The ceramic housing is adorned with cherubs and is in good condition with no damage. The porcelain face has several cracks. No keys for winding or time fast and slow. Spectacular S Marti Et Cie Painted Porcelain & Gilt Clock
Up for sale is this wonderful antique French clock. Beautiful hand painted porcelain tablet and finial. Exquisitely detailed case. I believe this is a gilt bronze finish over spelter, not sure if that's correct terminology, but you can see its beautiful no matter what it's made of. The movement is signed Marti et Cie, a very famous French maker, who produced some clocks and movements(not this one) for Tiffany. Everything looks to be in spectacular shape, there is one odd spot on the back that I showed in a close up, looks like a fault in the casting to me. The movement is in working condition it has been keeping time and striking the past few days, but I do not know the last time it was serviced. Just a spectacular piece overall. Measures about 17" tall. Shipping charges include full insurance.

Samuel Marti et Cie were well known clock makers in Paris in the mid eighteenth century. In 1860 it's known that their premises were situated at Le Pays de Montbeliard. On the dial face is printed N G Woods& Sons. Boston. It was a common practice for Marti clocks to be printed with the retailers business name. This clock is associated with a 19th century jeweler in Boston MA. Born: 5 Oct 1824. Leominster MA Marriage: Maria Sizer Johnson on 25 Feb 1847 in Leominster MA Died: 24 Apr 1907. Boston MA General notes: Silversmith and jeweler Events in his life were: Apprenticed from about 1840 to 1842 to Moses Cushman Wood in Westborough MA Apprenticed from 1842 to 1844 to WILLIAM P. MCKAY& Co. in Boston MA He worked from about 1844 to 1848 as a jeweler in Saco ME He worked from 1846 to 1848 as a jeweler in Biddeford ME He kept his Saco ... morestore open and travelled between the two. He worked from circa 1848 to 1860 as a jeweler in Boston MA He appeared on the 1850 census taken at Boston MA. Listed as a jeweler. This is a French antique that you would normally see in a museum. This piece would only been only found in the homes of the richest of society. It is made of bronze. Black slate, ruby pallet jewel escapement pins, with the finest 1950's French manufactured brass Marti movement. The movement has been oiled and works beautifully. As is typical of this clock, the movement speed adjustment is accomplished on the pendulum and on the front face. The clock comes with original pendulum and 2 keys; one for the winding and one for speed adjustment. This is a rare chance for someone to own a precious piece of history(165 years old) in unbelievable condition. Defects are as shown in pictures; some minor chips on slate corners. All the gold etching has been restored.
