. Spring driven clocks were introduced ca. 1855–1860. Perpetual calendar clocks were made from ca. 1863–1917. Some of the most popular later types include walnut kitchen clocks, made from 1884–1909; marble clocks, 1887–ca. 1895; black(Adamantine finish) wood mantel clocks, ca. 1885–1917; black enameled iron cased clocks, 1892–ca. 1895; oak kitchen clocks, 1890–

Who lived to the advanced age of 80, was born in Marlborough, Connecticut. He came to Bristol in 1828 to work for George Mitchell building clock cases. In 1830, Elias Ingraham, now a noted clock casemaker, ... morebegan working for Chauncey and Lawson C. This well-documented history and short time periods for each company make it easy to date the early Ingraham clocks based upon the label. Connecticut in 1785, went to work for clockmaker Eli Terry in 1807, bought out Terry’s factory(together with Silas Hoadley) in 1810, and in December 1813 bought out Heman Clark’s clockmaking business in Plymouth Hollow. ... moreThomas continued Clark’s wooden movement tall clock production. 189

Antique French clock FINE HANDS Weighted Balance escapement running well 8 day
An attractive small French mantel clock with ceramic case and 8 day quality weighted balance wheel movement. The clock ran strongly as soon as taken out of the cupboard& wound up. The dial is porcelain and the case is also porcelain. The case style is unusual and that together with the lovely dial is probably why my husband bought it many years ago. It is being started at a low price as the market will decide what it is worth. All my items carry tracking and signature in Australia. And overseas in countries where it is available. Dimensions are as follows: 16cm high by 14.5 cm wide(moulding edges) by 7 cm depth. Dial diameter is 9.6 cm or 3.75 inches to outside of brass bezel.
