French Bakers Clock Mother of Pearl Inlay C 1890
My mother brought this lock fifty years ago. It is a lovely“clover” form French bakers clock. It appears to have retained all its mother of pearl inlay and original paint. It shows its age nicely. The glass in the outer frame is missing but can be replaced. I’m not a clock expert but did have it examined by one. The movement is a French square plate time and strike(hour and half hour) with its original pendulum. It strikes on a small bell. The steel hands are very attractive. The glass painted dial is signed“Martin A Lyon” The clock is sold in working order and comes with a winding key. I can’t guarantee the clock. But it has been running fine for months on the wall. If it is cared for and maintained well it will provide years of pleasure. Approximate Measurements: 24” high. 19”wide, 5”deep.

This is natural for antiques to have some minor cracking, as the wood ages it expands and contracts. Metal frame around face is gold toned. But some has worn off. Face has normal antique age discoloration here and there. The glass has no chips. Cracks or scratches The framed glass front opens for you to wind the clock. This is an antique French Picture Frame clock. The frame of the clock is 18 3/4inches by 18 ¾ inches.And is in a Louis XV style. There are porcelain cartouche numbers held with bronze. The face of the clock is signed but we can not make out the name. We have not seen the back of the movement, so we do not know if it is signed. This clock dates circa 1880. The case is in very good condition. The dial has two small hairlines near the key holes. The clock winds properly(not over wound) but we were not able to get it to keep time for long. Dust, dings and normal normal signs of age. Missing the screws that hold the face onto the back at the hinges. Missing the pendulum and key. Missing three nuts that hold the face onto the movement. Otherwise has no apparent damage or repairs. I tested it with my spare key and both springs wound properly and did not feel like they were sprung or wound too tight. The chime feature functions properly when the hour hand is rotated, however the hammer is not lined up with the chime rode. I could not test the ability to keep time because of the missing pendulum. Good antique condition with slight details as pictured; a subsidiary alarm dial with hairlines. Brass handle, back, bottom, dial rings and feet. The original crystal glass is in excellent condition. Patent Applied For" We were able to match it at an R. O. Schmitt auction in April, 2002(they are the Horological Auction Specialists) and they dated it 1870 and said it was by the Terry Clock Co. We wound it up and it worked, both the clock and the alarm. It features four mother of pearl insets of leaves, with gilt vines painted around them. We do see that it is missing the alarm dial on the back and we see a scratch to the black paint on the top. It measures approx. 7 1/2" x 5 1/8" x 3 1/8" and is very heavy for its size. ANTIQUE RARE FRENCH CLOCK - COW WAG- MOTHER-OF-PEARL- NAPOLIAN
This is a beautiful and wonderful antique French clock with a gold looking NAPOLIAN standing on the top of the little clock under the arch. The inside of the archway and behind the cut work mother-of-pearl. Top and bottom has gold foil. The outside of the clock is made with mother-of-pearl and has survived quite well considering the age of this clock. The rail above the arch is broken on both ends and also one broken corner on the front platform where Napolian is standing. Note the two hearts at the end of the cow wag. The inlay mother-of-pearl in the arch and around the dial are in perfect condition. We have taken care to photo many pictures to show this clock from all angles and up close. The clock has a screw underneath the wood base up into the clock to hold it in place. We have left this alone over the years, as we have also not unscrewed ... morethe tiny screws on the back of the clock.This clock basically, sat on a book shelf and that was its function. The person in the family who purchased and knew about this clock in the early 1960's belonged to the NAWCC and this is one of the clocks he owned. This clock has been packed away since 1993. I don't know if the clock runs. There is a little key taped to the back of the glass dome. From previous experiences of selling clocks on ebay, you collectors know more than I do about the clock mechanism. The clock itself stands about 5 and 3/8 inches tall and at the widest part is 2 and 3/8 inches wide.The base of the clock is 1 and 7/8 inches deep. The dark wood base and the glass dome seem to be original to each other and to the clock itself. With the dome and base the measuremets are 7 and 1/2 inches tall, about 4 and 3/4 inches wide and 2 and 3/4 inches deep. The glass dome has one little chip on one curve at the bottom, other wise it is in perfect condition with old wavy glass and a very few natural bubbles from the making. A rare opportunity to find such a delicate and meaningful clock that represents a part of the French history. A real collector's clock. Se
