Roman Republic - Bronze Romulus & Remus Statue
This is a bronze Romulus& Remus statue depicting the pair suckling a She-Wolf. Probably a 20th Century manufacture of an older piece. Measures about 55mm high by about 78mm long by about 35mm wide at it's longest points. Mounted on a marble( base that's about 68mm long by about 35mm wide and about 10mm high. The first measurements include the base in it's height. The bronze appears to be hollow judging by the casting holes at each end. A tiny trace of rust on the bottom screw near the boys on the Rev. The screw holds the bronze part to the stone base. Although the bronze does swivel somewhat as the screw is not fastened all the way. Purchased many years ago from Jeff Young, a coin and artifact dealer, located in the Netherlands. Should be a great addition to any collection of Ancient Roman material. This auction is for this antique bronze statuette. Depicting most surely the Goddess Athena/Minerva. I bought this figurine some time ago from a flea market in Rome. It certainly looks antique, although I am no expert and I do not know if it is indeed a original classic or if it was made in more recent times. It looks Etruscan although it could be Roman too. In any case, it is a very curious looking and unique piece that would be a perfect addition to your collection, or just that unique decoration piece. For the signs of age it shows it seems antique, at least from my limited amateur knowledge in the matter. And who knows. It might be worth thousands of dollars!
