This horse ... morehead is more rare because it was cast from one mold. This process was known as being"Cast in the round" from one piece. Most casting found for sale are made from two molds. One for the left side and the other for the right side of the horses head. Once the molds have been cast they are joined which of course leaves a visible seam which over time can become loose and begin to separate. The horse head is heavy weighing approximately 8 pounds. It is difficult to get an exact weight since part of the old hitching post is still connected but can be removed if you prefer. The head measures 8" from the tip of the nose to the back of the horses mane. 9" tall, 3" wide, and the opening for the post is 2" in diameter. The total length including the pole is 36-1/2" The original tie up ring is still there but due to age it has come apart on one side. This is a truly wonderful and authentic piece that you would be proud to display. Thank you for looking and please email if you need additional information. antique, rare and unusual IRON HITCHING POST 60 1/2" TALL
This old post is a dandy. Most of the post you see have a horse head on them. That's what makes this one piece iron post different. I would date this to the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The bottom part would have been put in the ground with cement poured around it so that whatever you hitched to it had no chance of getting away. It stands 60 1/2" tall and if I were to guess weighs between 100 to 125 lbs. Because of size and weight would have to be picked up. Unless other arrangements are made. A storage barn of an antiques dealer that passed about 10 years ago. She specialized in early primitives and American folk art and boy-oh-boy you do not want to miss this week. I'm asking if he has a maker's mark in my title because he has a relief diamond on both sides behind his eye- it looks to have dots inside of it too. I couldn't find another exactly like this so was wondering if indeed it's a mark of the maker? He has a beautiful white finish that is shabby, chippy and worn all over, and you can see the darkdark patina of the iron mixed with old dark surface rust in many spots- that's heaven to me! His hitching loop is not painted, so you just see the dark dark iron that actually looks black in some lights- looking closer- it could have been painted black on the ring at one time- just from the peeks of the black. The ring is actually not a ring, it's more of a rounded V shape, and it's open at the top- not soldered all the way- I don't know if you could remove it if you wanted to(maybe with some crafty wiggling, I don't know) but I wanted you to know that it's open in his mouth- I can see when I peek inside and it's about 1/4" of space o

Each Post is signed with"J C" by one of the holes and"B" by another hole. Each Post measures approximately 9 1/4" tall to the top of the point. The ring measures approximately 2 5/8" across. This is the biggest and nicest one of these old hitching rings that I have ever come across. It is a magnificent big one. The ring is a hair over 7" in diameter. And the ring stock is about 1" Overall length of the ring and post is 15 1/2" It weighs a little over 6lbs. It is in super nice condition with a nice finish. It has been lightly brushed of any loose surface rust and oiled. The construction is early and primitive, with the blacksmith's lap joints clearly visible and prominent. unbelievable piece that looks way nicer"in hand" than in the pictures. This auction is for a Antique( not reproduction) cast iron hitching post done in the rustic style. We believe this example dates to the Victorian Era from 1850 to the 1890's. This was removed from a very prominent equestrian estate in the Chagrin Valley area in Ohio. Measures 64" high and 9" wide at very top. Weighs 51 lbs. There are two cracks and are pictured in my last two photos. Neither crack effects the structural integrity of the hitching post and could be easily welded with great effect. Here's an antique Hitching Post topper. Made of heavy cast iron with black paint. This came from a gentleman who says it's been stored away for many years. He did say it was repainted in the 60s/70s but wasn't used after that except for display and is a genuine oldie from his family. He thinks 20s era or older. I've done all the research I can to find out a maker as there's no name listed anywhere on this but there is some distinguishable foundry marks on the sides which I've shown up close. I've poured over many. Many photos online and there's only 1 example I can find that has every detail the same as mine. It's a sold listing and can be seen by searching item#400742739080. They didn't know the makers name either but literally every detail, dimension, mold lines and all is identical. This piece stands ... morejust a wee under 10" tall. Just under 3.5" wide across ears, 8" across from mane to nose tip and the post mounting hole is 1 7/8" and this weighs 9lbs. Authentic Cast Iron Horse Hitching Post, Mid 19th Century Antique, New Orleans
This hitching post topper is guaranteed not to be a reproduction. Very heavy cast iron horse head never had a ring. We've seen this exact post in authentic pictures of the old French Quarter in New Orleans. Ours does not have a hallmark or any identication marks to indicate who made it. As you can see in the photos. There is no rust on the outside, and only a bit of natural oxidation can be seen inside, near the notched part where it was attached to a post. There are a couple of splatters of white paint on one side, see photo. We rescued this piece from the tack room in a Western Iowa barn. It stands 15 1/2" tall. Weighs 27 pounds, and is exactly as we found it, very clean and undamaged(except for the lack of the pole it was attached to) We can see no evidence of repairs or alterations. This horse head is more rare because it was cast from one mold. This process was known as being"Cast in the round" from one piece. Most casting found for sale are made from two molds. One for the left side and the other for the right side of the horses head. Once the molds have been cast they are joined which of course leaves a visible seam which over time can become loose and begin to separate. The horse head is heavy weighing approximately 8 pounds. It is difficult to get an exact weight since part of the old hitching post is still connected but can be removed if you prefer. Antique Cast Iron Piece With Finial-Turnstile? Hitching Post? Post Topper? Heavy
A very old and very unusual cast iron piece. After posting online looking for more information. An antique follower told me he believes it is an antique cast iron turnstile, and that the finial was there to deter folks from jumping over it to avoid paying. Others have suggested it could be the center for a horse hitching post. In any case, this piece is very heavy, weighing almost 14 lbs. The base of it looks like it clearly mounts on top of a post. There are four'arms' that come out, and each would have some type of wooden(or other) pole, beam, etc mounted into the arm and held in place thru the hole on top of each arm. In addition, the piece with the four arms rotates around on the base. Then on top is the decorator finial. The piece measures just under 12" high, and is about 13" wide. One antique cast iron African American jockey hitching post. The post is all original. I noticed he was a little rough around the bottom of his feet. I think some weld is rusting away. The jockey stands roughly 22 inches. The base is 3 1/4 inches high. The total height of the statue is roughly 25 1/4 inches. The jockey is clean and odor free. A real nice old shabby piece. Horse Hitching post top cast iron hobble vintage antique ring 1800s
This is a nice piece of Americana. It is about 13.5 inches tall and 6.5 inch in diameter at the base. This would fit on a post up to 6 inches in diameter or mount it in a cement column. I have been told this is a horse hobble for when the horses were put to graze so they wouldn't get too far. This weighs about 20 pounds and is cast iron. I would place this at the late 1800s.

