Handcarved, working, 8 day cuckoo clock that was created for the"Welby Corporation" in the Black Forest of"Triberg, Germany" about 75 years ago and signed on the movement by"Hubert Herr, one of the finest clockmakers in history! The clock is simply astonishing, shows little if any wear, and one of the finest I’ve ever seen. Frankly. Were it not for the cause listed below, this exquisite clock would remain in our home; no doubt about it. According to Reinhard Herr(Hubert's Grandson) This clock is made of cured and aged Linden wood that is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The case is quite large and adorned with four, large, hand carved wooden grape leaves on the front that are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy. Another is found on the wooden pendulum. There is a large. Carved wooden bird near the bottom sitting on a fir branch and a beautifully-detailed, equally impressive, carved, very large wooden bird at the very top of the clock looking as though he's ready to take flight. The top is a separate piece and is secured with the old hook and eye system no longer used. The detail is extraordinary and the case if finished in gorgeous deep mahogany; very nice! The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching hands to point out the time. There are hinged wooden access doors on either side of the case secured with a metal hasp on each. They open easily to allow access for any adjustments that may be needed for the cuckoo mechanisms. I believe it dates back between 1830 and 1850. The clock has a wonderful hand painted face featuring roses. It measures 13-5/8” long. By approximately 10” wide and 5” deep. The face does have a crack that runs from top to bottom which has been repaired from the back. It has a combination of metal works attached to wood plates. The hands look like they are heavy cut steel. The two weights that come with the clock look like cuckoo clock weights and I don’t know if they are original. The clock is missing its pendulum. Therefore the works are untested and the clock is being sold as found. They do look to be in good order. They also strike the hour on a gong. This Fabulous Very Old German Hand Carved'8 Day' Cuckoo Clock was part of a collection of old clocks recently found at a private estate sale. Please view the pictures below) This rare clock was totally hand carved from solid Black Forest wood. Not like the newer plywood cuckoos. Probably created sometime in the early 1900s and is very impressive in size with a overall length of 24" from tip of Stag's antlers to bottom of pendulum with a width of 11 1/2" at the widest point. The focal point of the clock is the large'Life Like" Stag's head displayed on a plaque at the center peak of the clock. The Head is beautifully carved and has large antlers. He even has glass inlaid eyes. Accenting the head on both sides are large carved Maple tree leaves and tree branches. The center front of the clock is framed with ... moremore of the large carved leaves and branches. The face of the clock was also carved from wood and numbered in White Roman numerals. The hands are also very decorative and done in White. The back access wood panel is solid wood and marked"Made in Germany" In the peak of the front is a little carved hinged wooden door. That displays lovely Golden script lettering that says" SHATZ 8-DAY" The movement was created from solid Brass metal and powered by two Large metal pine cone shaped weights that hang on Brass chains. The Movement is operated by a carved wooden Leaf pendulum that swings back and forth beneath the clock. The Cuckoo bird( Also carved from wood) will appear when the little door opens up top on the half hour and hour. He will coo coo once on the half hour and on the hours, as many times needed for the hour of day. When he is coo cooing, there is a musical chime that sounds in the background. Wonderfully Rare Carved German Black Forest Surrer Clock not Cuckoo or Trumpeter
Wonderfully Rare Carved Black Forest Surrer Clock Surrer Clock From The Black Forest in Germany circa 1850. Also know as a Whizzing clock due to the noise the movement makes when striking. These clocks have a Grande Sonnerie chime(strikes the quarter hours and then counts the hour every fifteen minutes) but instead of a 3 train movement it has only 2. So the two functions are performed by the one weight. The whizzing sound comes from the change over. For example, at say 5.15 the clock will strike once on a gong for the quarter hour, followed by five strikes of another gong for the hour. at 5.30 there would be two strikes for the half hour and then count the hour and so on. This clock is especially rare as it features an alarm complication as well. It also has a repeater function. With a pull of a small string it will recount the last strike ... moreso you can tell what time it is. Now the reason this particular clock is so very special is that it is fully carved. As most of these clocks featured Sheild fronts. Have a good look at the pics to see the detail of the carving. The dial is painted tin with porcelain cartoushe numbers. The hands are original to the clock as well. There are a few nibbles to the carving but nothing that is noticeable. I do not think the weights are original, the pendle looks correct but I will wait to get conformation of this soon. This clock is 65cm high. The clock is currently at my German Master Clock Maker getting a full overhaul. Please allow 6 weeks to complete. This is a rare complicated clock that looks stunning up on the wall. A must for any serious Black Forest Clock collector. If you want more pics please let me know. If it does not sell I will keep it. Where will I find another one as good as this. This Magnificent designed and Very Large Old German Black Forest Musical 8-day Cuckoo clock was found at a recent private estate sale. Please view the pictures below) This clock was carved depicting a old mountain Chalet complete with a sharply pitched roof. The clock is very impressive in size with a overall length of 20" from top peak of the bird's wing to bottom