Very nice oler piece that I believe was to be a watch hutch. Had the ... moreclock in it when found at estate sale. Clock does not work but I can include. Opening is roughly 2.25" x 2.25". Measures 12.5" tall x 4" at widest x 2" at deepest. Opening has some chipping away as shown which was probably to fit clock face. There are 2 cracks on either side of opening. Also what appears to be a black ink mark. Chips and roughness to the Gothic peaks. Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. Look at the carved handles, which are much better than normal, and how thick the top and swing sides and writing surface are. Everything on this piece is much better quality than the average desk. Pennsylvania Item# ... more130401YYR21 This is a simply outstanding work of art- an American Chippendale Period Tall Case Grandfather Clock from Pennsylvania. This clock was crafted by clockmaker Jacob Diehl of Berks County, Pennsylvania. Born in 1776, Diehl was active in 1798 when he took over the shop of Daniel Rose, one of the most famous clockmakers of Reading in the period. He operated that shop until 1804 in the absence of Rose, after which he worked alone. Two examples of his work are preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City(accession numbers 1980.458& 1976.279) One of these described at length in the publication Notable Acquisitions. 1980-81. Metropolitan Museum of Art(New York, NY) This example conforms closely to the overall form of the aforementioned example(1976.279) Giving good insight into how the finials originally would have looked prior to the current replacements. It is a very fine piece, well preserved in every way and retaining originality in almost every aspect of the clock and case. The enameled dial is a fine work with a painted rocking-ship moon phase beneath an arabic numeral calendar of 1-29(1/2) days, peaking out over two carefully detailed globes of the earth, the spandrels of the clock very crisp and bright floral works with gilt gold dots lining the arabic numeral hour dial beneath very fine pierced hour and minute hands; Jacob Diehl, Reading" is painted at the center of the dial. The broken arch hood curls in unusual"blank" rosettes. These flanked by fluted pilasters supporting the replaced finials over a projecting crown molding. The glass pane is fully original, still retaining the wavy character cherished in period glass, framed carefully in a through-tenon mortised door swinging on original pinned hinges. The sides of the hood are absent of glass, the tiny dovetails joining the corner exposed along the front edge. T

An antique Tallcase Clock from English Clockmaker Samuel Deacon. Circa 1790. We are pleased to present this antique Tallcase Clock for your consideration. It comes from the well known clockmaker Samuel Deacon(1746-1816) of Barton in the Beans. A small hamlet in Leicestershire, England. The Clock comes with two heavy weights(not pictured) and pendulum. The movement appears to have a missing piece at the top(a bell? and the hands to the Clock are missing. As this looks like a project piece, we've adjusted the price accordingly. The cabinet measures 78-1/2 inches high. 20 inches wide, and is 9-1/2 inches deep. The face is marked Deacon and Barton. We have not found any other identifying marks on the Clock. Physically. The Clock cabinet appears to have been well taken care of and is in good shape with no significant damage or issues. The ... moreglass is intact and the front door works properly. The face shows the greatest wear with paint that is extensively crazed, although the graphics are substantially intact. Overall, we rate the cabinet condition as very good, with the face in fair to good condition. The way the movement sits within the cabinet makes us wonder if this is the original cabinet for the movement. Looking at picture 4. The wooden cross member that the movement sits on does not look original. We also note the carved inset on the back surface which provides clearance for the guide for the pendulum. From a local estate, we do not have any more details about the history of this piece. With unknown pieces missing from the movement, we have not attempted to get the Clock to operate, and it is offered in as-is condition. You'll receive the Clock pieces shown in the pictures, plus the two weights which are not pictured. This is a nice looking antique Tallclock with a movement from the notable Samuel Deacon of Barton in the Beans. It would be a great restoration and project piece. And addition to any collection! An antique Tallcase Clock from Scottish Clockmaker John Gartly. Circa 1799. We are pleased to present this antique Tallcase Clock for your consideration. It comes from the Scottish clockmaker John Gartly and dates to approximately 1799. Constructed from Mahogany. This beautiful Clock features an ornate brass face with gilt floral scrollwork. It is complete with two(2) weights, pendulum, a handle type key, plus original shipping paperwork documenting a voyage made by the Clock between Glasgow and Los Angeles in 1936. The handsome George III style cabinet measures 80 inches high. 21 inches wide, and is 11 inches deep. The face is marked John Gartly and Aberdeen. We have not found any other identifying marks on the Clock. Physically. The Clock is in pretty decent shape with assorted minor issues. There is a crack on the front of the base. The ... morelock works, but is a newer piece. The glass over the face has the ripples and imperfections that would be expected on the original. The movement shows accumulated dust, but appears to be free of any damage. Some of the trim is damaged, with some small pieces missing. Please review the pictures to get a good understanding of its current condition. Overall, we rate the physical condition as good to very good. While we were taking the pictures. We attached the weights and did a quick evaluation of the operation. The Clock wanted to free run with the weights attached, but dampened out when the pendulum was attached. Our testing surface wasn't level, so we limited our evaluation to this quick test. The handle style key turned both of the gears and lifted the weights. We believe the Clock will need cleaning and oiling, at a minimum, to restore full operation, and it is offered in as-is condition. This is a charming Antique Tallclock. Antique Mission style tallcase grandfather clock, pendulum and weight driven
