Great condition. But does have some give between the back and legs piece and the seat which can be easily remedied with some glue as the wood joints are intact. L(Leopold) JG Stickley Solid Cherry(Valley) Dining Sitting Armchair. Here is a L(Leopold) JG Stickley Solid Cherry(Valley) Dining Sitting Armchair from ... moretheir Cherry Valley collection. I’ve only owned this for the past 15 years. So I don’t know the exact age of this piece, but I assume it’s relatively modern. Be aware that this is a Pickup Only item. I don't have any interest in shipping this item whatsoever. Based on the time it would use up for me to pack and ship this. I would have to charge at least $100 over shipping costs and that might add up to $400 or so. So hopefully someone in the surrounding Milwaukee/Madison/Greater Chicagoland area will have enough interest to make the effort to drive over here and pick it up. Approximate sizing is 29 ½” tall. 26” wide, and 24” deep. Recently purchased a well-made rocking chair at an estate and since moving into a smaller condo. I have to get rid of whatever I replace because I don’t have enough storage space to keep extras of anything. So out goes my Stickley which for me was a sitting/waiting chair by the doorway. The finish is original and except for the usual signs of well maintained reasonable use. This chair is in great condition and has a super nice mature dark cherry finish on it. There are signs of wear from hands on the ends of the arms. The usual slight but still clearly visible scratches on the seat from men’s keys/pocket stuff(see pics, the worst one does penetrate through the finish and into the wood) and slight scuffs in various locations in various places on the chair’s surface. But unless you’re a perfectionist. There’s no way this thing needs or should ever get a refinish. No major nicks. Dings, or gouges whatsoever. There are two 6’s or 9’s stamped on the underside of the seat along with an inked 7086. Pretty much what you see with this one is what you get—but the wear and tear I described is still there whether or not it is visible in the photos. And if the chair came with metal/plastic gliders on the legs. They’re gone now since I didn

This catalog is a wonderful artifact that showcases Stickley's works in wood, metal, lighting, and willow at the peak of his commercial success. ANTIQUE STICKLEY FURNITURE, AMERICAN ARTS & CRAFTS - The GRAY COLLECTION
At Home With Gustav Stickley. Arts& Crafts from the Stephen Gray Collection” Edited by Elizabeth Mankin Kornhauser& Linda H. Roth. Published by the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art& the University Press of New Enland in 2008. DISCUSSION: During his first years as an Arts and Crafts furniture maker. From about mid-1900 to early 1904, Gustav Stickley and his designers created the most significant cabinetwork his firm would ever produce. For the most part made of quarter-sawn American oak, this furniture was substantial, subtly proportioned, essentially rectilinear, and built using traditional joinery—for instance, tenon and key, dovetail, pinned through tenons—and employing hand-wrought copper or iron hardware. These structural elements were both functional and symbolic, literally holding the furniture together while also expressing ... moreits moral aesthetic: though a factory product, every piece was solidly, honestly made. Stephen Gray is among those few who, early on, recognized both the inherent beauty of Arts and Crafts furniture and the value of the Craftsman Ideal. His collection includes many of the rarest forms and has few equals, but in two regards, it is almost singular: Stephen Gray lives with this major collection and has embraced the Craftsman Ideal in a beautiful, simple, personal, regionally sensitive manner. He lives in a nineteenth-century country house and has integrated an important collection with the ideas of decorating, lifestyle, and sensitivity to environment that were central to the Craftsman enterprise. Through Stephen Gray’s collection, it is possible to explore the disparate values of the Arts and Crafts Movement, the Arts and Crafts interior, and the tensions inherent in the pursuit of an aesthetically simple Ideal life. This lavishly illustrated book features Stickley’s furniture, including many photographs of Stickley designs in use, and it also includes some fine examples of art pottery, lighting fixtures, tiles, and color woodblock prints. The essays by David Cathers on Stickl
