Up for bids at auction: Up for bids is this lot of 5 antique. Reclaimed 12 inch long Barn Door Strap Hinges. These hinges were salvaged from an old turn of the century barn that was being taken down and have a beautiful old metal patina. They all open and close easily and are very usable with strong joints; prefect parts for an old barn board project. Hinges measure 12 inches long from end to end and 2 3/4 inches wide at the center joint. Please inspect the pictures and feel free to email with any questions. The items I sell are Barn and Farmhouse finds from old farm estates throughout Iowa. Illinois, and Missouri. Pair of Antique Hand Forged Iron Strap Hinges For a Barn Door or Old Door with Primitive Hardware. Offering a pair of beautiful hand forged antique iron strap door hinges with hardware. Circa 1880’s. It appears the straps were forged as a pair because the viewable design(as it would display on a door) has the same pattern. I.e. both having two holes that are set roughly the same distance apart. Plus. The white spots are on both and the heart finials are shaped basically the same with one ticking off to the top and one to the bottom. The top hinge is 15” long and is rolled back and flatten. It has a 5/8” hole. The 15 ¾” bottom strap’s roll back is shorter and more finely forged into the main body of the strap. Perhaps because the craftsman did not have the length of material needed to make the same shaped roll back as the shorter strap. ... moreIt has a ½” hole. As for the hardware. The straight 5” drivable piece fits well under the 15” top strap. In other words. It lines up perfectly so a pin can be inserted though both pieces. All that is missing. To make the whole set complete, is the pin. The hinge pin for the bottom is 5 ½” long by 2 ½” at the widest part. The size is such that it will fit both straps if someone wanted to switch the smaller strap to the bottom for some reason. They have a beautiful aged and untouched patina with good form and design. Both have breathtaking. Well formed hearts/spears ends. They are in excellent“as found” condition. I think the white on the straps is from aged. Dried out bird poop but I’m not positive. I’ll leave the clean up to the buyer as it’s my policy to sell antiques in their original or as found condition. Up for auction is a pair of large authentic vintage barn door hinges. They are heavy duty off set strap style with a decorative heart or acorn at one end. These hinges were purchased approximately 35 years ago in Oregon City. Oregon From a developer who had purchased what was then rural farm land. The old barns and buildings had been taken down and he was selling items recovered before deconstruction. I don't know exactly how old these are but I can tell you that the buildings had been there decades before they were taken down in the early 1980's. They have been sand blasted. Primed, and painted flat black with high quality enamel. They work superbly and are ready to be installed. The burrs around the hinge area were left for character. This is an awesome lot of 8 steel or cast iron barn door strap hinges that came out of a very old NW Ohio barn. Six of them are 12" and two are 10" Not sure on a maker and they open and close but I would think some oil will loosen them up. Been in the barn for decades. Probably at least 100 years old. 2 Huge Antique Embossed 1900's Barn Door Strap hinges
Heres a pair of neat antique barn door hinges to re-use or repurpose. Large in size 20" long. Embossed Pat. Apr.17 1900. Great overall Patina. The bands take a magnet(steel) but the brackets do not. I assume probably brass. I do not see any damage or repairs. One cotter pin is missing and you may need to use some w-d 40 to get the pins out.
