Ancient Very Large Greco-Roman Infinity Bronze Ring 100-200 AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About the Roman Rings Romans liked to wear big rings which drew attention and revealed the status of the wearer. A gold ring often contained a huge gemstone or Roman glass which was generally worn by the Senators and the bureaucrats. The common people referred as the Plebeians were allowed to wear only rings made of iron. However. Some Plebeians were awarded the right to wear the golden rings for their bravery or special service to the state. But gradually such stringent rules were relaxed during the reign of Justinian I. Women of ancient Rome were more inclined to wear multiple rings of varied materials and designs on their hands without the constraints of social classes. About This Ring"But Nature flies from the infinite. For the infinite is unending or imperfect, and Nature ever seeks an end. Aristotle, 384-322 BC This incredibly large and symbolic ancient Greco-Roman ring is made of bronze and is of perfectly smooth and wearable condition. Its band is kept simple in style

But Nature flies from the infinite. For the infinite is unending or imperfect and Nature ever seeks an end. Is perfectly smooth all around, bearing a lovely symmetrical form, making for a comfortable fit today. Its band bears an intentional cut in the middle of its base. This would have been done by its ancient patron as a common way of resizing their rings. The surface of its large, almond-shaped bezel is engraved deeply with the most well-preserved knot-like pattern which the ancient Greeks(and in turn the Romans) used to symbolize the ancient continuum hypothesis of“infinity” This ring has remained absolutely captivating from its decorative carvings as clear as the day it was made, to the rich historical symbolism it holds. It makes for a very comfortable fit, and is bound to spark the interest and curiosity of its admirers when worn today. In Ancient Greece. Visit our store: RARE ANCIENT GRECO ROMAN MOTHER CHILD TERRACOTTA STATUE ISRAEL HOLY LAND Offered here is a nice example of a small. Ancient terracotta statue of a mother and child. This piece is probably from the Hellenistic or Roman eras but beyond that we cannot give a firm date. The representation of mother and child was a common motif in the ancient Mediterranean world culminating in the most famous; that of the Madonna and Child. It is possible but unlikely that they do represent the Holy Virgin and the infant Jesus. It is a hollow body statue showing a good deal of wear. The face of the child ... moreis no longer distinct while that of the mother is present but worn. There is some scratching and chipping on the body of the statue and one or two small cracks that go through to the hollow interior. The dirt adhering to it is from its excavation site in Israel. This statue was purchased in the 1960s from an Israeli gallery by the husband of the woman who sold it to us. It came with a certificate of authenticity that she has misplaced(she is still looking for it and we hope she finds it! The homemade wooden base was made by them for display. It would make a nice addition to any collection. Measures approximately: 5" height) x 2" diameter across the handles) Shipping insurance is included. QUESTIONS? Greco-Roman Tubular Sculpture of a Deity
Origin: Sinai. Egypt Circa: 200 BC to 200 AD Dimensions: 6" 15.2cm) high x 2" 5.1cm) wide Collection: Classical Medium: Terracotta Since the dawn of time. Man has offered votives to win the benign favor of his gods. Sometimes these were perishable gifts of food, or wine, or livestock. At other times they were figures of stone, metal or clay-votives of a more enduring nature. The art of the sculpted clay votive reached its peak in the Hellenistic age, when the artistic influence of Classical Greece spread throughout the Mediterranean and Near East. In and around Alexandria-where the Olympian gods were mixed freely with those of ancient Egypt-the temples were filled to overflowing with lively depictions of deities, royalty, actors and ordinary folk. As gifts to the gods, these could not be destroyed, so periodically the votives were ... moreburied in pits to make room for new offerings. When we look upon their features today-sometimes agelessly beautiful, divine, regal or aloof, sometimes comic or infinitely wise-we come face to face with the human past. P.3674)
