Up for auction is a beautiful 1924 Oshkosh steamer trunk. This is by far the most immaculate one I have ever seen. Great condition inside and out, and still has all the original interior components including hangers, all drawers, even the ironing board. It has the original lock and key and is fully functional. All the brass looks beautiful for its age, has original stickers from all over including what looks like dusseldorf and new york. After serving as commander of Scott Field from 1933 to 1937, spent the majority of the rest of his career on the staff of the Chief of the Army Air Corps. His last assignment on active duty was as commander of Fairchild Field at Spokane, Washington. He retired in 1944 and passed away in March 1965. Quite interesting historical piece! army air corps, who was one of the first five men to volunteer for flight training when the army introduced it in 1911. Col. Kennedy. Went to Germany in 1922 to observe construction of the dirigible Los Angeles for the United States, and after the attack on Pearl Harbor supervised construction of air corps depots on the west coast. He retired in 1944.

You are viewing a very stunning antique Steamer trunk. Out of all the trunks I've refinished. This is by far the most unique. The metal trim on all sides, front and back has a unique detailing to it. I would dare to say it is one of a kind. It has been refinished inside and out to bring out the beautiful patina to the Pine base and Oak slats. The lock is very ornate with great looking designs. The end clamps and hardware are also very detailed and unique. It has 4 working casters on the bottom to help in moving from place to place. I left the original paperwork holder on the inside top of lid. It is a little stained, but all intact with leather strap to keep it shut. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really nice complete refinished steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. This beautiful trunk consists of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. Considering the age of this trunk. The wood is in very nice condition. It does have some typical stress cracks which are found in most all of the trunks that we refinish Here are the trunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. We are calling this a flat top trunk, although there is a very slight factory arch to the top which may be noticeable in the side view picture. ... moreThis one has a wonderful combination of metal, wood, and leather, no plastic parts to break. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Yale& Towne Mfg Co Stamford Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. In addition to this nice original lock, it also has some nice original fancy front latches that do work properly since the springs are still intact. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away when we received this trunk, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones were. We actually have run this pair of straps under the original strap hold downs or keepers that we have repainted. Since the metal on this trunk is not brass, we have brush painted it by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge banding is made up of some type of leather or pressed composition. We did fill it where some of it was missing and painted it black also. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. They are sturdy. Large Square Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key Air Force
Air Force Military Band Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a refinished flat top steamer trunk from the Air Force. This one had labels on the exterior that gave reference to the Air Force and it had"218 Band" painted on the canvas. It probably was a trunk used by the Air Force to carry around a band instrument. We have taken some pictures of this label and writing on the canvas. We will be including these items with the trunk when it is sold. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 35 inches. From floor to top 20 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 35 inches. This unique trunk is the second one that we have had to refinish out of about 1500 trunks. It is not very common to find a trunk of this size and style. The trunk is made up of pine ply base ... morewood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood does have some older character marks or beaut marks which include nicks and dings on the wood in various places. The trunk maker used a lot of cap metal on the edges. Probably to keep this trunk from being damaged if it got struck on the sides. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This large trunk comes with a signed working lock. It is signed, Excelsior" We had to remount the lock since it was loose when we received the trunk. The lock works since we have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front and side latches also work, although we did have to replace one of the side latches. It is somewhat similar to the other three. This large square flat top trunk could serve nicely as a coffee table, especially if you have a sectional sofa. It would fit right in the 90 degree area in front of the sectional. