Offering a small antique French Vernis Martin sedan chair. It measures approx. 3.25" wide X 3.5" deep X 6.5" tall. Beautiful piece. Old- missing enamel mostly on the front and then the left side- right side is the best- and the beveled glass is missing from the left side. Red silk( velvet covering the top and back and brighter on the inside floor. The right inside has a'vent' with lace attached that would have prevented a draft coming in on the door side, Unusual and I've never seen it before. The handle is off but present- was going to glue but is inside in a small envelope. From what I've seen this seems to be an early piece- simply shows more detail than a later piece I have. We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique chair. The chair dates to the late 19th or early 20th century and has been restored. The chair features carved wood frame with French. Louis XVI details. The chair has an ornate back with acanthus scrolls and flower medallion all in raised relief. The chair has sleek, curved arms with wide, paw like arm rests. The back legs are straight and nondescript. The front legs have cabriole lines and large paw/claw feet with nice details. The front legs are on metal casters. The frame has been painted at some point(not by us) and the paint does have a"milk paint" look to it. The painting has been expertly done with a beautiful color palette which is neutral but very striking. The colors of paint are a very light coffee/cream tan with a darker, chocolate brown as contrast. The flowers in the ... morecenter back have a blue tone to them. The fabric has also been replaced at some point. A patterned and textured, dupioni silk has been used on the seat. It features a cream or light tan back ground with a raised, geometric pattern. The upholstery is most likely not original. it is very clean but faded and in usable condition. The back of the chair shows brush marks indicating that it may have been touched up at some point. Thonet Bentwood Chair French Caning Cir 1800s Pin Stripe Painted Grain. You have the opportunity to buy an unusual and scarce early unmarked Thonet bent wood chair with original hand caning. Small weaved French pattern design. With all good things some bad must come. The good news is you have the opportunity the buy this scarce and rare chair, the bad news is you're going to look at it and enjoy it unless you do some repair work. I would say there's no doubt about it that this was made by Thonet, and originally had a paper label that fell off. There is a number 80 which is stamped into different positions. The wood looks to be Oak and the heavy grain was pinstriped with a dark stain to accent the chair, at the factory. This has the original finish and hand graining on it. There is consistent wear and damage due to a chair being this ... moreold. Description of the condition is as follows, there is a Nick on the right arm on the top, and finish chipping on the inner curve. The left arm has a split at the top where it connects to the back. The original caning is still in good condition and the caning resembles the French pattern with 3/16"holes. The size of the caning is not a complete circle, but measures 18.75 x 18.75. The back of the chair has finish chipping in six positions and a break at the right middle. The right front leg is a large missing chip on the bottom for. Both legs need gluing. The inner ring has five finish chipping, and a crack at the right rear leg, both legs have dings on the bottom. There is a round head bolt that was added to the back arm. The height of the chair is 38 1/2 inches. The widest part of the arms is 22 inches. The seats it's 19 inches off the ground. Please look close at the pictures as they are part of the description.
