Trunk Antique Large 1880's Camelback Saratoga All Original Lock Barrel Key
For your consideration. This rare large(interior 36"L x 21"W x 29"D) 36"H, including lid, old(1880's) barrel stave top style Saratoga trunk with metal edge binding and trim, original working double hasp brass lock and iron latches. It has five hardwood slats across the top and two across the front, rear and both sides. Trunk body is thick pine and was probably covered in leather when new. The original working lock with spring loaded key cover and barrel key were made by Star Lock Works of Philadelphia. Ornamental cast metal clamps on the slat ends as well as the cast iron latches on the front were patented by Charles Taylor in 1877& 1878. Copies of original patent applications and other historical paperwork included) The bottom still has the original wood slats and sheet iron covering. Interior is cleaned out to ... morethe bare wood. This trunk is in overall good, nearly complete, unrestored condition with some surface wear and typical signs of age and use. Antique Flat Topped Steamer Trunk
This is a flat top steamer trunk that has been refinished. The outside oak trim is in excellent condition and the rest of the outside has been painted. It comes with the key to lock/unlock it and has the removable inside tray. The inside has been papered by my mother and this comes from her estate. Comes from a smoke/pet free home. This is a beautiful very old antique suitcase/trunk. It comes with the original keys and they work great. It appears to be made of cardboard and it looks like it's lined with fabric. It has leather corners and brass?hardware. I got it at an estate sale with a lot of very old items. I'm guessing late 1800- early 1900. It has normal wear. But is in great shape. Nice old trunk for doll clothes in the shape of a dome trunk. Measures 12" X 7 1/4" X 7 1/4" This trunk has many condition issues and please use the photos as part of the description so you can see exactly what you are getting. The leather handles are gone; the lock does not work; there is a lot of wear and tear on the outside. Both on the leather and the paper. The top of the trunk is very dark, is very worn around the edges, and is separating from the box on one corner- I did not attempt to clean. I believe there once was a tray inside which is missing. And the inside paper is torn and stained. On a good note, the hinges work nicely and the wood appears solid with no holes. IF YOU WANT TO SEE ANY FURTHER IMAGES PLEASE JUST ASK. This lovely coffer dates originally from c.1720. But has had carving and alteration added over the years. Most of the alteration is old, probably Victorian, in date. The coffer has a planked top, and a heavily carved front and sides- we believe that the carving was added later, probably in the early Victorian times. It is supported on straight legs with carved shoulders at the front. The coffer has metal hinges, which are old, although we do not believe them to be original to the piece. The bits of newspaper covering the hinges are dated 1798 and 1799. The coffer retains a lock, but this is wobbly and we do not know whether it works ... moreor not- please note that no key is present. The coffer is constructed from solid oak. Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition. But with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some overall scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. As is mentioned above the coffer has had significant alteration over the years- the carving has been added, the hinges have been replaced, and the front plank of the top is also a replacement. A piece of wood has been added to the underneath of the top to strengthen it. There are some areas of wood loss, and some signs of old woodworm- this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. The carved shoulder at the left-hand side of the front is a little loose, as is the lock. There is some wood shrinkage cracking to the planks of the base. The top has some scratching and heavy indentation. Please refer to photographs below. Over the next two weeks I am listing a HUGE selection of BEAUTIFUL RARE Antiques& Collectibles which all came from a Southeastern New Jersey Estate. I have an amazing little miniature dome lid trunk. An authentic antique Victorian period one. Made sometime between 1850-1899. It is either a salesmans sample or a doll trunk. Either way it is a fantastic Primitive piece. Folk art like. Has a solid wood hand constructed body. With beautiful original wall paper wrapping all around it and inside in various patterns. With a metal band around the edge. With the original lock. I do not have the key for it. It has leather strap hinges on the back. Which are no longer attached. So the lid comes all the way off. It then has great brass or metal tacks all around it. This trunk is an estate find from Hop Bottom. Pennsylvania. There aren't any maker marks on the trunk. The lock is marked Eagle Lock Company- Terryville, Conn. The trunk is in good functional condition and is an excellent candidate for a repurposing. Perhaps as a coffee table. The size of the trunk is 23 1/4 inches tall x 22 inches wide x 36 inches long. All of the hardware functions normally and appear to be brass. The tin cladding and wood accents have beautiful patinas. The interior appears to be original. The interior tray is missing. Fabulous! Gorgeous! This steamer trunk is just magnificent. In excellent condition though a little dirty from age and use. Wooden frame is wrapped in a black painted canvas. Drawers are wrapped in yellow canvas except where the floral fabric is present. Drawers are wood! The chest has brass or brass plated heavy duty rounded corners. The strapping is some form of inflexible metal. Steel perhaps. The leather handle is missing one end and does slip out. But w 85% of handle present the handle could be duplicated w authenticity to original design! Emblems are beautiful! Shiny and detailed. L.W. is painted and bright in a classical shadow block font. The lock outside works as does top drawer lock! Original keys. All hinges and seaman are solid and tight. Trunk is in excellent functioning condition! The laminated hangers are included! I believe G53 refers to the key number which, through research, I found is available for sale through a trunk restoration website. I can provide you with that name and website url after purchase.