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather straps. Excellent Dome Top Oak& Tin Steamer Trunk w/ Original Tray This is a very fine example of a 19th century travel steamer trunk with a dome top. The trunk is constructed of Oak and metal. Presumably tin or sheet steel. In the late 1800's when you went on a trip you would often go for more than a month at a time so you had to bring a wide range of clothing and personal items for the trip. This trunk was probably a mid range model, not the cheapest plain jane trunk but not the fanciest trunk either. One thing is for certain, they made trunks in those days to withstand a beating. This trunk is as solid as the day it was made. It open and closes easily and the hinges are still firmly in place and in good working condition. The interior still has the original paper lining. The black metal is flat and plain while the hammered metal sections ... moredepict Red stars and blue leaves. This is an original steamer trunk that has been minimally restored to functioning condition. It has four drawers on one side of the interior and a closet to hang clothing on the other half. All four drawers have been restored. And lined with vintage magazine ad clippings to show the different eras. The wardrobe side is lined with world maps and also original newspaper clippings from the year 1942 showing classified ads for that era. The exterior has been stripped to the original wood then sanded and stained with varnish for a glossy finish. It is partially lined on the exterior with cowhide. A steamer trunk is a type of luggage which takes the shape of a large rugged trunk with a flat top. These trunks were built for long trips. Specifically on steam trains and boats; the flat top makes a steamer trunk easier to handle and stack. Huge Louis Vuitton steamer trunk circa 1890 #15792
This trunk is early 1890's. It is in beautiful condition for a 120-year-old steamer trunk. It has a very low serial number 15792. You can see in the photos the steel bottom with the Louis Vuitton stamp on both ends. With the steel bottom and wooden slats. This trunk is very sturdy. It has the original casters. The outside of the trunk has been stained. But the stripes from the original fabric are very visible. The inside is covered with the original pink striped ticking. It does have staining and wear on the inside. The original locks have been changed by a previous owner. Dimensions are: 43 inches long, 27.5 inches high, 24 inch depth. Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is one of the nicest. Fanciest trunks that we have refinished so far this year. This flat top steamer trunk should date back to the late 1800's to around 1900 or so. This trunk maker did a nice job of running lots of slat boards and metal banding on this trunk. This beautiful trunk consists of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. The wood has lots of older character marks or distress marks which have accumulated mostly onto the outer slat boards. There are also some typical stress cracks in the base wood, although the trunk is still sturdy. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have older distress marks and stress cracks. Here are the ... moretrunk's di mensions: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. A unique feature on this trunk that you don't often find are the five slat boards running across the top. Most trunks have three or four, but not very often d you get five. It also has the three metal bands running up the front and across the top, and you usually don't have that many bands of metal on most trunks. Due to the slat boards and metal banding, it gives this beautiful trunk sixteen wooden sections to the top and sixteen wooden sections at the front of the trunk also. This beautiful trunk comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The metal parts that make up this fancy trunk are not brass. Since they are not brass, we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk maker used a lot of nice hardware when making this trunk. Antique dome top style miniature trunk. The small trunk may have been a child's doll trunk or possibly a salesman's sample. The brass lock has patent dates of March 69 and April 77. The circa 1877 trunk measures about 15 1/2" long x 10" wide x 12 1/2" tall. As pictured. The trunk has the original leather handles and interior tray. The exterior of the trunk has stamped metal with flower designs. The antique trunk is in original condition with leather intact handles and rollers on the bottom. No rust through was found on the metal. The interior paper has wear and the tray has old inactive insect damage. There is no other insect damage to the trunk. Only the back side of the tray. The metal was cleaned with a brass brush and the slates were refinished. The side wood panels were also refinished; there may have been paper ... moreon the sides at some point. It has been in my family ever since. Did you know- Louis Vuitton. The original luxury goods designer, has been in business as a luggage manufacturer since 1854. Prior to making his first trunk Louis had made his name as a dress-packer, packing the clothes of the wealthy into their trunks for their voyages, so he knew his way around the interior of a trunk. His first trunk was not of the type we know today, nor was it covered in the fabric we know today. The first trunk was domed style and covered in a grey canvas, called Gris-Trianon. This is a vintage piece of luggage that is in used but good condition. It is an extremely rare find and rarer to find in this condition and with key. It is blue slim steamer trunk with blue leather trim and leather handles. The trunk opens up and locks in place to allow for clothes to hang from the hangers. The bottom area has dividers and ribbon ties to secure your items. Both sections have a cloth cover. The bottom has snaps to secure it to the bottom of one of the dividers. This trunk is absolutely adorable. It would make a great display piece, end table, or would make ideal storage. It is also quite usable but it is old so I would handle with some care. This trunk is unique is that it has all it's original stamped tin and it also has 4 metal roller wheels on the bottom. The trunk obviously has some issues- there is rust present and some of the wood has come loose. The trunk is missing both of it's side handles and it does not latch properly as well. We believe the insert in the top is probably not original- if it is. It has been modified with the addition of adhesive paper. There is also a moldy smell inside the trunk.
