It chimes once every quarter hour progressively and once for each hour in succession as it advances through the day in a clear. Beautiful Westminster Chime. The clock has been cleaned, oiled and checked in my shop. It ran one full week prior to listing and will continue to run in my shop until sold. Beautifully modelled and finished in glorious ormolu(finely gilded bronze or doré bronze) It is of balloon form with bold scrolls and acanthus swags. To the top a large rococo flourish. The front and sides have sound frets backed with red velvet. We have carefully and completely cleaned and restored the clock to a very high standard. The large and stunning dial is enamel on copper and is complete with it's original finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex bezel. The bezel is marked for the retailer Charles Hour. The French movement is of high quality and has the makers mark on the movement backplate of Louis Japy. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker and thoroughly tested before presenting it for sale. Pendulum is original. The putti are taking birds from the nest at their feet. The open cage sits next to them. The two Sevres style porcelain panels also feature putti or cherubs with birds. I am not a clock expert so please bear with me. The clock has a pendulum that that is numbered"347" the same as the movement- so I think it's original. The key was made in England so I doubt that is original. I gently wound the clock a little(without the pendulum installed) and it runs. But obviously too fast. It chimes on the hour. I hung the pendulum where I thought it should go and the clock did not run very long. Please email me if you have any specific questions, and I'll do my best to answer them. SIZE: The clock is 12.75 inches tall. And approximately 13.5 inches wide. It weighs 11 pounds 3 ounces. The clock face is just under 3.5 inches diameter. CONDITION: There are some rubs and tarnish to the finish. I haven't tried cleaning the clock. I don't see any repairs or damage. In the photos. You can see what looks like some"separations" in the metal but it is not damage- some pieces were cast separately. Please see the close up pictures for the best description of the cosmetic condition. CT as stamped on the works, along with N Pomeroy. circa 1847-1878. The movement is assembled on a piece of wood which may be pine. The screws holding the pine onto the case are all loose as the wood has dried and the holes are stripped. I believe the dial and both bezels are the original and possibly the hour hand. However, the minute hand has severed when removing the case. I do have the minute hand which broke off and it may not be original) I am not sure of what type of wind up clock this is. Nor if it is considered spring driven. When I disassembled to photograph, after standing back up, the pendulum swung and chimed for about a week. I am not sure of what type of service is required, probably just a cleaning and oiling and I am also in possession of the original key. See photo) The chime makes a great gong sound. I have not attempted to wind up again so it is currently not running. I am also uncertain if this is considered an alarm. The pendulum is very heavy and is adorned with rhinestones or paste stones. This is a HEAVY piece. We identified this clock from pictures we found. There is a porcelain face. With an open escapement. When we searched for where they put their identifying mark, we read that it is said to be on the underside of what the movement is attached to, and we did not take it apart to verify. We did get it to work for a short time, although we are not sure how long it will work. It is off a bit, so it will need some adjustment and cleaning for sure. It does strike the number of the hour and once on the half. This is a large piece measuring approximately 16 1/2" wide and 13 3/4" tall and 6" deep. This piece is in good condition. It could use some cleaning. The center cap on the dial is missing. And there are 2 screws missing from the back. This would look great on your shelf or mantle. Good Luck! The pendulum has the following wording"Patd MCH 1st 1881" Very nice floral design on the glass door. This clock is 133 years old and still works well and has a beautiful chime on the hour. Beautiful design to the wood cabinet with fine original finish- has a type of clip on the back between two panels to secure the old wood which is holding very strong. The clock comes with the key. But I have a key that I checked the clock out with and the pegs seem to me that they are very tight, so I don't know if it's a matter of it being wound too tight or just ... moreneeds some adjusting or what, so this is a As Is auction. I moved the pendulum by hand and it moved the hands for a few minutes and I placed the hand right before 9 o'clock and it moved to 9 on it's own and the hammer struck the chime 9 times on it's on.but other than that. I did not spend a lot of time moving the pendulum by hand. The glass door face is not cracked or chipped. The Numbers face is curled in a few spots which you should be able to see in the photos. It does show scratches and scuffs as you can see by the photos. It is missing the back cover.it comes just like you see it. One of the front legs is a little loose. I think it's just a matter of missing a nail. The clock measures: approx. 15" Long x 10 1/4" Tall x 6" Wide I did not polish or clean the clock. So I know it can look better cosmetically with a good cleaning or polishing with some scratch guard if you choose to. Please ask any questions you have Before bidding. All sales are final. All set in a rich wooden Art Deco case with an excellent veneer in great condition for its age. It is not polished but left in its rich natural wood veneer. It is ticking away reliably and plays the music of the Westminster bells of Big Ben in London. What a style for your drawing room mantel and is in great condition for its age. The hands are fine now but one has been repaired(hard to notice) The dial and shiny chrome bezel are fine too. It ahs a convex glass and closes smoothly and snugly. All set in a rich dark red wooden Napoleon Hat case with an great crazed patina and in great condition for its age. It is not polished but left in its rich natural wood veneer. It is ticking away and plays the music of the Westminster bells of Big Ben in London on the quarter hour and chimes a chord on the hour as well. Item Description This clock came from a local estate sale in Massachusetts. It does function. And keeps time. Although each day it seems to be 1-2 minutes fast. It was tested. For 1 full week and didn't stop the entire time. I am unsure exactly how to set the. Alarm and play with the hourly and half hourly chimes. So please ask and be clear. With your questions if you need me to test anything. The clock's exterior appears. To have an odd kind of finish. Either that or the old finish has worn away and this is. All that is left.
