You see the condition, she definitely has character. The bare wood was once covered with a heavy type decorative paper, most of that is gone but you see some remnants of that in places. The original label was found in the trunk. It belonged to a gentleman in Escanaba Michigan. Maybe you can reincorporate the label back into a repurpose project(maybe lacqure it onto the top side? There is leather and metal construction incorporated into this little trunk. The leather handle is broken and the leather straps are gone with just some of their remnants being in place. The trunk is still 100% solid. This trunk will make a killer repurpose project, you just need to use your imagination, is it a small table, a small storage trunk for a big city loft apartment? Center latch is slightly corroded but functional, silver color. Handle seems like bakelite or early plastic material. The outside has some scratches, lots of character. Antique LOT: 1920s Suitcase Shwayder Trunk Mfg. Co & '30s Cornell U Gym Clothes
Antique 1920s Suitcase by Shwayder Trunk Mfg. Co. with Cornell U. Gym Clothes This is an early Cornell University student travel train case or suitcase from the 1920's. This was made by The Shwayder Trunk Co. which later became Samsonite. The size is about 24" l x 8" w x 13" high(closed) There is an old paper university seal on one side that reads"The Cornell University" This leather(or faux leather) case has a pair of outside straps made of a hard rubber. The case has metal protectors at all of the corners. With black coating on them(possibly nickel or nickel plated) This has the last owner's monogram on the top- LMB' in gold. The center lock latch works and reads: Shwayder Trunk Mfg. Co. no key) The outside pair of latches are also marked: Shwayder, Denver, Detroit. The inside is a brown plaid type of ... morematerial, very stiff, on top of a center cardboard divider, with 4 leather straps to hold clothes in place. Problems: 1 inside strap is broken/detached from the case; some wear to the lining(unknown material) a small tear near an outside corner; the outside rubber straps(2) are deteriorating BUT have a heavy woven center core. There is a patent pending number on the hard rubber handle that dates it to 1928. We are not certain if this is LEATHER OR FAUX LEATHER. It is stiff with a textured surface like leather but the stiffness tends to lead us to think it might be what is called leatherette. There are no strong odors. Just some mustiness as this sat unopened for quite some time. Along with the suitcase. Are the clothes that were packed inside. There are a number of pieces of women's gym clothes. The initials on the suitcase match the students name which is marked inside each piece of clothing. In full or as just initials, LMB(Lucile M. Backus) According to a Google search, she graduated in the Class of 1936. CLOTHING INCLUDES(no sizes marked on garments- they seem be in the range of small to medium- kept loose in that time period for young ladies in athletic programs) 1 pc.

This is a totally retro early 20th century wardrobe trunk. Which makes a perfect coffee table. It measures about 40" x 22" including the handle) and is about 15" deep when closed. I'll mostly let the pictures do the talking, but you can see how sturdy it is, and it comes with four drawers on the right side and room to hang your clothes and store your valuables and toiletries on the left. The manufacturer's diamond-shaped tag says"Dependo, Petersburg, Virginia" in the center; Independent Trunk& Bag Company" across the top; and"Dependable Luggage" along the bottom. It is in used and worn condition. Both inside and out, and, more specifically, it has the initials"H.M.M. in red paint on one end; the carrying handle is missing(from the same end) and the lock has been busted off. The lock ... moreis included, but separated and stuck in the closed position. It is numbered"912" and marked"Akinson& Long Mfg. Co. Everlasting Lock, New York, NY. We don't have the key for it, in case you hadn't already guessed. Because our trusty bathroom scale tells us it weighs more than the postal limit of 70 pounds. Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Tin Covered Floral Pattern Victorian
A sweet Victorian style antique steamer trunk from approximately the late 1800's. It measures 28" long X 17" wide x 22' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with a dark red/ dark rust colored floral patterned embossed tin and the tin is in very nice condition. It has a dome top with hardwood slats that are held in place with brass tacks. It has the remnants of a chromolithograph on the inside of the lid featuring a child holding a kitten but it's in poor condition. The trunk used to be lined with paper but most of it has worn off over the years. The bottom of the trunk has 3 plain hardwood slats running across the bottom over black tin and there are 4 small wheels(one on each corner) that make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are ... moreno moth ball odors. Just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. The black banding on the lid sides needs repair and the hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The locking mechanism in the center is very plain and it appears to be damaged. Please view all of the photos, they are an important part of the description. This decorative old trunk could be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home. There are several sites on-line that offer free advise on how to restore antique trunks and the majority of them sell the parts you'll need. He was found at an estate sale of a African American Family. It looks like he used to be able to cry but that part does not work any longer. He feels like he is stuffed with straw. The chest portion where it attaches has some very sharp points. He is not bisque. I do not know what his head and arms are made of. Pretty good shape overall for age. I can not find any markings. Antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk with Civil War history
