DESCRIPTION: Offered is a vintage pair of chrome finish etagere(s) or bookcases in a mid century modernist. Hollywood Regency, Milo Baughman style. These geometric shelving units can be positioned two ways to capture different facing architectural patterns. They are not reversible(as shown in one of the photos, the back of each etagere has visible screws) There are(5) long shelves and(2) short shelves for each unit. The top of each shelf does not support glass and was designed to be open. Each unit has one of the long shelves on the bottom shelf. All glass is original with polished edges with the exception of one smaller glass shelf(it is slightly thinner and does not have polished edges) The frames hollow metal tubing(possibly polished aluminum) is 1.25" tall x 1.25" depth. I'd estimate the weight of each shelf(without glass) ... moreat 35-40 lbs. DIMENSIONS: Each etagere is 72" tall x 40.5" wide x 13.75" depth. 10 glass"long" shelves are each 23.5" long x 11`" wide 4 glass"short" shelves are each 12.75" long x 11" wide CONDITION: Overall very good condition. There are a couple spots that has some oxidation(dulling) to finish. There are a couple very small dings to the metal. One"foot" cap on the bottom of each shelving unit is missing. Designed by Milo Baughman, first released in 1955 these models are from the first year's production lines. Dog Bone" handles. Ample space, silver Elm wood, they are great looking. The top of the Buffet was refinished though there is still faint indications of a deep scratch. Minor scuffs here and there and the hutch has some discoloration on one side which I have seen occur in other products produced from Elm. Designed by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin. The Stanly County Public library, Albemarle North Carolina, commissioned Thayer Coggin to produce these pieces in 1971 to furnish the library. The library has since redecorated and we won these pieces at auction. We are listing them here immediately after picking them up from there. Some of the pieces are all original with the original tags and some have been reupholstered and no longer posses their tags. All frames are the original chrome finish, steel frames. The wood is book matched& it's in excellent condition except for a few small nicks on the bottom backside(last picture shows this) They are hardly noticeable& would be easy to patch. The foam on the sofa is still nice& soft. The original fabric is in good condition. Free of any tears. Stains or bad odors with only some loose ends throughout the embroidery. These could be filled in by an upholsterer if you wish to do so but the settee can certainly be used as is. I'd recommend keeping the original fabric but it could certainly be redone affordably. The legs have some damage(more on the inside of the legs) some scraping. This is not very noticeable when you have chairs with the table. I only have the one leaf as shown and there should be another leaf or two. So. This table can be a square 40' X 40' and 29 1/4' tall or it can be 59' L X 40' W X 29 1/4' H. Gorgeous wood encased loveseat in the style of Milo Baughman. This is a vintage item from the 1970's and in overall very good condition for the age. The fabric has some tears along the seams and I would recommend recovering the sofa which wouldn't be too difficult since most of the sofa is wood. The pillows and some small sections attached to the sofa would need to be recovered(if you so desired) I just can't help but think how fabulous this would be in a Kelly green velvet!