DESCRIPTION Selling this unusual Mission style tallcase or grandfather clock. This clock was purchased by my father about 40 years ago as a Pequegnat Leader variant. But it is not. I have found out from fellow clock collectors that about 8 or 9 clocks of this exact style are known to exist in Eastern Canada and possibly the North-Eastern US. Their exact origin is not known. They are usually found with New Haven works, but are not listed in the New Haven catalogues. In the late 1800's and early 1900's, some companies did have"in house" designs of clocks made up by furniture manufacturers, and mated them with works from other makers, and this may well be an example of these. For instance, a company like Sears or Eaton's could have done that and sold the clocks as their own unique style. This particular example is in very ... moregood condition. And has Pequegnat long case works instead of New Haven works. The case is an attractive fumed oak type finish. The door is leaded glass with a functioning lock. The clock usually runs well, but not in my office at present as the floor is not level. There is a spot on the left side of the case where the veneer is lifting somewhat, and there are some minor scuffs on the edges and the bottom edge(see photos) The brass numbers have an attractive patina, as do the weights. I have included a number of pictures of the clock. From different angles. Please do study the pictures in the auction description. As they form an important part of the description. The flaws: 1. There is some lifting of the veneer on the side of the case. 2. There is some minor scuffing of edges of the clock case in places-see photos. 3. It does not have an upper back panel on it. And has a movement attributed to the London clock maker, William Jackson. Movement resides behind glass and may be accessed from sides and rear, and the mechanism was not secured snugly against the front face of the cabinet at time of photography. Rare design. Truly unique. Gorgeous 250 yr. long case clock crafted by registered London clockmaker Peter Pohlmann. Measures 94" x 22" x 9.5" at it's widest parts. Made of flame mahogany with 8 day movement and brass workings. Swan neck pediment, 12" hand painted dial in floral pattern with birds in shades of pink, subsidiary second and date dials. This auction is for an antique English tall case movement/dial. I acquired this years ago when buying a collection of antique clocks. I am clearing out my storage. Dials measurements are 16.5" High. 12" wide, 12" high to the start of the arch. The arch starts 1" in on each side, arch is 4.5" high. Dial is brass with hand engraving. Reads William Wichcord Ingatestone. I think I looked it up years ago and he was listed as a late 18th century maker. Has time. Seconds, calendar, and strike shut off complications in sundials. 4 dials, 5 hands. Hands on the main dial are original. Old repair on the end of the minute. hands on the three sundials look to be replaced. But I am not an English clock expert. Dial has a small crease that runs from the numeral 3 edge up to the numeral 1. Where the post attaches to the dial. Could ... morebe straightened. Movement is robust brass. Complete. Looks to be cleaned in the not too distant past. Two pulleys on the gut cables. No case. No pendulum, no weights. Just what you see here. Great looking grandfather clock to add to your home or office charm. Just picked it up at an auction. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. The clock probably dates to the late 1800s to early 1900s. This grandfather clock was made by an unknown clock maker for the Bailey Banks and Biddle jewelry store in Philadelphia. PA. The clock has a great federal style to the mahogany case. The clock has been running since we picked it up at auction. It also strikes the hours on the hour and strikes once at the half hour. Has a very deep gong sound to it. So. Selling the clock in running, and striking condition. This clock could is called a grandfather or tall case clock. As it is more than ... more75" tall. The dark stained mahogany case on this clock looks very good. No major chips. Splits, or missing pieces that I can ascertain. This clock has a lot of fireplace or pipe smoke soot on the finish. I have wiped it down twice now, but will still need a good cleaning by the owner, so that the original wood luster can truly be appreciated. You could barely see the graining of the wood when I first started wiping it down! The case has a great design on the front of the case at the corner angles. And check out the great hood on this clock! The scrolling and even the wood finials are in place and all look proper to the clock. Amazingly these very delicate looking wood finials have made it thru intact over all these years. The metal locking latches are in place on the back of the case as well. Some drip of something from the top on the right side of the hood. See pic. Did not attempt to remove it, again we just wipe the precious items down we find. Antique Oak Tall Case Grandfather Clock H- 88 3/8" W- 20 3/4" D- 10" Up for bid is this antique?English/Scottish Grandfather clock. It is well proportioned and maintains it's original finish. It is about 125- 150 years old and its condition is consistant with it's age. The case is solid and sound except for a small square piece in the lower base that needs gluing next to a piece of molding that has the top edge broken. The clock looks to be mostly complete. But is missing the center finial and hands and has a newer pendulum. It has a winding crank key, door lock and working key to operate it. The Painted dial has a moon phase calendar and beautiful decorated corners. The movement is 8 day time and strike, looks clean and well maintained, but I have not tested it as I don't have the appropriate weights to run it. ... moreA newer seatboard was made as the old one was cracked and crumbling. Antique French Station Morbier Comtoise Repeater Tallcase Grandfather Clock
Up for auction is an approx. 1870's French made Comtoise or Morbier. Morez type tallcase/ long case/ grandfather clock as shown in the pictures. The clock is fully functional. Winds, strikes and repeats(2 minutes after the full hour count) on a large tuned bell as it should. Measurements are approx. 92 x 23 x 10 inches. It appears all original except for the weight strings which have been replaced when we acquired it. The porcelain dial is crack free and undamaged. Both side doors(so often missing) are present. So is the original winding crank. The weights. Which is very unusual feature, are hidden from sight with an removable board(see picture) The clock was serviced/oiled recently and needs nothing for years. It keeps good time. This type of cased clock was used in French railway and police stations. Official buildings and government ... moreoffices. Hence the name'Station Comtoise" We bought this clock many years ago in Waterloo/Belgium while posted there. According to the French dealer this clock was bought by him out of the mayors office in Thiviers, a small commune in southwestern France. We are a non-smoking household with multiple cats.
