The Gilbert firm built a four-story building for a new case shop and another building by 1900 for storage and shipping. A three-story office building was built in 1902. The recession, which began in 1907, along with the financial pressures of their recent expansion headed the firm in a decline that culminated by forcing George B. Owen and his sons to relinquish control in 1914 Bankruptcy and liquidation were barely avoided in 1914 and a new manager. Charles E. Antique Victorian Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Mantle Clock - Wood & Brass
A beautiful Victorian clock is up for your consideration. This must have been one exquisite clock when it was brand new as the beauty still shows. It was made by the Gilbert Clock Co. out of Winsted. Conn. USA. There is a paper sticker on the back which reads L. J. Diehl Jeweler and Optician and a pencil mark which reads either 1914 or 1915. This may have been the place of purchase or may have been there for maintenance or repair. On the bottom of the clock is a paper sticker as well which tells the manufacturer and the word FRANCE which may be the style name. The clock is large and heavy measuring 15-1/2" long at the base, stands 11-1/2" and the depth is 6" The clock is made primarily of black wood with a maroon marble color wood both above and below the pillars in front. It has brass legs, pillar trim, side handles and the ... moretrim around the clock face. There is scroll work on the front bottom and hopefully you can see that in the third picture. The clock will run for a couple minutes and stop, maybe it has been over wound. It does ding once on the half hour and dongs on the hour, two times for two o'clock, three times for three o'clock and so on. The clock mechanism itself looks fine and reads Gilbert Clock Co. and there is a 1905 imprint, perhaps the year it was made. Bascially the clock is in good condition for its age but there is no glass clock face cover and there is no key for winding. Thank you for looking.

For your consideration is a Clarke-Gilbert& Co. with a great building painted on the glass that I was told represents the Whitehouse. There is a great old label on the inside with all of the internal works being there along with pendulum and key. I only purchased this clock for display and I am selling it as non-working altough I have never tried to get it going. The case is in overall good condition with only small imperfections and I believe it has it's original finish. It measures approx26 by 15 1/4 by 4 1/4. Up for auction is an antique Wm. L. Gilbert kitchen style mantle or shelf clock for the Victorian Era. This clock is 21 in. high. 14 in. wide and 4 1/4 in. deep. The movement is marked Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Winsted, Conn. U.S.A. Pat. June 3, 1879. The clock runs and keeps good time. It gongs on the hour. The painted decoration on the door is worn and the face is worn as shown. There is a working key included although not the original. The very top of the clock appears to have been broken off a long time ago. It still displays nicely. I did test the clock and it is working,but during a time period of about 12 hrs it did lose about 10 minutes of time, so probably needs some adjustment. The clock is pretty much complete but needs new cord installed into the motor. Someone has taken newer cord to the old cord. Old cord has bare wires touching the motor, afraid to run motor. Motor worked and kept time last time we tested several years ago. Tested recently and hands turn but did not test for correct time. Glass has a scratch. Face plate is in good condition with normal wear for age. Has original brass hands. May be missing some screws and back cover ect. Selling for part or repair only with no warranty's. Up for your consideration is a Gilbert Banjo Wall Clock. It has a beautiful wood grain finish with a painted floral design. It has been converted to be electric. However the cord is somewhat short and will require an extension. Made in the USA in Winsted, Conn. Measurements are 32 1/2" tall x 10 1/4" at its widest point. Condition is good considering its age. Antique Wm Gilbert Mission Style Wall Clock Non Working Decorator Piece
This clock must have been stored in a dry but dusty barn for umpteen years. It is very dirty and does not work. I have know idea if it would be something very minor like a cleaning or something major, I can tell you from my vast clock workers experience that the dohicky is not hooked to the gizmo correctly. It would make a great decorator piece if it was cleaned up. I'm not sure that it is from 1909 or not but that is stamped into the movement that was made by Wm. Gilbert. The wooden face plate is just over 13 inches square. I will only ship to the lower 48 states for shipping price quoted. From an older estate in Winsted. CT ~ A Turn-of-Century William L. Gilbert Co. mantle clock! It's an ARMY model#39. Cased in oak. It measures 20" high x 10-1/2" wide x 4-3/4" deep. The dial. With framing, measures 6-3/8" in diameter. The dial is composed of heavy paper; it shows tiny bubblings and a bit of peeling to the upper area. The glass door is reverse painted. Eglomize-style. The clock is totally unwound; we only cranked it up with the key enough to determine that it runs well. The chime strikes on the half-hour as well as the hour. Sorry. But we're NOT interested in trying to send this cross-country: LOCAL PICKUP ONLY in WINSTED. CT. I will be glad to pack it in a box and meet halfway with the winning bidder in our geographical area. I didn'r take it apart but the symptoms are there. It has no pendulum. It was over wound and I just put on a pendulum I had from another clock and let it tick down for a few hours. The movement is quite simple and can be totally replaced from Merits or a number of other retailers. I have no time to give it a tune ... moreup but have done dozens in the past. A very nice antique. Circa 1890's, Gilbert china Rococo style mantel clock. It is hand painted and gilted. In working order: tells the time, coil chimes the hours and halves. Includes a brass pendulum, no key. Case measures 12-3/4" tall by 11" wide by 4-1/2" deep. Very good plus condition: china without cracks or chips, finely crazed- with some pale staining on reverse base, and on front underneath the front door. Enamel decorations unworn, slight gilt wear. The dial rosette is brass with paper dial for numerals. Plain flat glass in brass door.

But I got it working and it ticks for an hour or more. Because of that, I’m sure it just needs cleaned. A friend of mine cleans her own and she said that’s what it usually is if it at least ticks for a while. It’s a beautiful oak clock, very nice case. I do not see any flaws other than a small ding in the metal part of the pendulum. The strip of wood the pendulum hangs on is old for sure, but is darker in color than the oak. The numbers are metal. I tried close-up pics of the works. I see where it is stamped 1910 and also Wm Gilbert Co. Winstead, Conn. It also has a stamped G in a triangle. 16” wide and 28” tall. Up for auction is a Wonderful Antique Porcelain Maroon Gilbert 8 day Time + Strike Mantel Clock. Circa 1890-1910. The clock's dimensions are approximately; H- 10" W- 10" D- 5.5" Model Number, 42. The Case: The maroon porcelain case is in excellent physical condition. I can not see any breaks. Chips, cracks, etc. There is some"pitting" on the top, nothing that I would consider distracting. The Dial/Face: The paper dial/face is in excellent physical condition. I can not see and/or feel chips. Breaks, etc. There is a scratch on the paper, see photo. The Bezel: The brass bezel is clean and closes tightly to the case. The crystal/glass is clean and scratch free from what I can see. he Mechanism: The Gilbert 8 day time and strike mechanism is clean and in working order. These came from an old clock collectors collection. Had a picture describing them as finials for a Gilbert Psyche Parlor clock. Look to be nice detail to them. Not sure how old or what kind of wood. 3 1/2 in. tall not including dowel. 1 5/8 in. at widest point.
