I don't know what they were originally used for but you'll notice that they fit into a slot in order to be flush and attach on one end and at the bottom of a 90 degree corner. Penn Antique Restoration. 12" Antique Victorian Cast Iron Door Flushbolt w/Bronze Knob. Charming. Antique, internal, slide bolt made by, Sargent& Co. of New Haven, CT during the 1880's. We included a photo of the page in Sargent's 1880 catalog showing this flushbolt. The plate and rod/bolt are solid. Heavy, thick, cast iron, and the knob is cast bronze. If you are not familiar with this type of hardware. I t's the locking mechanism installed on one of the doors in a pair of double doors. For the purpose of keeping one door stationary, while allowing the other to swing freely(see last photos for a visual) The plate has a lovely. Aesthetic(Eastlake) style design. Originally. The raised portions of the design were bronze-plated, and the recessed portions were painted with a black, enamel paint. Antique Mortised Keeper for Sliding Floor Bolt Door Latch, Victorian Cast Iron
This is an old keeper for a sliding door bolt. This antique Victorian keeper is made of cast iron and was designed to be set into the floor or molding around the door so that the top surface was flush with the wood around it. It has a stippled decoration on the top. The inside measurements of the bolt holt are 1 inch by a hair over 1/2 inch. The top surface is 2 7/8 by 1 5/32 by 1/8 inch thick. It is 3/4 inch tall. There is some light rust where the finish is missing. There are a few small spots of white paint.
