Surface rust, grime and aging. These are from an estate sale and are being offered in condition that they were obtained. I did take a cloth and wipe some of the dust off of them. There is no major rust damage. Only light surface rust. Which I left. Adds character. They seem to function perfectly. They measure 8" in length and 5" tall when collapsed. From outside of one wheel to the outside of the other it measures 2 1/2" This set has a nice patina to them. So they could be used for show or add some oil and hardware and put them to use. You are bidding on 1(one) VINTAGE IRON METAL SLIDING BARN DOOR ROLLER/ HANGER ASSEMBLY. On one side there is a plate that is marked“BIG 4” and“PAT APR 24 1906 NATIONAL MFG CO STERLING. ILL” The overall length is approximately 10 1/4” and approximately 5 3/4” at the widest point. The free turning wheel measures approximately 3 1/4” in diameter. Approximately 5/8” wide and has a track groove approximately 1/4” wide. The U shape mounting bracket has 3 mounting holes with bolts and I’m not sure if the slight bend in the bracket was made that way. It weighs approximately 3 1/4 pounds. There is some surface rust and little pitting but overall appears to be in solid condition with no chips, breaks or cracks. I’ll leave the cleaning and restoration to the professionals. I salvaged these from a hotel(Rasthaus) I worked at in Germany. It was a hotel that the US military"confiscated" from Hitler after the war. For more on the History of this resort/hotel. Google afrc chiemsee. These hinges were used on the the revieving double doors in the back where trucks would deliver to the hotel. They decided to put in a rolling door and I snagged these before their journey to the dumpster. I shipped them home in my bag on the 1 year anniversary of the 911 terrorist attacks(flights were the cheapest in history on that day) Naturally. Airport security searched my bag because of the tremendous weight. They simply could not comprehend why someone would smuggle hinges into the US. Alas, I got them home and they have been one of the coolest things I own for more than a decade. But now I have children and bills and ... morelittle use for these beautiful hinges. They are in great working condition and are extremely solid. There is some rust around a few of the stationary pins(part that fastens to the door frame) where it screws to the jamb. It is minimal and doesnt seem to threaten the integrity or strength of the hinges. Also. The flat portion of this pin piece that attaches flush to jamb is slightly bowed(curved) I tried to capture this in a photo, but could not. I believe this occured from overtightening and, again, does not seem to effect the integrity or strength of the hinges. Paint is decent but peeling in places and has some old paint/varnish over parts. It will be easy to refirb or leave for the rustic shabby chic look. They are used but good working condition.