Antique Horse Head Hitching Post from Western Illinois 1880s Historic Rare Iron
This piece was acquired by my grandparents in the 1950s. They got it in a small town in Western Illinois. The town is off the Illinois River and begins with the letter"M" I'm sorry I forgot the name of the town. I heard the story many times but the name of the town slipped my mind. This horse was in front of the bank in this small town. My grandfather mounted this hitching post to a log in the 1950s. The horse head spins on the base. It is mounted with a set screw in the back of the horse near the mane. This is the way my grandfather found it other than the mounting on the log. He kept it in his house so it stayed nice. The street looks like dirt. Look to be a couple of hitching posts to the left of the building, and a false front on the small store? immediately to the left. The pictured building has a cellar door shown. No marks or identifying location information. Found in Northeast Ohio. 15 lb Cast Iron Antique Buggy Horse Cow Dog Hitching Post Tether Weight Vintage
Listing this evening a nice old 15 pound(actually 15.4 pounds) weight to tether your horse or other large animal while you are busy chopping wood. Baling hay or doing other chores around the back forty. I used to use one of these to keep my kid brother from leaving the front yard while I was mowing the lawn. It didn't actually stop him from leaving the front yard but it did make him a strong little guy and he was awfully hungry when I eventually caught up to him 2 blocks away) It is unmarked and in excellent shape with zero damage(no rust at all) It is 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" on the bottom and tapers to 3 5/8" x 3 1/8" on top. Nice item. You can see the hammer indentations of the forged shaping of the bolt. Its a 3" ring and a 4" eye bolt. The nut is classic turn of the century square 7/8" Looks like 7/16" thread(not positive about that but its under 1/2" Update: I noticed the nut was rusted on(which wouldn't be much use as hardware) so I cleaned it with a wire wheel(just the threads) and oiled it so it is freely moving. The photo with the nut further on is most recent and reflects the condition of the threads.

Listing an old 1800's Hitching Post Ring w/U Pin in very good condition. The ring is a thick hand wrought iron blacksmith quality piece showing only moderate wear. It is 2 3/4" in diameter. The U Pin steel and is 2 1/2" long. The U Pin appears to be missing the last 1/4" on the tips(they aren't as pointy as originally made) You would have to sharpen the tips again to drive it into a post or beam securely. As always.
