What caught my eye on this piece was it was a davenport desk. But instead of the typical slant front, this one has a secretary section on top. This is not a married piece, these two started life together, guaranteed. The top has nice intricate Eastlake type of carvings and half pinwheels surround the gallery. The desk top or writing surface drop downs to reveal a nice writing desk. Complete with great little cubbyholes and two drawers. There are no drawers missing, and all the hardware on this piece is original. We have the original key and it is included. The finish is original and has a rich. Warm patina. As with most old furniture, one can see areas where the finish has worn a little from use, which suits me just fine. I like to know that an old piece was used, not just displayed. I am sure if one were to use some stain in places, it would darken these wear spots right up, and then a nice coat of paste wax to continue to preserve this piece. This is local pick-up only. Hello. Up for bid is a WW1 era medal on brass chain. Medal says LLLL over the top. It has a WW1 airplane, ship and US over work tools on it. The brass has a very nice age patina as shown. Back side has greenish growth on it. I believe this was a medal at one time but was made into a pendant on chain. The bottom of the medal has the words AUTHORIZED BY THE SECRETARY OF WAR. The chain is very nice and has a very cool design to it. The chain alone is old and collectable. There is a mark on one of the links in the chain that says UNION on one side and GT or ST in an oval. Larkin desk / secretary - 82" high by 36" wide
A large Larkin(or Larkin-style) secretary/ desk in good condition. Large size: about 82" tall to the filial. 36" wide, and 18" wide below, 8" wide above. Three problems: a wooden pull is missing from the glass panel on the right(as you face the desk) the hinges for the desktop need some work, and the top filial(about 1.5" broke off(but is in a desk drawer) As you can see from the last picture, there is some wear from use- the drawers wear down the wood below on the edges. No wood is missing; it just needs to be refinished. There are slight marks to the lower right of the Inlaid star on the top. The star(top) is composed of 16 individual inlaid pieces in the veneer. The wood is unknow to us, if we(I) had to guess I would say walnut, with maple or ash pinstripping forming the boarders on the top and side edges. The bottom is cover in green felt(no picture) somewhat worn, but not ripped, just some rolled edges(comprised of three pieces of felt) one having the number 033 marked on it. This item came with an auctioneer tag from Gaston& Sheehan Auctioneers Inc. in Pflugerville, Tx. with alot number of 680 on the tag. We called them, but without more information, relative to the piece it was impossible to search just the lot number 680. Nice looking original primitive antique desk topper. Unknown origin, maker, age. As you see it is stenciled 1766 in the same color dark stain as the rest of the piece. Nice size at 30" wide, 9 1/2" tall, and 6" deep. The wood construction is all 1/4" except for the supports. I added extra pictures to show the condition, surface wear, scratching, marks, ect. It is a solid piece in overall good useable condition, no wood cracking, breaks or chips, just the minor condition issues from age and use. All solid oak wood with beautiful tiger striped grain. No veneers. It has a fancy top gallery rail with heart shaped cut outs and a slant front drop down writing desk top that opens to reveal cubby and storage space.It stands 41.75" high overall and is 28.5" wide by 15" in depth from front to back with the writing desk top at 28" from the floor. It once had old green paint on it and was stripped of the paint and finished to the natural oak wood on the exposed exterior area. You can see plenty of traces of old green paint on the underside and on the back. The interior has a painted surface as well.