You are bidding on an authentic Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Serial# 40294, purchased per Louis Vuitton France, around 1892. All materials are original except for the lock. The top leather strap is missing. There are a few tears on the rear of the trunk. Truck dimensions are 36 inches wide x 20 inches deep x 21 inches high. The ends of the trunk are personalized by a red trefoil with"New York" written within and the initials"A.S.W. written below. The red trefoil is the regimental symbol of the Army of the Potomac, II Corps, 2nd Division. The trunk belonged to General Alexander Stewart Webb, Medal of Honor winner at Gettysburg, and later president of the City College of New York for 32 years. My grandfather was the caretaker of Ventfort Hall(an estate in Lenox. MA built by the Morgan family and later occupied by the Roscoe Bonsal ... morefamily) My grandmother was a domestic at Springlawn(a neighboring estate in Lenox, MA) built by John Alexandre. One of General Webb's daughters married John Alexandre and so the Webb family were frequent visitors at both estates. I expect the Webbs left the trunk in Lenox which was then offered to my grandfather. Binder detailing the historical background of General Webb, his family and the trunk, will be included. For your bidding consideration today. We have a rare antique child or doll size antique steamer trunk, just like the big ones! The trunk is made of wood, with a tweed looking covering on the outside. This trunk stands up like the larger ones,with drawers on one side, and the opposite side has the lift top,with a hanging bar underneath. It has a center lock, and two side closures. The center lock is marked USA EXCELSIOR STANFORD CONN. The drawers have wood sides, and I think heavy cardboard on the front, back and bottom. They have a leather pull on each drawer. It is rare to see a trunk made this way in this size. The piece measures 22" tall, and 10.5" wide and deep. There are some spots, on the bottom if you had the piece standing up, on the outside and inside, maybe water damage, I don't know. There is scattered spots on the ... morehe outside, and I have not attempted to clean them. There is some rust on the hinges, and bumped corners that show the wood, and the leather handle at the top is missing. All in all, a very nice collectible that would be great in a children's room, or could be used for a doll display. It weighs almost 10 pounds before packing. Vintage MADLER KOFFER Steamer Trunk German. Circa 1914 DESCRIPTION: A World War I era steamer trunk manufactured by a company that is considered to be the German Louis Vuitton when it comes to quality of workmanship. Moritz Madler Co. of Leipzig. Germany was the largest trunk maker in Germany and patented this trunk style with the narrow wood slats and canvas covered wood body. 39" x 22" x 18. Has the owner's initials, H.B.G. printed on the top. Exterior is varnished canvas with a great patina. Interior is white canvas, all intact. Four canvas straps have MADLER embroidered on them. Corners have brackets for an interior shelf(not present) CONDITION: Please see photographs. I actually salvaged this one last week from the side of the road. It had been rained on the night before. So there is some water staining of the interior ... morecanvas, and it has a slightly musty smell that has improved as it's aired out. It's completely dry now. Overall in sturdy shape, r etaining original varnished and painted surface. Framed with original bentwood supports. One leather handle is missing, the other is broken. Slight warp to front and a couple of tears to canvas that don't really take away from the appearance. Looks like someone tried to break into it at some point; the locks are not functional, but may be restorable. Looks like someone must have put on an additional lock(it doesn't show up on the original ads) and that's missing the bottom latch(I would just remove it, but that's up to the winning bidder. For sale today is a very nicely restored small size antique flat top steamer trunk by Henry lLikely and the restoration turned out very well. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1890's to early 1900's which makes this awesome old flat top a 100 to 120 years old- a true antique. Henry Likely trunks were very well made trunks and are highly collectable. The maker label is still on the trunk but it is not in very good condition. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is in good solid condition. Has been painted, has four original metal skids and has the three original bottom slats.Retains the three original hinges which are heavy duty, tight, work well and the lid closes easily. There are 30 plus pieces ... moreof original polished hardware and has the original center lock- no key. The two original mechanical latches are HD tight and one works well and one works with a little effort. There are six original solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The interior has been removed and it has the original tray which has been restored. The metal/tin is in good condition. The metal lid stay is original. Two new leather handles were installed with the new end caps hardware.I will consider any reasonable offers. Antique 1920's Women's Cream Lace Jabot - Grandmother's Trunk
