This chest measures 48 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 17 inches high. When opened. You are greeted with the fresh scent of natural cedar as a shelf rises up and away for easy access to the chest below. Based on the serial number. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Some of the grain is slightly raised on the front(as seen in the picture) Several pictures were taken under different lighting conditions. There are a few very minor scratches. But overall it is in very good condition. IMPORTANT: As per the requirements of the Consumer Products Safety Commission. This wooden carpenter's tool box was discovered at a small flea market in upper Bucks County Pennsylvania. Chock full of rusty-dirty charm. This box has outer strap hinges that were riveted on with brass. A set of strap hinges were added down the middle for added strength, these were fastened with antique wood screws. The bottom part of the padlock latch is attached to a modified strap hinge. The paint is chipped and chipping. There is an oil stain around the hinge of the padlock latch, someone penciled a circle on the lid*under* the handle- so the circle, apparently, is from before the handle was added.and that handle has been attached for a long time! Inside there is a tray with a hole cut out of it to accommodate some unknown tool of yester-year. The tray must have been made from an old crate as the word"GLASS" can still ... morebe seen stenciled on one board. On the outside. Below the lid, there is a thin notch, one can only wonder what function that notch was cut for. The often missing handles on the side are firmly attached with antique wood screws. Measures: 31. 15/16 inches wide- 9, 3/8 inches deep and 10, 1/2 inches tall. This box is sturdy with no loose screws. Inside the shelf is dirty, there are water stains on the bottom and inside. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. This little chest was handmade of cedar and measures 21In. x 10 1/2in. x 9 1/2in. outside overall(handles. Top sides) and the inside measures 19 1/4 in. x 9 1/4in. x 7 1/4 in. There is a nice old wood knot on the top which gives this trunk a character. A quaint look that was often seen when people made furniture and other things from scrap. There are several light sctatches that will easily come out with good polishing. I don't clean in anyway the items I find to sell so you are getting this just as I found it. 1963 Lane Blanket Hope Storage Trunk Chest Danish Modern Cedar Mid Century
Danish modern style cedar chest by Lane in excellent condition. This mid century modern style blanket chest is completely cedar lined. Stands on sturdy walnut peg legs with brass caps, has a bottom pullout drawer and is totally original, excellent with just a couple small nicks. Outside measurements are 18 by 40 and stands 20 high. The top and outside finishes are walnut solids and veneers. Note the date stamp: for those who do not know. All vintage Lane products denote there date or manufacture with the serial number. backwards, in this case Aug 21, 1963. It stands on Danish style peg legs. This chest is made of cedar wood and measures approximately 9 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide and 4 inches high. This auction is for an older and super neat Oak Trunk or Hope Chest or Blanket Box or a Killer Coffee Table From England. It has a primitive look to it and the Look is Wonderful. It has the super cool& neat"dovetailed corner joints" that are exposed on each end for all to see. The top and all sides and ends are Solid Oak. The floor is an older oak venner and the bottom is mounted with the older"flathead screws" into the bottom of the walls. It has strap hinges. The top is not warped. It's a neat item that would add interest& charm to any room in your home. It has a medium Dark Honey-Reddish Oak Patina to it. The top or lid is 39 3/4" X 18 1/2" and 19 1/2" tall overall. The front brass hinge does no t appea r to be complete- but overall appears very lightly used and very well preserved. It measures 12 1/2" by 5" standing 1 1/2" Conceived in an American Arts& Crafts/ Art Nouveau aesthetic. Maxfield Parrish was commissioned in the early 1900's to do a series of these for the candy manufacturer they are today quite rare as few survived. The box is really a work of art as seen. STUNNING ANTIQUE 1926 ROOS CEDAR HOPE CHEST! The Ed Roos Company. Based in Forest Park, IL, was in business from 1916-1951 and made chests in popular styles from Edwardian to Art Deco. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. The picture ... moreshows a felt pad preventing the chest to close completely due to the lock periodically sticking. It can be opened. Just difficult sometimes. This is a fixable mechanical issue. I have not cleaned any of these pieces. Upper Pair of Earrings are pierced and are of a Gold tone mesh metal. Age metal wear to them. The 4 Strand Metal Bead Necklace is missing some dangle Beads. The Beads have flaking. Repair piece. Has hook latch clasp. The White accent piece is a Bracelet. Clasp has been replaced. Different looking color for the metal? on the clasp. The clasp works but stands out for it does not match the metal color on the Bracelet. Some white accents have discoloration to them. One accent is missing. On back this Bracelet has a designer name: Hope Chest. Also. There is alot of wear on back-residue discoloration. Repair ... morepiece. Measures approx 7 1/4 inches from end to end. Last, is a 1940's Bead Necklace. Clasp works and has age metal wear and patina. Beads need cleaning, have age wear and flaking. Necklace measures from end to end approx 15 1/2 inches and this is an estimate. Necklace needs to be re-strung. Not mint. For your Harvest projects-repair piece. SMALL ANTIQUE WOODEN HOPE CHEST or DOCUMENT BOX with HANDLES
Here we have a small antique wooden hope chest or document box. the wood has a beautiful golden patina. the lid is chamfered and the sides are canted. there is a latch to receive a lock( see photo 4) there are handles on both sides of the box. the inside was painted red at some time. the paint is not as old as the box. the overall size is 15 inches long( 18 inches long with the handles) by 8 inches wide. it stands 6 inches tall. the piano hinge that secures the lid to the box. Is 15 inches long. a great looking decorative in any room of the home or shop. there is no reserve. as shown in photo 11, there is a small chip out of the wood.
