Copeland & Sons Primrose Demitasse Cup & Saucer - 1882
Exquisite and dainty. Bone china Demitasse Cup and Saucer, made by W.T. Copeland& Sons in 1882. The pattern is Primrose in orange. Both the saucer and cup are in an unusual shape; fluted on the four corners of a round shape. The rims are edged in gilt. The base of the cup has 5 rows of raised"nubs" The marks on both pieces are IV(class) 28(day) L(year) H(month) 12(bundle) and Rd in the middle of mark. Deciphered to have been made April 28, 1882. There is also another mark on the cup 2823, with a 1 or and I on top and F. on bottom. The cup is in excellent condition. Gilt is perfect. Slight discoloration in the bottom of the cup. Cup measures 2-1/2"h by 2-3/8" across the rim. The has a streak of gilt on front. The saucer has broken in 2 pieces and was glued. The gilt is in perfect condition and the sauce also has raised ... morelovely rows around the primrose shaped pattern. The saucer is 4-3/4" wide. Even in this condition. It is still a lovely set. I have based more on the cup. The cup is wonderful and it is good to sell as a set. I have inherited this piece and have always loved its daintiness. Rest assured this will be packed very well. This is a nice vintage Wileman& Co. Shelley Potteries porcelain cup& saucer in the Primrose Chintz pattern. In really nice shape as the pics show with no nicks or chips but it has some minor discoloration on the bottom of the saucer& inside the cup and it comes exactly as shown. The cup is 2 1/8" tall and is 3 3/4" across the rim and the saucer is 5 1/2" in diameter. This pretty set comes in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.
