Cram became the sole owner two years later and renamed it the George F. Cram Co. The company sold a wide variety of atlases, including the popular Unrivaled Atlas of the World, which was printed continuously from the 1880’s to 1952. In 1921. Cram sold his business to one of his largest customers, E.A. Peterson of the National Map Company. The companies were combined at 32 E. Georgia St. in Indianapolis. The Cram name survived the merger. On March 24, 1928, George F. Cram died at the age of 86. In 1932. The George F. Cram Company began manufacturing globes. In 1936, the company moved again to 730 E. Washington St. That location is currently the Marion County Jail. Loren B. Douthit joined the company in 1937 as a School Sales Field Manager to develop the potential of the school market. Between 1937 and 1966. Cram developed a variety of educational maps and globes including the most usable globe in the classroom, Horizon Ring Globe. It is unusual as it is an oval carriage clock and the crystal is curved and beveled. It is also an alarm clock on bell. It has it's original cylinder escapement. It was just overhauled and bushed in bronze. The escapement has the letters"FR" and"FA" as well as an arrow. When opened"SR" and"FA" are again engraved in the back panel. There is also a lion engraved into the back panel and I assume that this is the maker's mark. The back curved crystal on the little drawer ... morethat opens is slightly chipped and the edges of the corners. Otherwise the clock is in it's good original condition and is uncleaned with it's original patina. Clock face and alarm clock face are porcelain panels with decorative Arabic numerals. Being totally overhauled. The clock works very well! With the handle lying flat, it is 4.5" high and with the decorative curved handle extended, it is 6.25" high, 3.5" wide, and a little over 2.5" deep. It stands on four brass bun feet. You are bidding on this DRESDEN. Antique desk/ Alarm Clock from Germany, in full functioning condition. This piece is also in an EXCELENT cosmetic and functioning condition! Having a windable movement which keeps accurate time. The most special about this clock is off course it's appearance; which is created by the use of marble and lots of brass. The green base and roof come in marble. Making this time piece very heavy for its size. The side pieces and"pillars" come in brass showing a nice patina. The ball on top of the clock is also made of marble with another top on which comes in brass. Definately this clock had to have the appearance of a church/ chapel! In front you find a facated glass window without any scratches. The colours of the marble are SO bright. This beauty is running great. Keeps accurate time and the alarm ... morealso works as it should. The alarm is set by moving the alarm handle to the present time. Then you wind the alarm handle and have to set it on the time you want it to go off. This way it goes off at the chosen time. The dial seems to be made of porcelain and is in an absolute perfect condition There are black metal hands and there is a separate alarm hand(in brass) The dial show Roman numbers; the scales are divided in 60 partitions; one for each minute. On the back is a list of patent date the most recent one 1891. I don't know the maker and I have never opened the back. It has been used and has some wear the the surfaces.
