Marcus Aurelius: Meditations(Unabridged) Edited by William Kaufman. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 99 pages. Publisher: Dover Publications. Inc; 1997) ISBN: ... more048629823X. One of the world’s most famous and influential books. Meditations” by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius(121-180 A.D. incorporates the stoic percepts he used to cope with his life as a warrior and administrator of an empire. Ascending to the imperial throne in 161 AD, Aurelius found his reign beset by natural disasters and war. In the wake of these challenges, he set down a series of private reflections, outlining a philosophy of commitment to virtue above pleasure and tranquility above happiness. Reflecting the emperor’s own noble and self-sacrificing code of conduct. Presented here in a specially modernized version of this classic George Long translation. This updated and revised edition is easily accessible to contemporary readers. It not only provides a fascinating glimpse into the mind and personality of a highly principled Roman of the second century, but also offers today’s readers a practical and inspirational guide to the challenges of everyday life. CONDITION: New. Never read. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR SAMPLE PAGES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER. PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. PUBLISHER REVIEW: REVIEW: Marcus Aurelius reigned from 161 AD to 180 AD. And was perhaps the only true philosopher-king in the history of the world. In his“Meditations” a series of notes to himself, he formulated his pantheist Stoic bel

British Found Roman period silver fibula 150 AD
WELCOME For Sale: British Found Roman period silver fibula 150 AD British Found Roman period silver fibula 150 AD In the form of fish. A fibula is an ancient brooch. Technically. The Latin term, fibulae, refers to Roman brooches; however, the term is widely used to refer to brooches from the entire ancient and early medieval world that continue Roman forms. Unlike most modern brooches, fibulae were not only decorative; they originally served a practical function: to fasten clothing, such as cloaks. Fibulae replaced straight pins that were used to fasten clothing in the Neolithic period and the Bronze Age. In turn, fibulae were replaced as clothing fasteners by buttons in the Middle Ages. In ancient Rome and other places where Latin was used, the same word denoted both a brooch and the fibula bone because a popular form for brooches and the ... moreshape of the bone were thought to resemble one another Weight 4.7 g Dimension 36 x 15 mm Excellent condition. An incredible article for connoisseurs and collectors Terms& Conditions All my items are acquired or purchased as authentic! Ancient Anglo-Roman Solid Decorated Bronze Ring Rare 50-150 AD
Ancient Anglo-Roman Solid Decorated Bronze Ring Rare 50-150 AD Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds ... moreand sapphires found their way from the silk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. This very solid and weighty Anglo Roman bronze ring bears a very attractive and symmetrically formed multi-faceted shape all around. It is fully intact and is of excellent condition. It is smooth all around which makes for an incredibly comfortable fit when worn today. A unique fact about this ring is that during the Anglo-Roman period. These types of rings were given as votive offerings to the gods. A dark, natural patina is retained all around with slight turquoise patina and some earthen encrustations which have settled in areas around the ring. Ancient Roman Celtic British Bronze Reclining Panther Bacchus Brooch - 150 AD
An ancient Romano-British bronze reclining panther brooch. Dating to around 150– 200 AD. This reclining pantheress is shown with her head raised and paw reaching up to the mouth. As if to scratch an itch. She wears a banded collar suggesting she is being kept as an exotic pet, three projections run along the underside of the body to indicate teats. The body is ornamented with 14 circular perforations which would likely have contained multi-coloured enamel, remnants of one turquoise piece remains. Original pin still attached. Worn just as much for decoration as garment fastening. Animal fibula are in many ways the most fascinating of ancient brooches, giving a momentary glimpse into the life and thinking of those who wore them. Many of the animals depicted had religious significance; leopards, tigers and panthers were all creatures associated ... morewith the Roman god of wine and ecstasy, Bacchus. Many animal brooches are also generally flat. But the panthers belong to a distinctive and rare group which are more three dimensional. With its colourful enamel ornamentation, this vibrant and exotic piece would have glittered in the soft candle light of the Roman triclinium(dining hall) Please note: The bronze mount pictured in this images is the property of the photography studio and is not included in the sale price. Length: 1 ½ inches. Condition: Excellent. Provenance: Ex. British private collection. Acquired 1980’s. CLEARANCE SALE! Ancient Roman Bronze Ring Portrait Female Bust Rare 50-150 AD
Ancient Roman Bronze Ring Carved Portrait of Female Bust Rare 50-150 AD Apart from gold and other precious metals. Diamonds, ... moreemeralds and sapphires found their way from the silk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. This stunning ancient Roman bronze ring bears the carved portrait of a female bust. Its band is thick and rounded. Bearing a beautiful symmetrical form as it expands into its angular shoulders. Taking centre positioning is its rounded, raised bezel which surface boasts the lovely carving of a female bust. Some of its finer details may have been smoothened down over the years of being buried under intense soil pressure and harsh mineral content for almost 2,000 years. A dark natural patina is retained all over with earthen and turquoise encrustations in areas. In ancient Roman times. Such carved portraits could portray a beloved family member or even the important figures of an era such as portraits of rulers or important dignitaries; portrait rings were often gifts from royalty to their subjects. Such idealization owes much to the Hellenistic style, which portrayed even monsters and slain figures from scenes of Greek(or Roman) mythology in sublime excellence of form. It’s hard to express the joy of taking home such a rare heirloom to treasure. This a
