Perhaps Bristol is the pattern and 1790 is the exact date, but in researching I can't verify this. Please look at the pictures closely as there is roughness and wear evident especially around the rim of the cup and the rim of the saucer(the saucer may have a very small hairline but it may also just be the glaze, I can see it on the outside of the saucer but not the inside) Some crazing also evident. Surely a Staffordshire piece. Probably early to mid-19th Century. M easurements Saucer measures 5 3/4 inches in diameter. The cup is about 3 3/4 inches across the rim. The body of the saucer is slightly lobbed and counts 20 lobs. Foot rim is larger than that of the base of the cup but they appear to be painted by the same decorator. C ondition: No chips or cracks on the saucer but overall very fine crazing. The cup has not fared as well. Three hairline cracks along the top rim of the cup and a rough area about an inch away from the handle. The handle has three cracks which are under-glaze so either occurred in manufacture or someone has repaired ... moreand glazed the handle. The handle is well attached to the cup so my guess would be that these occurred during manufacture. 19th Century Blue& White Soft Paste Cup A lovely early 19th century blue and white soft paste cup in the blue willow pattern. The cup is 3 1/4" tall. 2 3/4" across the mouth, 3 7/8" including handle, and 3 1/8" across the base. There is a chip from production at the lip as shown. It is clearly not damage as it is glazed over. There is also a spot inside the rim from production and shown with no blue. No maker marks but also no chips or cracks. A good deal of crazing from age and noted for accuracy when looking underneath there is a spot that looks to be a chip at first but upon closer inspection the missing tiny section is present on the other side of the rim underneath and was probably moved in the kiln before firing. A delightful late George III/ English Regency cup and saucer. C. 1790-1820. This set is decorated with classic cobalt blue and gold, popular from the late 18th century up until today. The form and decoration of this piece is very likely Salopian Ware by Caughley, which is often unmarked. The condition is generally excellent save some slight wear to the gilding throughout as well as wear to the glaze where the cup sits on the saucer. There are no chips. Cracks, or repairs. Pretty cup and saucer is. I believe, soft paste. No markings. Nice floral decoration. Almost aesthetic style. Saucer is not quite 6” diameter; about 1-1/8” tall. Base is 3-1/8” diameter. Cup base diameter is 1-7/8” top is 3.75” diameter. Excluding handle. Stands 2-3/8” to top of body; 2.5” to top of handle. Very good condition with a couple minor flaws: The cup has a small darkened split on the rim about 1/8” long in and outside. Almost directly opposite the handle. There are a couple nicks around the base of the cup. With only one showing barely a tad on the side of the base. Otherwise only visible looking straight down at the bottom. These early to mid 1800’s handleless cups and deep saucers have a rare handpainted pattern. Please see details. I don’t know what it is called but the flower is almost like columbine but has a distinct center. I’ve heard it referred to as“purple eye” because the center looks like an eye. I’m offering these together(2 sets priced as one set) because there are some condition issues. There are no chips and only a ½” hairline on the edge of one saucer which is the one with extensive browning as shown in pictures. One cup has an internal stress line that has browned– it’s at the bottom toward the foot as shown. The other cup has browning but no cracks. The other saucer has only light browning. Saucers measure 5 ½” X 1” deep; cups are 2 ½” tall X 3 ½” at rim and 1 ¾” at foot. These are attractive just the same with shades ... moreof pinkish purple highlighted with yellow and green. Cup& saucer are hand painted with royal blue. Red/rust flowers green leaves with yellow accents. The saucer is deep. Like the kind they would pour their coffee/tea into and sip it from the saucer. Cup is 2 1/2" tall with a 3 7/8" diameter. Saucer diameter 6" and is 1 3/8" deep. No maker marks of any kind. PLEASE NOTE: There is crazing on the cup. The cup has a hair line crack(see photo) The saucer has crazing and a hair line crack on the underside. It would still make a great addition to any collection. It has a very detailed pictured on obverse of a lady taking care of a cat who looks more like a panther! On reverse is a nursery rhyme that says the following"GRANDMAMMA'S TALES, Poor Pussy was sick, and Lucy was sad. For Lucy loved Pussy most dear. And kind Lucy made her puss a soft bed. Cup measures 2.75" tall x 3" across the top. Saucer measures 5.5" across. Very good condition. Cup is slightly darkened on the side of one rim edge from use. Sounds worse than it is! S uper clean. Lovely Staffordshire Soft Paste Polychrome Hand Painted Cup & Saucer 1800s
This auction is for an Antique Soft Paste Polychrome Hand Painted Cup and Saucer. It is beautifully hand decorated in Pink. Red and Green floral palette with a peach edge. The plate is marked in green numbers on the bottom 218 and the letter A. I am not certain of the maker or the age. But the set is clearly old and likely originated from the Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid 1800s. It is in Very Good condition. Especially for that age. There are no chips or cracks in either piece. The cup has a tiny glaze pop on the inside bottom and both pieces have age appropriate wear of the peach colored rim. ANTIQUE 18th C. CREAMWARE PEARLWARE SOFT PASTE MOCHA INCISED CHILD'S CUP &SAUCER
You are bidding on an antique 18th century creamware child's cup& saucer. The cup measures 2 3/8" in height. And the saucer is 4 7/8" in diameter. These beautiful early pieces are in the sprig pattern is two shades of soft beige with two green incised bands on both the cup and saucer. They have age crazing and could definitely benefit from a good cleaning, but I will leave that decision up to the new owner. The cup has two short hairlines off the top rim, two very minor"nibbles" off the top rim, and bottom rim chips-the largest of which is only 3/8 of an inch. The saucer has very minor roughness on the top rim and"nibbles" on the bottom table rim. All of the above can be expected on pieces of this age and purpose.
