1906 Map Yellowstone National Park abutting Forest Reserve from Superintendent R
1906 map of"Yellowstone National Park and part of abutting Forest Reserve from maps by the U. S. Geological Survey. Map was in the Yellowstone National Park Superintendent's Report to the Department of Interior and Congress. Map size is about 18 by 19.5 inches. The map does not show the park portion that is west of the 111th longitude or north of the 45th parallel. Yellowstone Park Forest Reserve to the east of the park is shown. Yellowstone park Forest Reserve is now part of the Shoshone National Forest. The folding map is in very good condition. There are several tape repairs to the back. Mainly at the four corner fold points and the one fold line where it was attached to the book. Some of these repairs were not made with archival tape. It shows the extent of the Lewis and Clarke Forest Reserve in 1899. The Forest Reserves later became the National Forests. The map shows the classifications of land in the reserve. The Legend has six categories of land cover: Burned; Bare Summits(rock) Prairie; and 3 levels of density of tree stands. It looks like about 1/3 of the Reserve was in the Burned category. The area in Montana covered by this map is bound on the: North by the line of the GNRR between Columbia Falls and Midvale; West by Flathead Lake and Mission Ridge; South by McLeoud Peak. Morrell, and Lewis and Clark Pass; and East by the Great Plains(treeless) Choteau, and Augusta. My scanner bed is too small to show the entire map. But see an image above of about 60% of the map to see the detail level and condition of the map. Also an image of the folded map is posted to show condition. The map is in very good condition. Especially for a 100-year-old map. The paper has yellowed somewhat and is starting to age and turn brittle. There is some browning in the margins and discolor along some fold lines. You are bidding on this vintage map of BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST in Wyoming. This is an original vintage map dated 1957 and is not a reproduction. It measures approx. 22.5" x 22.5" It appears to be in good overall condition. It shows a nice worn. Aged and used patina. It has been folded and has crease marks. It has nice edges and corners. Please see all the pictures as the color looks to vary some from picture to picture depending on light. Glare and flash. Produced by The US Dept. of Agriculture and US Forest Service. It is 2 sided with information and pictured attractions printed on the back of the map. Marked complied from USGS Forest Service and other surveys. Denver 1956. A cool vintage map in good shape.
