Gold gilding at edges- slightly rubbed off. Nice condition. Flowers nice, the gilding worn on edges, one tiny chip on back lip not noticable, but evident when rubbed. A bit dirty. MEASURES: about 3" across mouth; 2.75" tall. Mustache cups do have an interesting story behind them. As they were a necessary creation of fashion history. Mustaches of all sorts flourished throughout the Victorian era. Becoming a form of masculine pride, and men went to great lengths to cultivate a perfect example. The problem being that in order to maintain and shape them required ... morethe use of a special wax. This created a problem for men with these hairy affectations, because when drinking steaming hot cups of tea or coffee, the heat melted the wax and sent it right into the cup and leaving the mustache a soggy mess, and the drink even worse. This is a beautiful Victorian era Mustache Mug. Heavy embossed decoration of"Think of Me. and floral decor. It is a porcelain cup/ mug. Marking on the base: The manufacture is not noted. But the artist's signature is in red lettering on the base. Experts state this may have been been decorated by outside artisans and their initials were noted on the bases of the pieces decorated. Size: approx height is 3 1/2 inches. Diameter at top is approx 3 5/8 inches. Diameter at base is approx 2 1/4th inches. Condition: very good. It is lovely. There is possibly some loss to some of the gold gilt of the leaves on the exterior. There is also a teeny flake like flaw near the top edge by the interior mustache guard.
