The French 8 Day platform escapement is signed J. E. DUPONT PARIS. Two hammers striking on a gong. One for the time and one for the alarm. The movement has not been tested or taken apart. Clock runs for 30 seconds than stops, probably just needs a cleaning. There are no cracks, chips or hairlines to the dial. The case is in great condition with no damage or repairs. Excellent detail to include the 4 fluted 3/4 columns. Four glass beveled sides surround the case. One of the side glass sides has some chips, but this piece could be replaced for cheap money. Original key included Ferdinand Barbedienne(10 January 1810– 21 March 1892) was a French and manufacturer, who was well known as a bronze founder. The F. Barbedienne foundry was started in Paris in 1838 by Ferdinand Barbedienne and Achille Collas. Who was the inventor of a machine that would mechanically reduce statues. They at first produced bronze reductions of antique sculptures of Greek and Roman origin. Their first contract to produce bronzes modeled by a living artist was made in 1843 when they arranged to produce the works of Francois Rude. They barely survived the revolution and financial collapse of 1848 which caused many artists and foundries to declare bankruptcy. Barbedienne actively pursued contracts with the many sculptors of Paris contracting with David D'Angers, Jean-Baptiste Clesinger, and even producing some casts for Antoine Louis Barye as well as others. Achille Collas died in 1859 leaving Ferdinand Barbedienne as the sole owner of the foundry which by that time had grown to employ over 300 workers at their workshop located at 63 Rue de Lancry in Paris. Ferdinand Barbedienne was made the President of the Reunion of Bronze Makers in 1865 a post he held until 1885. The outbreak of the Franco-Prussian war in 1870 and the shortage of raw metals caused him to have to stop m

Up for auction. We have a restored vintage one day Black Forest German cuckoo clock. The manufacturer is unknown. This a carved wood wonder. I just love this clock. The carving is gorgeous, of a house with pointed chimney, trees, and the browsing deer. It's just a work of art. It is complete with chains, weights, and an unusual pine bough pendulum. We ultrasonically cleaned and oiled the movement, refinished the frame, adjusted the gong, cleaned the chains, and tested it for several weeks in our home. This is a very beauiful antique wood carving that is marked on the back"Gustav Becker- Holzsohnitzer- Berghausen- Hauptstr. 80" I purchased this piece many. Many years ago, and it has been packed away in my closet, in my smoke-free home. It depicts a lovely country scene of a water mill that is very intricately carved in bas relief 3D. I am not sure what kind of wood this is, but it is very heavy and dense. The original wood color can be seen behind the painted"Gustav Becker" in the back The piece weights close to 3 pounds. It measures 15-3/8 inches wide(390 mm) and is 1-1/4 inches high(32mm) at it's highest point. There is a very old circular hanger on the back. Also on the back, there is a V shaped marking, as well as 2 very small nail holes. This may have been made if the carving was part of a clock, which I believe ... moreit was. The piece appears to be stained with different shades of brownish colors, as well as the green and white water that is coming from the bottom of the mill. There is some minor flaked paint along the upper right side, and there is a very small hairline crack along the right side rim(which I have shown in my pictures. This Fabulous Very Old German Hand Carved'8 Day' Cuckoo Clock was part of a collection of old clocks recently found at a private estate sale. Please view the pictures below) This rare clock was totally hand carved from solid Black Forest wood. Not like the newer plywood cuckoos. Probably created sometime in the early 1900s and is very impressive in size with a overall length of 24" from tip of Stag's antlers to bottom of pendulum with a width of 11 1/2" at the widest point. The focal point of the clock is the large'Life Like" Stag's head displayed on a plaque at the center peak of the clock. The Head is beautifully carved and has large antlers. He even has glass inlaid eyes. Accenting the head on both sides are large carved Maple tree leaves and tree branches. The center front of the clock is framed with ... moremore of the large carved leaves and branches. The face of the clock was also carved from wood and numbered in White Roman numerals. The hands are also very decorative and done in White. The back access wood panel is solid wood and marked"Made in Germany" In the peak of the front is a little carved hinged wooden door. That displays lovely Golden script lettering that says" SHATZ 8-DAY" The movement was created from solid Brass metal and powered by two Large metal pine cone shaped weights that hang on Brass chains. The Movement is operated by a carved wooden Leaf pendulum that swings back and forth beneath the clock. The Cuckoo bird( Also carved from wood) will appear when the little door opens up top on the half hour and hour. He will coo coo once on the half hour and on the hours, as many times needed for the hour of day. When he is coo cooing, there is a musical chime that sounds in the background. If you have been looking for one of the old German Hand Carved Cuckoo clocks, then this one is in very good condition for it's age with no repairs or cracks I can see anywhere. Highly Carved Ornate German/Vienna Wall Clock, 1890-1910
