Rare French Perpetual Calendar Mantel Clock Signed'Cromey. Bristol' Circa 1850 Very nice gilt bronze French Perpetual Calendar Clock with marble base. Enamel dials and the case is glazed(glass) on the sides/rear. The c lock's movement operates properly and the clock is in excellent condition. The 14 day movement strikes the hours and half hours on a bell with a Brocot dead beat escapement visible through the upper dial and a compensated pendulum of brass and steel peculiar to Ellicott's design. The gilt engraved dial mask; the upper white enamel dial with blue steel'Breguet' style hands and Roman chapter ring; the lower perpetual calendar showing: day. Date, month, equation of time, and moon phase. The numbers on the calendar dial around the inner circle indicate the difference between solar and mean time. Which shows ... morethe'equation of time' This allowed people to set their clocks by using their sundials. The movement signed'Cromey. Bristol' and numbered 31945. The calendar movement numbered 31756. The case is glazed on three sides and open to the front; multi-colored gold ormolu on a white marble base; surmounted by a'ruffled pigeon' numbered 39703. William Cromey is listed in Britten’s as a clockmaker and jeweler in Bristol. 1842. As with many French clocks in the 19th century they were made in France but sold in England. In this clock the retailer, Cromey, probably commissioned the clock so his name is on the dial. This is a wonderful antique"Rare" Spelter Eagle Mantle Clock. Hand made and hand painted. It is from Austria- Germany and was made around 1900. This large clock is made of heavy spelter and it is in excellent condition with very few minor age scratches or marks. The EAGLE design is spectacular, the feathers, wings, claw feet, beek, and the face are amazing and how he made the claw feet look so real. Beautiful hand painted colors, and how did they get those yellow glass eyes so deep into the head. The clock face is white with black numbers and blued steel hands, the face is covered by a round glass dome hinged door in excellent condition and the glass looks old. The brass 8 Day movement is spring driven time only, marked MDAE IN GERMANY, JEWELED, and it runs well. This majestic Eagle perched on a rock is signed A. Otto and stamped ... moreon the bottom AUSTRIA, JMD, 10603 and has it's original brass key. The measurements are 23 1/4" tall x 11 1/2" wide x 14 1/2" deep, and weighs about 20 Lbs not packaged for shipping. See photos for more details, and look at it's nice old patina. It was working about 2 years ago when it was moved from my late brother in laws home. I don't have the key and don't want to touch it as I am not qualified to do so. Very handsome sculpture of a stag on a white marble base. White marble base sits on what appears to be black and tan Onyx. Glass door covering clock face is broken at lower right corner. Corners on right front base is chipped.