of the pendulum and a width of 11" at the widest point. This clock is one of the rare ones completely hand painted and has many eye catching focal points. Starting at the very top is a lovely and colorful Red Breasted bird with wings spread wide. She even has a glass inlaid eye. She is accented on both sides with carved Forest Maple leaves and tree branches. These were hand painted in colorful hues from the forest. The center of the clock has more of the carved and ... morecolorful Maple leaves and branches that completely framed the front(This piece was hand carved from a single piece of wood) Displayed on both sides are two more lovely colorful birds that have there heads turned inwards. The face of the clock is numbered in Roman numerals with hands that are very decorative.The face is marked at the bottom"Germany" The upper peak of the front has two little hinged wooden doors.Below the doors written in a gold metal script is the following"HECO 8-DAY" The door on the right will open on the half hour and hour and the Cuckoo bird will appear. As he bobs up and down with wings flapping. He will coo coo once on the half hour and as many times needed for the hour of the day, on the hour mark. There is also a musical chime that sounds in the background while he is coo cooing. When he is finished coo cooing on the half hour and hour the little door on the left will open and a little German man will appear and one of two lovely old musical tunes will be played in the background. This RARE 1945-49 US ZONE Old German Black Forest Hand Carved"Hunter" theme Cuckoo clock was found at a recent private estate sale along with several other old Cuckoo clocks. Please view the pictures below) This Black Forest Cuckoo clock was totally deep carved in a dimensional look showing"life like" details in all the animals. The clock is very impressive in size with measurements of 19" from top of Stag's antlers to bottom of the pendulum and 9 1/2" wide at the widest point.Really grand) There are many wonderful carvings and other items that catch your eye. So I will start at the top mentioning the large carved Stag's head displayed on a unique shaped plaque at the very top peak of the clock. The center of the clock is completely framed with more of the Elm leaves and branches with a Hunter's pouch at the bottom. This piece was carved from a single piece of wood(Incredible) On both sides of the center piece are displayed the Hunter's catch of the day. A carved Pheasant bird on the right and a Rabbit on the left.The face is easy to read with Roman numerals done in White and marked"Germany" at the bottom and framed with a circular Hunter's horn also caved from wood. The hands are also decorative in design. The back of the clock is marked"Made in Germany Bachmaier& klemmer US Zone" Cuckoo clocks are hard to date. But with the US Zone shows the clock made during the US occupation of Germany after WWII. The movement is of the finest German quality made and also marked the same as the back. It was created from solid Brass and powered by two pine cone shaped metal weights that hang on Brass chains beneath the clock. Vtg Hand Carved German Cuckoo Clock/Parts or Repair/Nesting Bird/Black Forest ?
Vintage hand carved Cuckoo Clock made in Germany. Once beautiful German Cuckoo Clock took a tumble and is now a question mark as to its working condition. Some of the wood pieces broke off and were thrown away. And some of the metal pieces were tossed too. What is seen in the photographs is what you are bidding on. Clock still has its original"Hand-Carved" label attached and you can read"Made in Germany" on the dial face. It may be a Black Forest clock. And if not it is certainly in the style of Black Forest clocks. As I was working with this clock taking these pictures I lightly pushed the Cuckoo bird on the left side down. And as he popped back up again he made a little"peep. Antique Rahmenuhr Black Forest German clock with verre eglomise dial circa 1840
Ancient Black Forest"Rahmenuhr" or roomclock. Circa 1840, with glass dial and surround in boulle-style decoration, reverse painted. I believe this is called'verre eglomise' The dial and surround is in remarkable condition. Photos show practically no loss of detail or damage. The movement is running and striking but needs to be serviced as it seems quite dusty inside. The movement has brass-cased springs and gears are brass with steel pinions. Some gears seem to have brass inserts in the wooden plates to bear the load. All is actually working but some of the bearings will need oiling and the whole clock adjusted after transit. I can see that the movement is easily removable from the dial by firstly taking off the hands. Then releasing four hooks at rear of the dial. I have not done this to try it but that is how the clock ... moreis designed and built. And the pix should show it. This is a rare survivor of another time but is relatively fragile and will be extremely well packed for shipment to the successful bidder.

Breaks, chips, etc. that I can see. The back door was re-glued at one time. The Dial/Face: The n dial/face is in excellent physical condition. I can not see and/or feel chips. Breaks, etc. The hands are original. The Mechanism: The 30 hour weight driven mechanism is clean and in fine working order. It has"Haller" engraved on the back of the mechanism. German Black Forest Cuckoo Clock Carved Wood ~ Very Good Condition, Needs Repair
Up for auction is a Black Forest cuckoo clock. The clock is in very good cosmetic condition. Just a very small chip at the tip of the left and right leaves, as seen in the pics. These would cover with a tiny bit of stain. I am not a clock smith but all componants seem to be there, intact, and very good condition. The bird topper removes for shipping and can be permanantly attached if desired. The clock doesn't seem to want to run. I start the pendulum and it stops pretty quickly. If I give the pendulum a pretty good shove and turn the clock hands the bird does come out and cuckoo. So it needs cleaning or some kind of repair. Shipping will be 16.99 FedEx.

