New York Merchandising Company was a importer and seller in Christmas lights in the 1930s. 40s and 50s. They sold their sets under the Reliance and Renown brand names. The Reliance company distributed the all of the XL named light sets. Although the Reliance name is seldom found on the boxes. The"XL" nomenclature referred to the lamps as having"Xtra Life" XL lamps were used by other manufacturers as well, and sold under differing brand names. DESCRIPTION I purchased this set from an estate sale. Just as seen here in the pictures. After buying and collecting Christmas light sets for 20+ years, I have never seen this 6-sided C6 15 Volt Japan bulb. I looked through my surplus bulbs and could not find a replacement bulb. This came with 7 of these bulbs and a C6 Mazda bulb to replace the missing bulb. One of the 7 is burned out and as you can see, it is a shunted XL type bulb where the rest remained lit. It has"MAZDA LAMPS" on the box lid and the inside box. This is a 1930's ... moreClemCo set with a"CLEMCO" style marked plug using MAZDA lamps. Bakelite sockets with clips and cloth covered wire. It is Catalog No. 707. Three spare MAZDA bulbs are included with some paint loss or browning. The set operates in parallel. Which means when one bulb burns out or becomes loose, the rest stay lit. Since these C7 MAZDA bulbs are so hard to find in good shape, a dimmer device would save these bulbs a lot longer and still give you enough light. This string is in Very Good Condition. The string is original. It works and all the bulbs light. The bulbs are probably not all original to the set. But are MAZDA lamps. The bulbs have slight paint chipping, with the orange one being the worst. There is no evidence of any repairs to the string. Each socket and the plug is bakelite black. There are coppercolored metal clips on 5 of the 7 for attaching the sockets to the tree. The add-on style plug and the plug on the other end are marked"CLEMCO" There is no"UL" tag on the cord. The cloth covered cord is soft and flexible. The wiring was inspected, and it is electronically safe for you to use this set for decorating. The box is in Very Good Condi

Lot of 4 Vintage Figural Christmas Light Bulbs - Frog, Fruit, Lantern & Star
This lot consists of 4 vintage figural Christmas light bulbs: a star. Some sort of fruit, a cute frog and a Japanese lantern. They range in size from about 1.5" up to 3" in greatest dimensions, excluding the threaded bases. I believe that the three glass bulbs are all hand-painted. The largest bulb, the tapered Japanese lantern, has a candelabra(C7) base. It did not light when I tested it. The three smaller bulbs have the slightly smaller(C6) bases typical of Christmas bulbs from this period. When I tested them, the star bulb lit up and the other two did not. The star is made of some sort of plastic material, possibly celluloid or Bakelite. The frog and the fruit show some paint loss, as seen in the photographs. Bend the two wires up the two sides of the outside of the base. Push bulb and base back into socket aligning the base wires to the socket connections.

Set of 6 vintage and very clean C6 Christmas Light Bulbs all tested and all functional as seen. Set includes 3 of the very early Mazda Detector Bulbs. These were the Bulbs that when burned out would emit a soft Amber glow so one could identify which Bulb was burned out in the String without the rest of the String going out. On the underside of the Bulb is written"Detector Mazda USA" All three are super clean with just a couple light Specks seen when lit. Also included are 3 of the XL Pat Bulbs. This string and bulbs came from an estate sale in a box of odd Christmas lighting items. The string is an 8 socket C-6 size and not marked with a maker's name. It works great and is in good condition. The bulbs appear to be very old and show their age. There are six round ones 1" in diameter. 4 round ones 1/2" in diameter, and 1 well worn green flame swirl 1" in diameter.