This lovely jabot was rescued from a dress around the 1920 era. It has been stored in Grandmother's trunk. She saved buttons. Lace, material for quilts and so much more. The jabot body is made of fine netting material. The outer edge of this netting has been embroidered(machine) with heavier lace attached all the way around. The neck area is gathered giving fullness there. The longest sides of the item measure 13 inches as well as the center neck to the point. This is a very old item and has been carefully stored. There are still some threads in the netting. No major stains however you should not expect a"new" item. This displays beautifully on costumes. no pets- no smoke Good luck bidding! Antique Chinese trunk lock with ornate designs and markings on bottom. 3 inches long. No key I believe the material is primarily bronze and mixed metals. I have not polished this piece. Small Antique Steel Trunk, Suitcase, Auto Trunk? Interesting Decorative Item!!!
I've had this steel trunk for years and always thought it had been made to be an auto trunk but now I'm not sure as I found a site on trunks that showed steel trunks with nubs on the top like this one. It said that the nubs were there to protect the top from trunks being stacked on it so who knows? At any rate. It's pretty cool in a rustic, decorative way. Although it has some superficial rust on top, the trunk is still quite functional with all the parts intact and a functioning lock with key. The lock has a really interesting locking system. The lid has a small mirror on the inside. The only thing that is not original is a small nut and bolt that I installed to reattach the hinge as the original bolt and nut was gone when I got it. The trunk measures 21.5" x 12.5" x 9" so it is quite small which is a good thing ... moreif you are considering it for a decorative item. It weighs just under 7 pounds. Let's start with this lovely Lady- she is an early China Head Doll with a"covered wagon hairstyle" Circa 1850 She is 18" Tall. Pink tinted head and shoulders and was"Hand-pressed into the doll head mold and has a very thick shoulder plate with sloping shoulders and Six sew holes. The pink tinting is even and creamy. No Damage and No Repairs to her head. She is Gorgeous and has extremely high quality facial painting. Doll has all the trademarks of the A.W.Fr. Lister porcelain Factory. Her fine cloth body is likely original. Twine anchors through the sew holes. As you can see there is some staining from moisture from long ago. The shoes are stitched onto her feet. ... moreHer cream arms have separately stitched fingers. Her thigh has a catalog number often seen in museum Acquisitions. She is dressed in a hand stitched period dress with a train which can be bustled up to allow for daily household activities. Her apron is a cute touch to her outfit. Large Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Manufacturer's Tag. Straps& Buckles, and Original Interior Divided Tray Here we are offering a very large refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is signed with the brass manufacturer's tag. It says. Overland Trunk" on the brass tag and we have shown a c lose up picture of this brass manufacturer's tag. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 41 inches. From floor to top is 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 22 1/2 inches. This is one of the largest trunks we have refinished this year, and it is a true flat top with no factory arch. This trunk is made up of the original brown laminate or composition exterior with the oak outer slat boards. The exterior has been given three coats of polyurethane by Minwax ... moreto preserve and protect the exterior. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass, except for the manufacturer's tag, and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk originally had a pair of leather straps which have eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base like the front latches do. The front latches are original and do work properly since the springs are intact. The edge banding and two bands running up the front and across the top are not metal. They are a pressed composition and we have left them in their brown color. This trunk comes with the original lock. It appears to be all intact. We were not able to match up a key. If you do match up a key, it does appear that this lock will work. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. A Quite Uncommon Crescent Top Stamped Tin on Wood Steamer Chest dating from the 1850's. This Unique Chest has been in one family since they came over from Scotland in the 1850's. Our belief is that it was made in London based on the construction technique and the stamping of the tin. We obtained it from a lady who was 87 years old and she stated that it was passed down from one family to the next over the years and as nobody in her family wanted it. She decided to sell it. The Chest measures 27 1/2" long by 14" wide and stands 17 1/2" in height. Condition is quite good considering its 160+ years of age. Some small surface rust, a musty small inside, one bottom corner of the tin has a small bend, paper lining worn, no key for the lock(we did not attempt to force it) normal wear, and one latch missing is just about it. ... moreBoth handles are present as are the very small bottom rollers. HUGE Antique Dome Top Camel Back Steamer Trunk --- 35.5” x 28” x 21”
This antique dome top trunk is in marvelous condition for its age. There is no major damage to this trunk. Just normal wear and tear that you would expect in an item this old… and which I will describe in detail later on…this beauty has tons of character! The beautifully curved dome top, with 5 strips of curved 2-inch wood…is a sight to behold. Just on the top of this trunk are 18 ornately etched plates of metal hardware. The lock hardware and lock are gorgeous, too. The trunk is made from tin, metal, and wood. There is a total of seventeen 2” wood strips of varying lengths found on all sides of the trunk. The wood strips look like oak to me…they’re in excellent condition. The trunk measures about 35.5” long across the bottom x 21” wide at the ends x 28” tall to the center of the dome, which is the highest point. There is some surface rust ... moreon the trunk. Mainly on the bottom…nothing has rusted through. In many of the photos where I used flash, it appears that there is rust on a lot of the surface area. This does not show up as prominently under normal lighting conditions. I believe that perhaps the trunk has been varnished and/or stained at one time… there is a beautiful glossy finish to the tin surface. Most of the ornate hardware is in excellent condition, also…a few pieces are bent or have minor damage. There’s lots of surface dents on the tin, as you would expect. The lock does not work. The hinged lock tabs do not close. The hinge inside of the trunk that holds the lid open is broken…it needs repair or replacement. The leather handles at each end of the trunk are new…I would not try to lift the trunk with these handles, however. Following is a brief description of each side of the trunk. With information that I have not already mentioned: Dome Top: Beautiful curved top with five 2-inch curved wood strips. Wonderful ornately etched metal hardware nailed at the ends of each wood strip. I've found and sold over 200 jenny lind trunks this is only the 2nd I've ever seen with an eagle stamped into the acorn shaped door over the keyhole. History before that time is unknown but it is thought that his Bohemian grandmother used it when she left Minnesota in the 1880s. Originally black. Refurbished to royal blue. New straps, reconditioned exterior wood, painted brass. The beautiful interior is new: lined with quilted blue fabric, white brocade trim, and cedar. Lock is not functional. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE DOME TOP WOOD TRUNK ORIGINAL SURFACE An early wooden trunk from farm country here in the Midwest. Presented exactly as found and showing original paints and patina. Domed top trunk measures 20.5" x 11.5" x 12" As you can see. The wear on this piece is pretty extreme.that's what makes it so prim perfect! The photos provide the best description as far as the paint finish goes. The remaining blue/cream paint is very dry and will flake off a bit if not handled carefully. All of the metal hardware is original and secure. The"u" shaped fitting for threading a lock on the receiver plate is slightly loose but still intact. There are only a few remnants of paper that once lined the interior. Considering age. Wood is in good condition, there are typical dings, chips, etc. Some of the nails at the corners ... moreare slightly exposed due to the wood wearing away. Nice Small Size Antique Trunk w/Curved Lid Professional Restoration! Very Old!
For sale today is a restored is a stagecoach style curved top antique trunk. The restoration of this great old trunk turned out very very nice. The pictures do not do it justice. I did not find any patent dates on this trunk and based on 49 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1850's to 1860's which makes this awesome old stagecoach trunk as much as 160 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid and has had several coats of clear applied. There are two original slats on the bottom. The trunk has the two original hinges which are HD. Tight, work well and the lid closes well. It has 4 pieces of original polished hardware. Still has the original center lock which has been polished, is missing the top half and there is no key. ... moreThere are 3 original solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The interior paper has been removed and it has the tray is long gone. All the metal is in very good condition. the trunk has the original oak steam bent handles that seem to last forever.
