The piece stands 73 1/2" tall. 40 1/2" wide, and 19 1/2" deep. The piece has a fantastic flat top along with a shell carved lower drawer, cabrio legs and all four Queen Anne pad feet. We are unsure of the manufacturer as there are no markings however the top chest slides neatly into the bottom chest and has a combined total of 11 drawers. It is in overall great condition however we do believe that the hardware has been replaced as well as a possible resurface and is likely a marriage upon very close inspection but works quite well. Noted and shown there is a separation to the lower section on either side. It came to us from a prominent estate and the previous owner made sure to note that their original purchase price was $11,500. A fresh find ready to grace your space! DESCRIPTION: Beautiful 2-piece curly maple 10 drawer flat top highboy. It is an 18th century New England piece that spent a lot of its years in Maine. It is curly maple with secondary woods of poplar and what appears to be chestnut or ash. The back of the base appears to be maple. The back of the top section appears to be chestnut or ash. The drawer sides and backs are poplar. The two square drawers have poplar bottoms. The other drawers have bottoms that appear to be a combination of poplar and chestnut or ash. The base and top section are both dove tailed construction. Visible nail heads are of a rectangular shape. The brass pulls are old but do not appear to be original. The legs may have been replaced but cannot say for certain. It appears to have the original finish and is a very beautiful piece of history. All secondary wood is solid pine. There is no plywood used anywhere on this piece. The casework and all drawers are hand dovetailed. Front(half-blind) and back(thru dovetails) The drawer bottoms are solid pine slip bottoms true to the era. The drawer fronts are solid walnut with highly figured walnut burl veneer fronts. Ready to go in the home. Top is from the early 20thc and has been refinished. The top could be birch? The case is from the 1780's approx. Two back knee blocks are missing as shown(one front leg and one rear) Some patched repairs to front drawers as seen. Normal wear for the age. Antique hardware is probably old replacements. Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! American Chippendale Walnut Tall Case Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. Circa 1760-80 Item# 120106UTT08 This early tall case antique chest of drawers is a fine example of 18th Century Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Representing the desire for curvature and embellishment even in the clean lines we've come to love from Pennsylvania cabinetmakers. Framed inside the handsome carved crown projecting over the entire case, the top of this tall case chest of drawers is unusually finished with a smooth planed walnut surface. It's height is just at the level where a craftsman must choose whether to leave it unfinished. Or if a tall client might be offended by the rough surface- clearly the cabinetmaker chose to err on the side of caution in his design by finishing it completely. The fully graduated gallery ... moreof three small drawers over six broad drawers naturally draws the eye upward. True to Pennsylvania tradition. The secondary woods of the drawers are thick and generous; each drawer has thick hand dovetails front and back, the bottom being very heavily chamfered along all edges to rabbet into the sides. Replaced hardware on each drawer is somewhat mismatched- look carefully at the photos for details. The original hardware does appear to have been batwing, which would be appropriate for a piece of this design and formality, though clearly larger and with more presence than the current brasses. Many of the locks are still original, secured with rose head nails- the holes for the replaced hardware have been carefully respected and for the most part are undisturbed(see photos for exceptions) Flanking the drawers are two long fluted columns with ring-turned capitals and bases. Seemingly lifting the canopy on this chest and making the overall heavy design appear light and easy. The sides of the case dovetail top and bottom into the case, though the top dovetails are hidden beneath the walnut top. This phone was manufactured in the same era as the Western Electric 102(round base) and 202(oval base) and is similar in style but is much more Art Deco elegant. The base of the phone is made out of thick solid bakelite so is the handset and bellbox; the cradle is made out of brass and refinished with high quality oven baked on black lacquer. This is the number one collectors Art Deco of all Art Deco Telephones The outer dial. Fingerwheel and the handset parts are triple chrome plated at a high cost. It has been repaired at some point and I don't believe the front legs are original to the piece which made somewhat hard to put an exact date on. The most of the interior wood surfaces seem to rough as if the it was hand planed. All the joinings on the back are chisel pegged(see photos) The dovetailing looks to be hand done but I could be mistaken(see photos) I would estimate this piece is from early 1800s. Estimated to be from the 1920's the details are wonderful. The legs have carved accents, and are Queen Anne with a heavy spoon foot. The sides are columned sides, with a detailed accent. The wood is solid mahogany. The hardware is all original solid brass. The top is a high crest with a broken arch and a turned finial. The arch has open carving for a nice touch. All is quality very strong and just a beautiful finish. It measures 74" high x 36" wide x 21" deep. This is a very nice heirloom quality piece of furniture.
