British Found Roman period silver fibula 150 AD
WELCOME For Sale: British Found Roman period silver fibula 150 AD British Found Roman period silver fibula 150 AD In the form of fish. A fibula is an ancient brooch. Technically. The Latin term, fibulae, refers to Roman brooches; however, the term is widely used to refer to brooches from the entire ancient and early medieval world that continue Roman forms. Unlike most modern brooches, fibulae were not only decorative; they originally served a practical function: to fasten clothing, such as cloaks. Fibulae replaced straight pins that were used to fasten clothing in the Neolithic period and the Bronze Age. In turn, fibulae were replaced as clothing fasteners by buttons in the Middle Ages. In ancient Rome and other places where Latin was used, the same word denoted both a brooch and the fibula bone because a popular form for brooches and the ... moreshape of the bone were thought to resemble one another Weight 4.7 g Dimension 36 x 15 mm Excellent condition. An incredible article for connoisseurs and collectors Terms& Conditions All my items are acquired or purchased as authentic! The ring is original and authentic and come with a 100% money back guarantee from us as to their authenticity! MEASURES: High max- 22mm. Inland diameter- 18mm WEIGHT- 4.53 grams About This Ring This highly impressive and boldly handsome ancient Roman bronze ring is indeed a very rare find to say the least! It is incredibly large and weighty. And boasts a smooth textured surface all around. Its band starts off thick and expands even more at the shoulders, where a series of alternating decorative linear carvings are made. Right before the bezel, the perimeter of its base is decorated with a series of fine linear etchings. Its bezel is very thick, large and rounded and bears the symbol“X” which is carved deeply into the surface. ... moreThis symbol represents the Roman numeral 10, which is symbolic of the Legio X Equestris(Roman Tenth Legion) Across the middle of the bezel and through the‘X’ symbol, a row of deep linear etched filled carvings is made; bordered by parallel lines on each side, giving this bezel’s surface a shield-like impression. A rich layer of dark-natural patina is retained all over this ring, revealing its original bright golden hued bronze which may be enhanced if cleaned further. Legio X Equestris. Latin: Tenth legion'mounted' Equestris) a Roman legion active from 61 BC to after 31 BC, was levied by Julius Caesar in 61 BC when he was the Governor of Hispania Ulterior. Legio X was famous in its day and throughout history, because of its portrayal in Caesar's Commentaries and the prominent role the Tenth played in his Gallic campaigns. Its soldiers were discharged in 45 BC. Its remnants were reconstituted, fought for Mark Antony and O

Ancient Egyptian Glass Mosaic Inlay Ptolemaic / Early Roman Period - 100 BC
An attractive and decorative ancient Egyptian glass inlay. Dating to the Ptolemaic to early Roman period 100 B.C. 100 A.D. A wonderful glass inlay. Depicting the scales of a fish in motion, coloured in beautiful polychrome red, yellow and brown, with the dorsal fin a distinctive dark blue. Tiles of this form have been found exclusively in Egypt. And are widely renowned as being of the highest quality, building on a glass making industry that was already centuries old. The technique involved a series of various coloured glass strips and canes being carefully moulded into their required shapes before the construction was then placed into a kiln, whereupon the individual elements were fused with the backing glass to become one subject. This technique was a painstakingly labour intensive process requiring a high level of skill and knowledge. ... moreIt flourished over only a brief period of time before the mastery was lost. It survives only in these vibrant artefacts; beautiful vestiges of an art form that was as well regarded in its own time as it is in the modern day. Height: 2 5/8 inches. Condition: Very good. Unrestored. Provenance: Ex. private collection. Please note; this is a genuine ancient Egyptian glass inlay. Offered for sale without reserve to promote our extensive inventory of ancient coins and antiquities. Authenticity All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be Authentic as described.