Gorgeous antique wall clock. Believed to be a Gustav Becker, with ornate pre-WWI styling. The cabinet is in perfect condition with it's original finish and highlights the deep, rich wood-possibly walnut and/or mahogany-and precise carvings. The glass cabinet door and sides are fully intact and functional. The clock is missing the pendulum. It was not fully serviced or cleaned, but the experts at the antique clock store who looked it over said it appeared to be in great shape and indicated pendulums were readily available and inexpensive. This treasure measures 44" long, 16.5 wide, and 7.25 deep. Empire Period, Split Column Mantle Clock says that this Eli Terry weight ... moredriven clock was made and sold at Watertown, CT by Lucius B. Bradley. Measuring between the two carved lion’s paws, this clock is 17 inches wide. It measures 5 inches deep and the overall height to the top of the carved fruit cornucopias is 29 inches. All of the carvings, including the split columns are in perfect condition, as are the mahogany veneers and the original warm finish. The thin glass in the door is handmade with all of the imperfections that early glass is known for. At the bottom is the original reverse painted glass tablet of a large New England mill with a water wheel. There are sections of the black background as well as parts of the roses and paintings, which are missing. This damage to the tablet is the only real problem with this classic Eli Terry clock. It is, however, missing its weights. The rest of this early 19 th century clock is perfect and original with no restorations. I guarantee once weights are attached and this clock has had a few adjustments. This clock will work again. This clock is fresh to the market and has never been in any collection before. Formed March 5. 1857, as a joint stock corporation, the Waterbury Clock Company from its inception was an operation designed to be a major user of brass produced by the parent firm, the Benedict& Burnham Manufacturing Company. Be sure to have a look at our other items! This is an outstanding find of a very rare. Handcarved, large, wood hunter clock that was created in the Black Forest of Germany about 130 years ago. It is by far one of the grandest antique clocks I've ever seen. I have never seen another like it and it's not likely I ever will again. I had always hoped to find time one day to do whatever is needed on the clock and did so just last week. I found to my amazement, that it does work, ticks, and chimes but it stops keeping time after about an hour or so but keeps ticking.then, I've run ... moreout of time and simply don't have time to press on with it. Wish I did so have it repaired(well worth doing so) do it yourself, or leave it the way it is; absolutely stunning on the wall. The clock is simply astonishing and one of the finest shield clocks I’ve ever seen. The clock is made of thick heavy wood and hand carved on the edge and trim. The case is lavished with pieces of antlers displayed on the top. Bottom, and sides in front and there is a large wooden deer head on the very top; I don't think the antlers are real but they sure look good! The Roman numerals marking the hours are nailed onto the case and the hands are matching and fancy to point out the time. The hands look to be made of bone but I'm not sure of this. The back housing is wood too and each side is held in place with three wire hooks on each. The back is nailed into place but the sides remove easily to allow access to the old weight driven movement inside the case. It's the very old style of movement with wooden plates holding the gears in place. I did service the clock as much as I could without removing the back. Beautifully crafted Folk Art Clock from the estate of Thomas Garland renowned English painter that resided in Pen Argyl. PA. Excellent scroll work of dear, geese, angels, leaves, just about everything you want in a piece of artwork of this type. This piece does have some damage and repair work and is missing and some of the scroll work(mostly under the deer on the right side) as shown in the picture. The 8 day movement has a ticking top-mounted balance platform. Is original and in absolute great working condition. This makes the clock a real bargain because of the high cost of getting one overhauled& restored. The giltwood case has sunburst like rays extending outwards with a nice brass case with a convex-shaped glass lens mounted to the front access door. The glass panel has no chips, cracks or repairs. The dial is porcelain with large black hour markers. There's a slightly defective area around 5 o'clock- that's however only visible up close. Original k ey and pendulum are included. Wonderfully Rare Carved German Black Forest Surrer Clock not Cuckoo or Trumpeter
Wonderfully Rare Carved Black Forest Surrer Clock Surrer Clock From The Black Forest in Germany circa 1850. Also know as a Whizzing clock due to the noise the movement makes when striking. These clocks have a Grande Sonnerie chime(strikes the quarter hours and then counts the hour every fifteen minutes) but instead of a 3 train movement it has only 2. So the two functions are performed by the one weight. The whizzing sound comes from the change over. For example, at say 5.15 the clock will strike once on a gong for the quarter hour, followed by five strikes of another gong for the hour. at 5.30 there would be two strikes for the half hour and then count the hour and so on. This clock is especially rare as it features an alarm complication as well. It also has a repeater function. With a pull of a small string it will recount the last strike ... moreso you can tell what time it is. Now the reason this particular clock is so very special is that it is fully carved. As most of these clocks featured Sheild fronts. Have a good look at the pics to see the detail of the carving. The dial is painted tin with porcelain cartoushe numbers. The hands are original to the clock as well. There are a few nibbles to the carving but nothing that is noticeable. I do not think the weights are original, the pendle looks correct but I will wait to get conformation of this soon. This clock is 65cm high. The clock is currently at my German Master Clock Maker getting a full overhaul. Please allow 6 weeks to complete. This is a rare complicated clock that looks stunning up on the wall. A must for any serious Black Forest Clock collector. If you want more pics please let me know. If it does not sell I will keep it. Where will I find another one as good as this. The clock is approx.7 ft high and 3ft wide.Head and shoulder design. Dark oak wood with hand carvings from Black Forest Germany. Believed to be about 100 years old. Bevel glass on door with round glass over face of the clock. Beautiful Westminster chimes, runs very well. You won't find one like this any where else. The Cornucopia design on top is the artist's way of telling a story with his carvings, connecting the top with the birds on the bottom. Outstanding condition, will make a great present! Family owned for 48yrs. Grandfather needs a new home and new family to love him. I have listed local pick up as freight.
