It has a total length of 5” The“bulb” is 3 ½” long and a maximum diameter of 1 ½” It appears that this has a piece attached to it that was not originally there. It is threaded and it is screwed in. 1900s Banko Ware Elephant Teapot w Rider Finial Antique Japan Marked
Beautiful hand painted elephant Banko-Ware teapot. This elephant has a bright covered blanket with hand enameled flowers and seated atop of that is the finial rider. The teapot measures 8 inches in length and has a height of 6 1/2 inches. The inside rim is good and I find no chips. The trunk does show a separation line about 3/4 inches in from the end of his trunk running an inch down the spout. There are some water or tea lines evident in the photos on his front leg area and lower tusk area. Gold highlights on the horn. Trunk end, eyes and tusks. Neat old piece. Thank you. cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! This is a beautiful cast metal eagle. This is a finial/arhitectural piece that dates to the late 1800's/early 1900's. The piece stands approximately 18.75" high. The base of this is approximately 5.5" square. Finely detailed the wings and head have feathers that look real. The talons are wrapped around what looks like a rock. Each talon has multiple lines giving it life like qualities as well. The front of the eagle has a finely feather detailed chest with a well defined beak and eyes. This exotic teapot has 8 curved panels to the body and lid. Decorated with repousse scrollwork. It sits on four acanthus leaf feet. And the handle also has an acanthus leaf motif, with two intact bone or horn insulators. The rare finial is a three dimensional gesturing Mongolian figure. Sitting cross-legged side-saddle, complete with headgear. His shirt. Possibly mail, is decorated with raised crosses. The detail is fabulous. To the underside is the maker’s mark“JAMES DIXON& SONS” used from 1835 to 1851. As well as some numbers whose significance is lost on us. Please see photos. FINE, SILVER INLAID BRONZE CHINESE ANTIQUE INCENSE BURNER, FU DOG FINIAL
This finely cast piece measures 5 and 1/2 inches high to the top of the Fu Dog. As you can see from the pictures. There is a simple, clean design inlaid motif which I have pictured. What is striking about this piece is its clean lines and preciseness. The handles are area a sharp ninety degree angle. There are no mold seams or tooling anywhree on the incenser. I am not sure of the age, but it is at lease 19th century, and may possibly be older. This is coming from an estate from which I will be selling several other nice Asian antiques.

Vintage Red Leather Boston Fireman Helmet with Large Brass Dragon Finial
1850's Red Leather Fireman Helmet. To the best of my knowledge would be classed as a Gratacap Co product. 32 combs design. Gratacap was later sold out in 1869 to the more famed Cairns Brothers Co. Many years ago I received this helmet from my great uncle George McDonalds estate. Who in turn received the helmet from his ancestor George McDonald. I did research on the helmet and its owner and will include any and all paperwork on what I have found. Some of the paperwork describes the Boston Mattapan firehouse location, confirming George McDonalds position in the company as Assist. Foreman. Included with the above pictures is a 1857 newspaper remnant found in the inside helmet lining which was in keeping with what was typical in the day to line the inside crown with paper. Fabric liner is intact. Front shield finial is a beautiful large ... morebrass dragon.
