4" tall. Made of wood. Unique piece. As we were photographing this we noticed that one of the corners has a little split in the wood. Please see the photo. It is a minor flaw. Georgian solid oak bookcase cabinet hand cut dovetails drawer moveable shelves
Antique oak. I think, bookcase/cupboard with drawer below. I am not absolutely sure on the date of manufacture but it has hand cut hidden uneven dovetail joints. Machine made dovetails came in the 1860's. Picture 3 shows the inside, side of the cabinet with pieces of wood which can be moved to adjust the height of the shelves, one of these pieces of wood looks unoriginal. Picture 4 shows the inside of the drawer and the square cut legs. The cupboard lock in picture 5, along with the drawer lock are marked/stamped'H.A.S. LEVER' I can't find the maker on the net. The drawer handles are a cast iron tear drop shape, held with an old square black nut on the inside of the drawer. Measure 4 feet high, 3 feet wide and 1 foot deep. The only real decoration to this cabinet is the beading shown in picture 7, so this would look ideal ... morein an old or modern house with it's simple lines. Picture 10 shows the front dovetail of the drawer and the last picture the rear dovetails which have been chamfered at the back. I was offered a lot more money for this cabinet when I lived in London by a rag and bone man, I don't know why, so study all the pictures and make up your own mind. This really is a lovely piece of furniture with a rich deep patination and a luxurious feel to the polished top. I bought this 41 years ago from a farmhouse sale in Devon. Here is a very early and RARE Tiger Oak Danner Revolving Bookcase in the'Fumed Oak' finish that was used very often in the Arts and Crafts(Stickley Era) by most makers of Mission Oak furniture. The Paine Furniture(established in 1835) company sold Danner bookcases of this type with the wider slats and decorative hobnails. There are a few"scars of time" that only add authenticity and charm to this treasure. Overall measurements are 26" square and 58" high. There are four levels with 16 bookcase sections. All measuring 16" wide, 7" deep and 11" high. The stenciled"Danner Trade Mark" is seen on a top level section. The tiger oak used is top of the line! The steel and oak base is original and this Danner spins nicely. It is rare to see a model with the large center wooden pole visible.very ... morenice! Professional palleted crating.
