HUGE 1700s PORCELAIN SOUP TUREEN WITH LEMON FINIAL
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. HUGE 1700s PORCELAIN SOUP TUREEN WITH LEMON FINIAL Presented is a great quality. Large porcelain soup tureen with lemon finial. This piece is made with white, glazed porcelain. There are beautifully detailed yellow and purple flower bouquets hand painted on the lid and both the outside and inside of the tureen. The borders of the cover and dish are decorated with a woven rattan pattern impressed in the porcelain. The handles are in the form of applied green vines with branches of pretty, raised porcelain flowers. The decorative finial is in the form of a sliced lemon with a sliver of peel. This tureen was made in the 1700s. The tureen and lid are unmarked. This item has the same style and quality of covered dishes as that of the German porcelain maker Meissen. We do not ... moreknow the maker. Probably German and possibly Meissen. The lid is in excellent condition. Considering its age. There has been a small repair to the lemon's green branch and a little green overpainting to just the stem. This is shown in the 4th-to-last photo, and is practically undetectable. The lid has no breaks, no cracks, no chips and no other repairs. The condition of the dish itself is as follows. It has had a professional repair. The repair is to a break/crack running almost completely lengthwise through the dish, and to a break. We have pointed this out in the 3rd-to-last photo. The repair to the body of the tureen is well done, and the tureen still rings. The left handle was so nicely repaired and repainted that it is very very difficult to see. These are shown in the last two photos. The porcelain flowers are in fabulous condition, with minimal losses. There are no other breaks, no other cracks, no chips and no other repairs. The lidded soup tureen measures about 13 1/4 inches by 8 3/4 inches and about 9 1/4 inches tall. Good luck and bid with confidence. Wood (oak?) finial for furniture, post, architectural salvage
This is a great piece of decoration that will make that added finishing touch on a piece of furniture or post. Maybe you need one like this to match another. Whatever the case. I think this finial is oak(but I am no expert) This piece stands 6 1/2" high and is 3 3/4" in diameter at the base. The piece overall is in great shape, just one rough spot around the widest part(see pics) Nice pecan color.

Early 20's Tin Finial or Cupola Topper. 3D design - lightning rod top
This good looking old architectural piece is another finial or cupola topper. It is made of tin that was soldiered together and then attached to the peak of some type of finial. Likely this was once part of the peak on the tower of some old Victorian home or fastened to an old barn cupola. The tin is old and I have the feeling it is getting too brittle to last much longer outside in the elements. But could serve admirably in some indoor display. A rare old tin finial that likely dates to the roaring 20's. Check out my!

I am not sure if this is a finial or not but that is all I can deduct it must be- it is a bird/ stork/ heron with a screw bottom and made of cast iron I think it stands 3" tall and at its widest point is 2 3/4" the paint has some minor wear to it but over all it is very nice and great details.

Offered is a Chinese cloisonne censer. With a fo o dog finial. Brass rim, and dragons chasing a f laming pearl. The original patina is superb. There has been some restoration of the blue and green enamel. Where it had been dented. The feet may be co pper. Si nce they are light in weight. This is from the collection of Tom Salter. A university art teacher who travelled around the world. The cens er is 17 cm tall with the lid. And 12 cm wide. And weighs 328 grams. ANTIQUE EDWARD FARMER SANG de BOEUF OX BLOOD STERLING MT INKWELL JADE FINIAL WOW
This is a beautiful inkwell put together and marked by Edward I Farmer. New York. Apparently Farmer had a shop in New York in the 1920's and 30's and specialized in creating lamps and other items out of antique Chinese porcelain and jade. I had never heard of him until I bought this inkwell last weekend at an estate sale. I believe the porcelain part of this beauty is what is know as Sang de Boeuf for it's ox blood color. This is mounted with a gilt Sterling base and lid. The Sterling seems like it has lacquer on it and should be cleaned and polished to look better. The finial of the piece is in jade and is 2 figures standing on maybe a lily pad. The original glass insert for the inkwell is still inside and not damaged. Shape of the eyes, the asymmetrical horns on the squared-off headdress, the kneeling prayer position and the animal ears are characteristics of Burmese art The patina would also suggest southeast Asia, specifically the Shan area(where Burma, Thailand, and China meet and where the deer is an important symbol) This figure appears to be wearing a mask. c1879 CAST IRON finial HARTFORD CT CAPITAL building 93"
HUGE cast iron Finial from the Connecticut State Capitol building. A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 gothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- ... morethe building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! These finials were rebuilt as the fragile nature of the iron made them easy to break or crack. A professional welder rebulit three pieces. The listing shows all three pieces- your bid is for ONE(1) Winning bidder has choice on which one. The taller two measure 93" tall and are 20" wide across the top and 16" wide at the bottom. Under lid edges and under pedestal base are some dark ash deposits from the original firing process- these are under glaze. I generally do nothing more than wipe the piece with a soft cloth when looking for signatures or wear. No soap or water involved, as there is a good chance of the piece developing verdigris if I don't get it completely dry. I will mention what the quality of the piece seems like to me. I.e. if it has a good feel to it, no obvious signs of cheap manufacturing, good materials, etc, I will say it is higher or better ... morequality, average stuff where the piece is still well made but the materials are more on the cheap side will be listed as good quality and if it is a cheapie I will mention this in the description. I try not to use a flash on my pictures and get as close as possible. Insuring( hopefully) no nasty surprises for the buyer. But that combined with my poor photography skills tends to magnify any small flaws and or light and camera reflections. So please keep that in mind when looking at the pictures. Offered for auction is this heavy Cast Iron Finial for a Fence or Post. It stands about 5" tall. It is quite heavy- weighs about 1 1/2 lb. Shape looks like a flower bud before it opens. Antique Cast Iron newel post or fence post topper? I'm not sure how this was used. It is free standing, but it might fit into a hollow round pipe, or slip over a hollow square post, depending on size. It is well made, solid, heavy for its size, and has nice details, along with some rust. It is approx. 5 3/4" tall, 4 3/8" square, across the top, and 3 3/4" square across the base. The square opening under, is 2 11/16" approx.

It has a figural dragon finial and rests on fancy feet decorated with repousse flowers. It has continental hallmarks on the bottom. Along with a three letter monogram. It does have the key which operates the lock. It dates from the 19th Century and measures approximately 5 + 5/8 inches tall to the top of the finial by 6 + ½ inches across the feet by 5 inches front to back across the feet.
