The top is item#11-9224 ... morein the#225 finish and the bottom is item#11-9223 in the#225 finish. The secretary can be found on page#131 in the 80th edition of the Ethan Allen Treasury of American Traditional Interiors. Ethan Allen describes their Georgian Court line as having. Intricate details crafted by skilled aritsans in fine cabinet woods such as solid Cherry and carefully selected veneers. Georgian Court accents offer pure traditional styling of exceptional beauty and value to provide lasting delight and satisfaction to all who want to enhance their own homes with the graceful designs of our great heritage. The secretary top measures 36" wide x 46" high x 10" deep and features beveled glass doors as well as two adjustable cherry wood shelves that are grooved for china display. The back is selected veneer. The top has gorgeous carving and a pretty finial. The secretary base measures 36.5" wide x 41" high x 19" deep and features five drawers and a drop front with lock with key. There are cubbies inside the desk base as well as two drawers. The drawers are very clean inside. This secretary was manufactured in January. 1980 and is in excellent condition overall with a few exceptions. There are light dings and one more noticeable ding on the front of the secretary where it drops down(see pics#10, 11) There are also a few tiny chips low on the front two feet and one chip on the very back side of the secretary top. It is not very noticeable when it is against the wall, unless you are looking at the back(see pic#12) The Ethan Allen name is stamped in the top drawer and the date as well as the item number are stamped on the back. Ethan Allen manufactures high quality investment grade furniture that can be passed down through generations. The astragal glazed doors at the top all lock. And each section of glass is an individual pane. This combined with the dovetailed drawers shows the high level of quality that went into the creation of this lovely bookcase. Originally made around 1960, the bookcase remains in very good condition today with minor wear around the feet and step back where the lower cabinet meets the upper cabinet. The wooden shelves in the upper cabinet are adjustable with a brass pigeon hole system. The entire bookcase comes apart into two pieces(top and bottom) to make it easier to move. The shelf depth in the upper cabinet is 10.75" Each drawer has a brass swan neck drop pull and opens and closes very easily. Finally, the top is finished off with a dentil moulded cornice. Classical Empire Secretary Bookcase C. 1840
Classical mahogany secretary bookcase of impressive size and proportions C. 1840. Completely devoid of hardware this desks cabinets and drawers are only accessible by key. The full freestanding columns flanking the bookcase have ionic carved capitols and turned bases. The plinth style base conceals six brass rollers. The case is made of Mahogany with highly figured mahogany veneers over white pine. All components are mortised through or dovetailed. Drawer sides are mahogany(denoting a quality shop) and bottoms are poplar. The sever style suggests Boston origin to me but that's just my best guess. Two original shelves remain the others are replacements. Finish is original and has been refreshed with a new polish, overall it presents very well(especially the color) with a few minor blemishes. The finish has wonderful warm patina on walnut with matched burl panels. Waxed and polished. All that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Shelves adjust on wooden supports. Doors have a working lock and original wavy glass. Measurements of this antique European furniture are 48" wide. 18" deep and 6' 9" tall.
