Two brothers on a hunting expedition in Greenland, 450 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, discovered the graves of six women and two children who had died more than 500 years ago. They had been buried in the traditional Inuit way, dressed in warm clothing and provided with the goods needed for their journey to the Land of the Dead. A combination of low ground temperature and dry air preserved their bodies and their clothing in excellent condition, making the Greenland mummies the oldest and most significant archaeological discovery in the Arctic. How did they die? Why were they buried together? What had been the nature of their culture and beliefs? How had they survived in the harsh Arctic climate? To solve this icy mystery. A team of archaeologists, historians, and medical specialists used modern, innovative investigative techniques. They carried out their detective work with keen scholarly curiosity, combined with respect for these people of the past. While many puzzles have been answered, others remain unsolved. The investigation has revealed that the younger child was buried alive at the age of only six months. While the other, two and a half years old, had been born with Down's syndrome. Analysis of the hair of the mummies revealed evidence of air pollution at levels similar to those of today. Speculating on reasons for a mass grave, a form of burial the Inuit normally used only because of some catastrophe, the researchers have reconstructed the possible events of the past. The contents of the grave shed light on the every-day life of these people. Movement is marked, Elgin 645, 17 jewels, unsjusted swiss. Watch is running and keeps time. Case measures 26.1mm across center and is 29.2mm acros at lugs. NOTE all watches we list are old. This is a truly wonderful antique dated 1898 New York Self Winding Clock Co. This clock is in very good condition considering how old it is and is in WORKING condition as it was tested both by hand and with batteries and everything appears to be working as it should and the pendulum is working as well, it might need to be adjusted a bit and some cleaning but otherwise in very good condition, the glass is still very nice with really no scratches, the dark spot you see on the face in one photo is just from my camera and not on the clock, the wood has pulled apart a bit on a couple of the seams due to age as you can see in the one photo, but it does not affect it in anyway it is a very sturdy and heavy clock and the inside of the clock is all made out of heavy brass. These clocks were known to be one of the best an very accurate and were synchronized ... morethrough Western U. Co. who owned them and would lease them out and would send out a signal that would keep all the clocks synchronized so they would all be running on the same time which was very helpful for the Train Stations and they have a self winding system so they rewind themselves. It is amazing to watch how them work. This is truly a FANTASTIC antique clock and great for the collector and would make a great conversational piece, and you don't see them very often and certainly not in working condition as this one is. Reads Seth Thomas 4 Jewels. Crazing/aligation noted to finish as noted in pictures. I really don't even see a mark on it, not even around the key winding holes on the dial. Both doors are very good. It is 17 1/2" long x 8 3/4" high, and 5" deep. Vintage centurion 35 day self wind clock. It is a pendulum clock with chimes. Has key. It is a double wind clock. In very good cosmetic condition but the clock is currently not working. If you flip the hands around on the clock the chimes work but for whatever reason the pendulum won't keep going. This only recently started happening it has worked for as long as I can remember.But is definitely not keeping time now. MEN'S 1966 TIMEX SELF WIND AUTOMATIC BOY SCOUT WATCH
This is a really nice vintage 1966 Timex"self winding” Boy Scout watch. There are a few scrapes on the dial as shown in the photos but it is clean inside and out and ready to go. Although it is a nice running automatic watch and keeps good time(+/ 1 to 2 minutes a day) it will need a bit of a winding to run throughout the day depending on how active you are. A relatively active person wearing this watch all day may provide the motion to keep the mainspring wound but it never hurts to give an older automatic like this a wind from time to time. If it stops or is left unwound for a day or so. It will need to be wound by means of the winding crown on the side of the watch. This is so cool! Here is a self-powered AM/FM Emergency Radio by Freeplay. It is clear plastic so you can see all the internal working parts! Powers up through solar energy or by hand crank. This is in used condition with a few scuffs/scratches to the plastic(especially to the hand crank as shown) I have tested the radio and it works. Although you can hear the gears moving when it is on.
