Inc; 1999) Throughout the ancient world the Egyptians were famous for their scents and perfumes. The country was considered the most suitable for the manufacture of such commodities. As the distillation of alcohol was not known until the fourth century BC the scents were extracted by steeping plants. Flowers or splinters of fragrant wood in oil to obtain essential oil, which would then be added to other oils or fat. The materials were placed in a piece of cloth which was wrung until the last drop of fragrance had been retrieved. Alternatively they were boiled with oil and water and the oil skimmed off. As for the oils. There was a wide choice, the most commonly used being moringa, balanos, castor oil, linseed, sesame, safflower, and, to some extent, almond and olive. According to Theophrastus, who made a thorough study of fragrant substances in an essay entitled concerning odors, balanos was the least viscous and by far the most suitable oil, followed by fresh raw olive oil and almond oil. Not cheap silver electroplate! These are two gorgeous. High quality solid sterling silver earrings. These are high-quality earrings made right here in the USA, crafted to last a lifetime. Measurements: Diameter: 50mm. Weight: 2.74 grams. DETAIL: The ancient Egyptians believed that the skin of their gods was composed of gold. And their bones were thought to be of silver. When silver was introduced into Egypt, it probably was more valuable than gold(silver was rarer and more valuable than gold in many Mesoamerican cultures as well) In surviving inventories of valuables, items of silver were listed above those of gold during the Old Kingdom. Jewelry made of silver was almost always thinner than gold pieces, as indicated by the bracelets of the 4th Dynasty(about 2,500 B.C. When the price of silver finally did fall due to more readily available supplies, for at least another thousand years the price of silver was fixed at half that of gold. Several royal mummies attributable to about 1,000 B.C. were even entombed in solid silver coffins. Around 1.000 B.C. Greek Athenians began producing massive amounts silver from the Laurium mines, and would supply much of the ancient Mediterranean world with its silver for almost 1,000 years. In celebration of this heritage, here is a pair of gorgeous, solid sterling silver designer earrings. I picked these up at a trade show recently as samples for a fraction of their retail value, and am passing the savings. These are very stylish, high-quality earrings produced in the USA from solid sterling silver(not cheap electroplated base metal) I’m not permitted to reveal the name of the fashion label these are intended to carry, but they’re exclusive, high-end earrings. I have only a few pair, so if you like the style, don’t procrastinate, they’ll be gone, and I have no ability to restock them! HIST

The Book of Lilith by Barbara Black Koltuv. Ph.D. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 127 pages. Publisher: Nicolas Hays(1986) ISBN: 9780892540143. The Book of Lilith tells the story of Lilith. Who was really the first woman created by God, and who just happened to have been created before Adam. Her job is to give all the things in the world souls, while Adam's is to create rules and law out of chaos. Unfortunately, Adam likes to have sex with Lilith only in the Adam-on-top position. This leads to, shall we say, problems" The Book of Lilith is alternately funny, serious, surreal, and amazing as Lilith embarks on a Zen journey around the world giving things souls and giving birth to a god. It is more than a little bit deep, and yet very, very entertaining. Lilith’s demonic origins are found in Jewish folklore, her name and personality ultimately derived from a Babylonian-Assyrian demon named Lilit, or Lilu, though Lilith may have had an association with even earlier goddesses. In rabbinic literature Lilith is variously depicted as the mother of Adam’s demonic offspring following his separation from Eve, or as his first wife, who scoffed at him and left him because he insisted on the male-superior sexual position, the so-called“missionary” position. Three angels tried in vain to force her to return to Adam. Ultimately the more docile Eve was created for Adam as a replacement for Lilith. Refusing to couple with Adam. Lilith was said to have bred with demons, producing 100 offspring a day. Lilith appears in J.W. von Goethe’s“Faust” and Dante Gabriel Rosetti’s“Eden Bower” In the twentieth century, Lilith became something of a feminist symbol for her rebellion against patriarchal ways.
