Antique, original entry door set made by"Norwich" of Norwich, CT during the late 1880's This set consists of 2 bronze knobs, 1 bronze escutcheon, 1 bronze rosette, 1 bronze keyhole cover, 1 bronze thumb turn, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze face plate, 2 working keys and 1 spindle with 2 set screws. All bronze parts are solid, heavy cast bronze- not stamped or plated iron. We found this set with the 4 parts with it. so we added a period rosette, keyhole cover, and thumb turn from our collection to complete this set. Norwich" was a smaller company during its time, and now its very difficult to find parts for one of these sets. All bronze parts are embellished with lovely aesthetic(East lake) style details. I could not find any big chips or cracks, some of the residue on the glass, I am unable to tell if it's small chips, scratches- when I tried to see if it was a scratch, it did come off. It does need restoration. The knobs measure 2" The center bar is approximately 6-7mm. I believe the building it came from was either a funeral home or church based on the information card that each piece description was on. The cards read. Pair of Genuine Vintage Solid Wood Door Knobs with Backing Plates and Connecting Bar/ Spindle. They are a dark wood. Possibly mahogany, they are as found and need a clean up. They have been highly polished/ varnished and a lot of this has worn off. There are also bits of paint on them. Antique Branford Lock Works Cast Iron Rim Lock Marbled Door Knob Pat 1863
We were lucky enough to get many items from the attic of an old home in downtown Louisville. This is a really cool old door knob that someone told me is called a rim lock. We don't have a key and you will need to put a screw in one of the knobs to keep it from falling off since the screw is missing. The deadbolt is in the lock but it looks like the latch isn't there. The old lock is embossed with the marking BLW for Branford Lock Works and a patent date of 1863. I dont' know what the knob is made of but it looks like some kind of brown swirled marble and there is a small chip on one of the knobs that you should be able to see in the picture. The old cast iron should clean up nicely and make a great piece for an old home.
