Jakob Zeller-Tobler set up their Black Forest business in the town of Schramberg. Complete clocks were not ... moreon the menu from the two partners until later in 1866, instead the new business concentrated its efforts on making clock parts. Selling these parts to other clock makers allowed the partners to build up enough capital to embark on the design and manufacture of their first clocks. The company grew rapidly from the original parts business and after Erhard passed away in 1870 the business was taken over by his two sons; Arthur and Erhard Jr. The two brothers expanded production and by the turn of the century the production of antique Junghans Clocks had surpassed all other clock makers in Germany. Becoming the largest clock maker not just in Germany, but in the world. Branding played an important part in the Junghans success. In 1890 Junghans designed an eight-point star as their trademark. Something that has lasted to this day. In 1903 they employed over 3000 people and made over 3 million timepieces each year. Such was the innovation of the company that a special building was constructed in to the mountain side, a terraced building that allowed natural sunlight to flood into each and every workstation. Today this building is a listed historic building. Normal 0 false false false

After 1838 it had generally replaced cast brass and wood for making clock movements. Since clocks provided a market for brass. What could have been more natural for Phelps to do than to start a clock company in connection with the brass operations to use more of his own product. In 1851 The Ansonia Clock Company came into existence as a subsidiary company. It is probable from the clocks and data now available, that even from the very start two firm names were used. Thomas continued Clark’s wooden movement tall clock production. And about 1817 began making the wooden movement shelf clock. These were cased in pillar and scroll cases until 1830, when the bronze looking glass and other styles became popular. In 1842, brass movements were introduced, and first cased in the popular O.G. case(which was made until 1913) Wood movements were phased out in 1845. In 1853 Mr. Thomas incorporated the Seth Thomas Clock Company, so that the business would outlive him. Mr. Thomas died in 1859, and Plymouth Hollow was renamed Thomaston in his honor in 1865. Mr. Thomas was very conservative. And after his death many new styles of clocks were introduced by his sons. Regulator clocks were introduced in 1860. The patterns and machinery for these had been purchased in 1859 from the creditors of bankrupt clockmaker Silas B. Terry. Spring driven clocks were introduced ca. 1855–1860. Perpetual calendar clocks were made from ca. 1863–1917. Some of the most popular later types include walnut kitchen clocks, made from 1884–19

The new factory complex was completed and manufacturing commenced. George B. Owen also operated a concurrent clock business at Winsted between 1875 and 1894. In 1897. The Gilbert firm built a four-story building for a new case shop and another building by 1900 for storage and shipping. A three-story office building was built in 1902. CASE SIZE 18 X 11 X 4 1/2 800x600 SETH THOMAS CLOCK COMPANY Seth Thomas was born in Wolcott. Connecticut in 1785, went to work for clockmaker Eli Terry in 1807, bought out Terry’s factory(together ... morewith Silas Hoadley) in 1810, and in December 1813 bought out Heman Clark’s clockmaking business in Plymouth Hollow. 1863–1917. Some of the most popular later types include walnut kitchen clocks, made from 1884–1909; marble clocks, 1887–ca.

They still manufactured the same E.N. Welch line of clocks. You ... morecan date early Sessions clocks by the label; if it reads E.N. Welch it was made before 1903; if both E.N. Welch and Sessions Clock Company appears on the label it was made after 1903. The Welch name was gradually phased out as Sessions started making their own line of clocks, and by 1920, they started making higher quality clocks such as regulators, and started phasing out the old style pressed-oak kitchen clocks and black mantle clocks. Trouble arrived again for the Sessions Clock Company in the 1930’s. Of course the depression slowed sales tremendously, but in addition to the economic slow down was the popularity of the‘new’ synchronous electric clocks that left Sessions with a large inventory of their spring-driven clocks. By 1936, Sessions discontinued the manufacture of spring-driven clocks, and made electric clocks exclusively.