Here for auction is this vintage moving eye dog clock. This is by Osuhr J. Oswald and features some nice black forest handcarving throughout the piece. Label is on the bottom and on the back in impressed letters: Made in Western Germany" and some other letters that we can't decipher. About 4.5" tall and 4" wide. Condition report: The winding mechanism for the clock is not working and is stuck. The eyes do rotate properly using the button in back. We are not sure about the other lever- it moves but we don't know what it's function is. The wood is in overall good condition with no chips or cracks. I was told it works. But I'm selling it as untested. From the research I've done, apparently these clocks are called" Hunter's Clocks" and have a standard 8 day Regula movement, but I have no idea how to tell. It comes complete with the chains, pendulum and two large heavy 1500 weights. It features a wood carved deer with antlers, rabbit, bird(pheasant) game bag and two guns. All the animals have glass eyes. Just above the game ... morebag is where the horn goes, however, the horn has a little slot just about the XII where it is stored. I don't know the purpose of this, but you just remove it and place it where it belongs(see 3rd photo to view this) A couple of flaws are: 1) the very tip of each antler is broke off, but isn't very noticeable, and 2) there is a small chip in the wood on one of the rabbits hind legs(see 3rd photo) The cuckoo bird and door seem to be okay, along with the two bellows. The buck deer has 12 point antlers. The inside movement mechanism has the following marks and can be seen in the next to last photo: Made In Germany ~ 164900 1674599 ~ A34-84 ~ 1704075 1705294 ~ Regula A really beautiful clock with wonderful detail. I see no reason why it wouldn't work fine. But I don't want to mess with it. The top portion with the deer can be easily removed along with the deer's horns and they will be removed when shipping. Antique German Black Forest key wind carved wooden wall clock c 1890s runs
An antique German key wind wall clock circa 1890s. It measures approximately 28.75" tall. Just shy of 13" wide, and about 7" deep. The clock is not signed by the maker but it looks like a Gustav Becker. Cosmetically, there is minimal surface wear to the case, though there is some wear to the dial. It looks like there may be a glue block missing from the back near the top and it looks like a center finial may be missing. The clock is in good working order and strikes the hour and once on the half hour. Please view the images as an extension of the description. RARE 8 day w/ calendar Black Forest German Shield Wag on Wall Clock DRESCHER? Here we have a RARE Signed German Wag on the Wall Clock. This clock has an 8 day movement with third hand calendar sweep. The clock is signed on the back of the face and movement plate. These signatures are hard to read but appear to read A Dk and J Drescher. The front of the movement is also stamped PB. The face is enameled wood and has a domed center. It has floral painting at the top and corners. It appears that the dial cracked and was glued back together at some point. The back of the dial has a signature and also what appears to be a repair date. The dial measures 13 1/2" wide and 19" high to the top of the arch. Now to the movement. The plates are made of hardwood( possibly oak) These plates are fitted with bronze or brass bushings. The gears are ... morebrass with steel shafts( pinions) The clock movement strikes a gong on the hour and utilizes a count wheel. This back plate has a hole for hanging it on the wall. Someone also mounted a plank on the bottom to use it in a case. The weight pullies are brass and are suspended from the movement with what appears to be heavy nylon fishing line. The pendulum looks like a newer piece. It has a wooden bob and metal shaft. The clock was oiled and I had the clock running with 14 lbs of weigth on the time side and 12 lbs on the chime side. With this weight it ran accurately and kept time. It would occassionally stop about halfway down the weight travel. No weights are being sold with the clock. Overall this is a neat old time piece. FANTASTIC* OLD GERMAN BLACK FOREST HAND CARVED CUCKOO CLOCK
This Beautifully hand carved old Cuckoo Clock was found at a recent private estate sale along with several other old German clocks. Please view the pictures below) This Cuckoo clock is very impressive in size with a overall length of 20" from top of bird to the bottom of the pendulum and with a width of 11" at the widest point. The dimensionally hand carved items are very artistically created depicting a large wing Bird at the very top. She has wings spread wide and even has a glass inlaid eye. The bird is perched on a tree branch with large carved Maple leaves on both sides. Below this top piece has more of the lovely Maple leaves and branches. This piece was carved from a single piece of wood and completely frames the front. The face is large with Roman Numbers and marked"Germany" at the bottom. The movement is of the ... morefinest German quality. Made from Brass metal by the German Regula clock company and powered by two metal pine cone designed weights that hang on brass chains. The movement is regulated by a carved wooden Leaf pendulum that swings back and forth beneath the clock. At the top of the front is a little wooden hinged door. This door will open and the Cuckoo bird will appear on the half hour and hour. On the half hour he will coo coo once and on the hour as many times needed for the hour of the day. This clock is in wonderful condition for it's age with no cracks or repairs I can see in the wood. The clock runs great and the cuckoo bird function also performs.
