Ideal for that special pair of double doors. I would not be surprised to see a set of bronze vintage handles such as these opening the doors of a Private Bank. Each handle measures 33cms x 6cms and weigh just a tad over 1 kilo each. So 2 Kilos of Bronze offered. They naturally show signs of use commensurate with their age which could be as early as Victorian. The thumb catches operate perfectly. The 6 fastening holes are countersunk. Looking at the unseen once fitted back of these handles one may note the rough casting evidence and the way the lever catch guide has been hand riveted to the stepped door plate. Offered are 7 thumb latch door handles. I have had these for about 40 years thinking I would use them. I know this is a man's thing& I don't know a whole lot about them other than I've always liked them. I was going to list them separately but I couldn't remember what latch went to what handle. One latch is not here. There is light surface rust but I know they will clean up nicely. 3 of the handles are the same. I'm not positive but I think their Norfolk style. Wrought iron, American latch circa 1800-1820. 8 3/4" high, 1 1/2" wide. The one with the pewter handle is Norfolk style, 7 3/4" high, 1 1/4" wide, early 19th century, a piece of the pewter is gone, it looks like it happened long ago. One is Norfolk style from 2nd quarter of 19th century with unusual feathered decorative feature in center ... moreof handle, 7 1/4" high, 1 3/4" wide. I have seen this one sell for $110.00. The one with the knob in the middle is 6 1/2" long. 1 1/2" wide. The one with the separate thumb latch is 6 1/2" long. I may be completely wrong on my facts because they look so primitive to me. 2 similar Suffolk narrow cusp thumb latch door handles
2 very similar antique Suffolk thumb latches with parts. The latches are 18th/early 19th century. They are 10" and 10 1/2" long. Each has narrow upper and lower cusps. This makes them desirable for doors with narrow stiles. They may be used as interior or exterior latches. The thumb pieces are original and are 2 1/4" and 3" long. The latch bars are period and are 7" long. The keepers and staples are wrought reproductions. Note that the keepers are the nice legged type as opposed to a simple drive in one. Made of red bronze. about 9 inches long, they are unpolished, having a shine only on the contact areas[handle and thumb latch] and showing off the nice warm worn patina. no damage at all, though the"dummy" handle is missing its thumb latch. the last 2 pics attempt to show the patented date under the thumb-latch of May 1880 K-38-First of all. Weight is always the total weight of the object and may or may not give a good idea of the scrap value as I do not guess the weight of wood. My scale computes to the nearest gram and it has been tested and calibrated. A note to silver scrappers: There are those on Ebay who will claim that the weight of an object is less than advertised and demand a rebate after the auction has ended. This is an ongoing trend and these individuals seem to complain if silver prices go down between the day they buy and the day they receive. When one melts silver one can lose as much as 5% of the weight in the smelting process and I can not be held responsible for weight lost after melting. I do not generally melt anything that is well made as it makes little sense to me. So any potential loss should be considered before purchasing my items. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. Antique wrought iron Norfolk thumb latch with parts. The latch is early 19th century. It is 7 3/4" long. The 2 1/2" thumb piece is period but may have been replaced. There are nice bold turnings on the handle. The latch bar is period and is 5" long. The keeper and staple are wrought reproductions. I have a number of Norfolk latches with various style handles. Antique Wrought Iron Suffolk Thumb Latch, 18th Century, Large 14" Handle
A very nice and quite large 18th century Suffolk style thumb latch with the handle measuring 14" high. Each cusp is 5" x 5" across. The handle is well worked and rounded and the grip measures 4" high and has a decorative linear indent in the center shown in close-up below. Thumb press is flat with a nicely curved arched finger lift on the off-side(shown below) Latch will accommodate a door up to 2 1/2" thick without modification. The accompanying original bar set features a 8" bar. A 2" drive-in staple, and a 3 5/8" high rat-tail keeper. When mounted the keeper extends about 1 1/4" All parts of the bar set are original. The handle is 5" high, 1" diameter at the widest part. The thumb is 1 1/4" wide, 1 1/8" deep, and the thumb lever projects 3 1/4" from the back plate. It will accommodate up to a 2 1/2" door. This early latch is hand forged and is quite pitted but solid. It appears to have a coat of oil on it to help preserve it. There are no visible cracks, breaks or repairs, but the handle appears to be bent slightly to the right of center. There are no interior door parts included. Old wonderful reproduction wrought iron Suffolk thumb latch door handle
A wonderful old reproduction large Suffolk thumb latch with parts. The latch is a reproduction-but vvery well made. by a talented blacksmith. The upper and lower cusps are welded onto the handle-as opposed to all being one piece. The latch is 13 1/4" long. The cusps are great with a triangular shape-with the sides being serrated. The cusps are 4" wide. The thumb piece is original is over 5" long and beautifully made. The thumber is 1 5/7" wide. The latch bar is an old reproduction. The keeper and staple are wrought reproductions. The keeper is a nice legged one as opposed to a simple drive in one. If this piece were period-it would be several hundred $$. Antique wrought iron Suffolk thumb latch with parts. The latch is 9 1/4" long. The thumb piece is original and is 2 1/2" long. The upper and lower cusps of this latch are sort of clover leaf shaped. While we cannot be sure-I have owned and sold a number of this form and most all of them have a New Hampshire connection. The latch bar is period and is 7" long.
