So while they're minor issues, I mention them. I'll estimate this piece around the turn of the 20th century in age. The stand is 30" high. It's 12 1/2" at the widest bend in the legs. It doesn’t appear to have ever been used. It was sitting in the attic. The finish is dark and aged to a lovely patina. I believe the seat is original. It has a dainty carved press back, multi-turn spindles, knuckle arms, multi-turn spindles on the platform base and original castors. This is a great find for those who love original finish antiques. The overall size is 23 inches wide across the arms, 17 inches wide on the seat, 19 inches deep, 40 inches high to the chair back, 26 inches high to the arm and 16 inches high to the seat. The platform has two coil springs that allows the rocking chair top to ride on the platform base.

Field Guide to American Victorian Furniture 1st Edition Sofa Sideboard Bookcase
I have come into possession of some nice books that I will be auctioning off now and again. This auction is for a 1st edition book titled"Field Guide to American Victorian Furniture" by Thomas H Ormsbee. This is a great smaller pocket type book that covers many facets of the Victorian furniture period in America. It covers the high end pieces that would have been found in the mansions of the time to the more common items found in the farmhouse or the small business man in the village. There are many black and white drawings as examples of the period furniture and then you get the text describing the characteristics of the piece and similar pieces of the time. The book was published in 1952 and does have a lettering system that translates into a price range for the piece. It is interesting to compare the 1952 price to what is being ... morerealized today. Believe or not some pieces have not changed much in price range. This was a former Dunkirk Free Library book but was withdrawn from the shelves in the early 1970s. It has been in a private collection since then. The book is still in pretty good condition with some foxing to the cover. Other than that it is ready for use as a research book again. Antique Furniture Victorian Empire Walnut Civil War Sofas Couch 1800s
This sofa/ couch was made in the Civil War era. 1820-1860) It is 82" long and 39" high to the center at the back. This sofa is ornate with hand carved walnut wood about 2" thick in dark brown color of the grape and leaf patterns. The cushion is about 4" at highest point. 58" long without arm, and 20" deep. It is an original tanned upholstery with the small mauve flower pattern. It is decorated with some fabric buttons on the cushion. The cushion is very firm. There are 3 light water stains on the cushion sitting area as shown in the pictures. There is a small worn area on the fabric of the left arm. No major damage on the cushion. The cushion is 5" high from the floor. It has the brass rivets stitched along the cushion all the way around the front. The arm is 24 1/2" high from the floor. Each arm of ... morethe sofa has embossed hand crafted grape leaf design. There is a wooden surface damage on the top right arm. The stitching at the back along the left arm has come detached about 2" The legs are very stunning with the hand carvings on wood about 2 3/4" thick. The end of the legs have brass wheels about 1" diameter. There is a tear at the back on right foot area of the upholstery about 2" But it is not noticeable. The back felt cover is purple/ blue. It is faded. There are rusty nails holding back cover. That is partially torn off. The bottom of the couch covered with the fabric. It is old, has no tears. All the tears mentioned can be fixed. It is decorated with a portrait of a Victorian lady done in the style of the Gibson Girls. The portrait is not signed but could possibly be by the artist(Charles Dana Gibson) I just can not say for sure. The back is marked: COMPLIMENTS OF ATHERTON FURNITURE COMPANY. There is no maker mark. Here is a bit of history on Atherton Furniture- LeBaron Atherton came to the U.S. from Canada in 1897. He bought the failing B. A. Atkinson& Co. furniture store in Lewiston Maine after making it successful. Other stores were opened later in Waterville. Bangor, and Portland as well as Brockton, Worcester, Springfield, Pittsfield, and Haverill, Massachusetts. This plate measures approx 7 1/2" across. It has a scalloped embossed border in Art Nouveau style. Color is a deep blue/green teal with gold trim on edge. Condition: It is without chips. Cracks, nicks or dings. There is crazing within the glaze- this is most noticeable on the back of the plate, but also visible on front when one looks closely. Front also has tiny particles within the glaze- plus a couple tiny flecks into the glaze- imperfections from when plate was made. It remains a beautiful plate exhibiting only minor wear when one considers it age! A very nice plate for those who enjoy Victorian fashion and decorative arts. Giant. Antique, architectural panel. Solid walnut construction and guaranteed an authentic, Victorian era piece. It has thick, bevelled trim along the bottom and raised bevelled panels far left and right. 2 vertical, fluted columns have contoured bases and round medallions at top. In the middle is a leafy carving with another raised, bevelled panel surrounding it. Above the beveled cornice trim is a dramatic sunrise decoration. This whopper measures 38 1/2 inches wide and just over 22 3/4 inches tall. The very top looks like it is missing something and the far right area has a darker patina. Antique Dresser Top Mirror Shaving Drawer Civil War Era Victorian Furniture
This auction is for an antique dresser top mirror or shaving mirror with drawer. It is of a beautiful dark wood- I think possibly mahogany. There is beautiful dark wood grain to this piece. I believe this probably dates to the Civil War era. It is about 21 inches tall. 23 inches across and 9 1/4 inch deep. The mirror is a replacement and there is a lovely piece of matching wood grained wood to the back of the mirror. There is one drawer. I think the sides and bottom of the drawer have been replaced at some point. It really is a gorgeous piece! Email with any questions. I dont know what this was on. In the rubble was what looked like a dresser and also a small box. It is brass and is 3 1/4 by 3. It has a lady with a large hat in the center. Not sure how it attached or if it was even on furniture. It could have been a piece of jewelry or maybe fit on a dress. It is light. came across an old house that the roof had caved in on. Most anything wood was completely destroyed. There had been some great old furniture that was rotted from exposure to the elements. I got permission to take anything I wanted from the house.
