This is a wonderful empire style mahogany flame finial lady’s vanity with tapered fluted legs and two drawers that dates from the 1920s ... moreera. It has two dovetail drawers with the round mahogany knobs still intact. Tapered and fluted front legs, an H cross-stretcher, and solid mahogany top that has been re-sprayed in our cabinet shop to remove the nicks and dings and to renew the gorgeous grains in the mahogany used. The top is a fluted column ending in a flame finial top, with the original brass threaded rods that hold the molded swivel frame in place, so the mirror can be adjusted up and down. The overall size is 34 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 30 inches high. It is 54 inches high to the top of the mirror. The size of the mirror itself is 27 inches wide by 23 inches high. It’s finished in a medium reddish-brown stain and the mirror has some really charming age and wear marks to it. The body is ornately decorated with pierced work and designs, suitable for holding incense, potpourri, etc, though it would be equally lovely as a more general purpose container. The underside of the piece is stamped 800 for 800 purity. And the shape of the stamp leads us to believe that the piece was brought into Italy, but we do not believe it was made there. It's likely this piece is of Indian origin, and it may be a higher silver quality than the later stamp indicates. This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are no splits. No breaks, no chips, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, ... moreno monogram removals, and no repairs. This piece stands 4 1/4 inches tall. cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! The bolt that runs through the center is bent and first part has a dent in it the next one is a bit damaged also. I think it can all be straightened out a new bolt should also be used. Bottom cast looks to have been painted. I got the bolt loose with no extra damage and this will be shipped dissembled in a medium flat rate box for $12.35

This unique vintage stove finial measures 8 ¾ inches high. 10 inches in diameter at the center, 3 ¾ inches at diameter base, round top measures 2 ¾ inches, and 6 inches between top of two handles. Unmarked. Fine condition. No cracks or chips. Minor wear on nickel plating. Age unknown. Note the ornate screws which holds the finial together. The handles attach separately through four slots. Finial can be opened to find a bolt inside which I think would attach finial to a swing top, etc. Heavy- weighs about 2 ½ pounds. The plating is in great condition, bright and shiny without any bends or breaks. What makes this piece so outstanding is the wonderful finial on top of a butterfly in exceptional detail that only the Victorian silversmiths seemed to take pride in doing. Wonderful mid 19th century solid wood finial. This is a remarkable piece of architectural salvage. This phenomenal piece came from MI. I bought it from another antique dealer in NYC. In the spring of 2011. I was using this as a decor piece in our home. A collection of finials we had displayed on top of our entertainment center. Needless to say the decor has/is being changed. Vegetal fibers, Approximate Age, second half 20th Century, Dimensions, 14 inches x 5.75 inches, Overall Condition, Good. Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents. And have been treasured by several owners.  Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage. This a portrait mask known as Kpan or Mblo Portrait mask coming from the Baule Ivory Coast(Cote dâIvoire) This mask probably falls into a special grouping known as âportrait masksâ. Kpan or Mblo. They are said to portray an honored person of the village who is celebrated during a ceremonial dance known as âMbloâ. It is an aesthetic performance in which this beautifully carved mask would be worn with a multicolored costume and danced in the most graceful manner by either the person it represents or a relative. The costume would have been attached to the mask by cords that was threaded through the holes at the back of the mask. These masks are danced to entertain during days that the Baule do not work and they will also appear to honor important visitors to the village. This classic mask recalls the artistry of the Baule artists of the past. The refined and finally carved face may be similar to the person for whom the mask was originally carved to represent. Click picture to enlarge click picture to enlarge Description Wonderful antique Reed& Barton silver plate covered butter dish with Victorian period chased design and a wonderful figural finial on the lid. It is even more special because it simply reads" Mother" in lieu of any monogram. Measures about 7 3/8" to the handle edges and approximately 6" tall. Base. Insert and lid. No knife. Base has the Reed& Barton name and a design patent date of Jan. 5. 1869. Condition: Nice and shiny with lovely patina from age. Presents beautifully. There is some wear to the plating near the center hole of the insert/tray. Some pitting on the inside bottom area of the base bowl, and some wear to the plating on the underside bottom and the insides ... moreof the legs/feet. On the side wall of the base bowl, I see a faint squiggly scratch about 1 1/4" long. Otherwise, just expect normal light fine surfaces scratches from polishing over the years and normal use. Victorian Acorn Finial Cast Iron Coat Hook Bid Is Per Hook. Buy One Or Multiples Original Mounting Screws Included We have a quantity of these hooks as seen. All in nice condition. A few have a hint of rust, nothing detracting or damaging. These have varying amounts of copper/brass wash highlights left on them, almost like a mild"Japanned" finish. Most of this is near the wall mount, where hook wasn't constantly rubbed by clothing. If you want more than one, I will do my best to pick ones for you with similar finish, although they all basically match. These are probably turn of the 19th/20th century; so the finish variation is good honest age wear. I believe these originally came from a schoolhouse. Where they would have been mounted on a board in rows for the children. To be safe. I will say you may get some paint speckles, ... morenothing major. You will receive(2) Original Mounting Wood Screws with each hook. These have matching age patina and will make your installed hook look like it has been in place for 100 years. As seen in the last 2 photos. These hooks and original mounting wood screws came to me in a old plaster patch box. It appears to me that the hooks were removed during a renovation and were dropped along with their mounting screws into this box, where they have resided for probably 60+ years.
