Folk Art Wooden Red Head Woodpecker Door Knocker Pull Cord - PRIMITIVE HANDMADE
This is another one of the doorknocker's taken off the cottage that was being torn down. This is a very Old and Primitive homemade hand crafted piece. Woodpecker sits on a flat piece of wood that measures 9 3/4" by 2 1/4" wide. The black paint is chipped off and you can see green paint underneath. There is a hole in the flat wood where the bird pivots up and down on a metal rod. There is a sisal rope with a wood dowel end that is attached to the woodpecker. This runs down behind the wood in a channel for pulling to get the woodpecker to knock. The wooden worn red-headed woodpecker makes a life like knocking sound when it taps on the flat wood. Board has holes for screws and the old screws are included. The woodpecker has a missing 3-d wing on the left. You can see the outline of where the wing sat should you want to replace ... moreit. The bird used to be white and cream and most all of the paint is all chipped off. Still a great example of an old folk art piece of creativity. Great doorknocker collectable. This listing features a neat. OLD metal door knocker. I believe it to be brass from the oxidation on the underside and that a magnet does not stick. It has a bronze wash paint on the front. It needs to be repainted or stripped as it has some minor paint loss on the front from wear and weather. It measures 9" long and is 3 1/2" wide. This Antique 19th Century Door Knocker is in the form Boreas the north wind god and a pair of cherubs. Boreas is depicted on the backplate with wild hair. Threatening scowl and ferocity in his eyes. His mouth is agape to hold the large striker below. The striker itself is heavily decorated and features a pair of curly haired cherubs supporting a large shield upon their shoulders. The knocker has a Mediterranean origins and obvious Renaissance influences, this is the kind of door knocker that straddles the line between utilitarian and artistic. Construction is solid bronze and has a wonerful patina that only 100+ years of exposure to the elements can produce. Overall condition is excellent. This is unmarked. But looks quite old. It measures 6" tall x 3" wide x 2.5" deep. The door depth measures 1 3/4" It has a nice latch for inside security and a long"U" shaped knocker on the outside. There is some white paint on the section that would be inside the door and some rust on the inside bottom section which makes me think it may be bronze or brass plated and not solid brass.

This buzzer is from a collection of early doorbells purchased at a North Shore auction last summer. It has been left un-restored and the rugged original mechanism should provide years of worry free service with the original patina. This piece has an understated Art Nouveau pattern cast into it with an indistinct"130" casting mark on the reverse face(see the images) Construction is early 20th century solid brass or bronze. Measurements: 5-3/4" Tall by 2-1/2" Wide by 7/8" Deep c.1900-1910 Installation requires the attachment of just two wires to the rear of the buzzer(hardwired) The original bakelite button does not light up.

Magnificent Antique Cast Iron Door Knocker with Greek Face Unknown Age/ Maker For your consideration is a rather unique item that frankly I do not know anything about. I will describe it the best I can and provide many detailed photographs. But if you have some information about it please let me know and I will be happy to add to the description. The knocker appears to be made from cast iron and has the look of a sculpture form ancient Rome or Greece. The knocker measures about 8 inches tall and 6 inches at its widest point. I included two pictures with a penny for scale purposes. There is some damage to it, I think a piece is missing from under the chin and also at top of the hair line on the right side. Considerable red paint remains on the face with some black paint in other areas of the hair. It has a great patina to it and is very impressive. ... moreI can only imagine the house that this must have gone along with how ever many years ago, it must have been something. The only markings that I can make out are what looks like 166 on the back, but it is hard to read and I could be wrong. I don't know if this was a model number, or a foundry identification number. In any event this would make a great candidate for proper restoration. Or perhaps a pattern to build a reproduction. It would also just look great as a decoration, it certainly caught my eye when we were clearing out the attic. If you have any questions please let me know.
