I regret that I do not know the history of this piece. I would estimate that it dates from the first 1/2 of the 19th Century or possibly earlier. Those possessing more knowledge than I of wood and iron working would have a better idea. Country of original is also an unknown as I have assumed this to be an early. Small immigrant chest or possibly that of a child. It is 15 3/8” tall, 18 3/4” wide, and 12 3/4” deep. The finish appears to be original. Antique Circus Carnival Cane Stick Elephant Head w/ Trunk Up NICE Paint ! JAPAN
A recent estate sale purchase. A vintage carnival cane probably from the 1940's when these were popular. I believe it's porcelain, it's stamped on the underside'JAPAN' It hasn't been cleaned up because I didn't want to damage it. Other than some surface dirt there are no issues that I could find, no chips. Cracks, repairs and no missing paint. The head is light blue- the inside of the ears are pink- the tusks and eyes are black and there's a red/brown band around the neck The yellow wood stick that it came on may not be the original, we have no way of knowing but that's how we purchased it. The elephant's head does not fit properly and there's a wobble. It measures just over 35" in overall length.

Aside from that, this is in great condition considering it is nearly 150 years old. It is complete with good straps and buckles. No key for the lock. The leather is all in good condition. Just normal edge wear that is expected for something of this age. The interior is in nice clean condition. I do see one of the little metal legs on the bottom is missing. The hinges work properly. Beautiful Antique Doll Trunk & Treasures - Clothes
This auction is for a beautiful wooden antique doll trunk and it comes with some lovely treasures inside. It measures 11 1/2" x 7 1/4" wide and it is almost 7 1/2" tall. The wood is beautiful and this antique doll trunk has a slight dome shaped top. The cover is lined on the inside in some very nice ancient paper(the paper has some stains but even so it is still very nice) and the pattern is lovely. It has a wonderful wooden tray(insert) and the inside is pretty neat and clean. The trunk has lots of age appropriate wear including some splits near two of the corners on the top- the lock hardware on the inside is missing and there is no key- and the outside has normal nicks. Scratches, gouges, marks, dings, etc. in other words age appropriate wear and tear but this is just one of those antiques that keeps on getting better and ... morebetter as it ages- it has the most wonderful look to it. Some of the old contents include: old doll shoes- antique doll pocketbooks- old toys- a fabulous early Jester- nice old slips- pantaloons, dresses a few old dishes etc. There are about 22 items in all. This is a very old steamer trunk that measures 34" wide x 19" deep x 18" high. It is a caramel brown color very true to placard picture. The metal placard reads Reisearlikel-Fabrik Gebr. Locher Zurich. The top has stenciled letters FRAGILE A.D. NEW YORK. It has solid brass hardware with patina on the escucheon. There are 2 wooden bent straps around the middle and the edge reinforcements seem to be made of leather. A blue and white nautical flag is on the front and sides. It weighs about 45 lbs.

Antique 1886 Pressed tin croc/alligator trunk w/insert tray in very good cond.
Truly beautiful antique 1886(marked) trunk with pressed tin made to look like alligator or crocodile. That is so good that it fooled me when I bought it out of an estate in Hartford, CT last month. Did not get to open it until I got home and then I got the best surprise.The interior insert drawer is in fabulous condition but does have wear to the edges! I have done nothing to this trunk but clean the exterior and put two layers of satin spray laquer on it to protect it. There was only light rust that came off easily, the interior is completely untouched. There are tiny wheels inset to the bottom so you can move it around easily. The interior hinges that keep the top from falling all the way back when opened need to be reattached and there are no leather handles. There is a crack across the inside of the inner wood decoration as seen in the ... morepics, otherwise not much expected age wear. Measures 26 inches long, 16 wide and 14 high with curved top sides. There is a key but I do not know if it is original, although it does work. Please see all pics, enlarge and ask any questions before bidding. Antique Camelback Trunk Nice vintage trunk approximately 28"L by 15 1/2"D by 17 1/2"H. Made around 1880, the metal clovers? on top read(pat'd Mar 16, 1880) it is trimmed with pressed metal panels made to look like alligator skin. The trunk is solid, the bottom wheels are all in good working condition, the lid is firmly attached and it has it's inside drawer. Up for sale is this Antique Came l Ba ck/Dome Steamer Trunk. It measures approximately 24" tall. 24 1/2" long. And 18 1/2" deep. The trunk has very ornate tin floral sheeting across the top and the outside panels of the trunk. This trunk is in good condition. With wear co nsistant with age. Trunk does not lock. A n d key is not included. The leather s trap handles have deteriorated with age and have torn and frayed. But are still attached. The inside of the trunk is papered with a patterned paper and has a colorful border as well as a large sticker. And the original tray is included, however the tray ha s cracked at the bottom from age and use. p lease see pictures for details) The bottom of the tru nk is cracked in places and the hinge at the back of the trunk is starting to break away. The bottom is on rollers. Two of which ... moreare missing, and the other two are intact. The trunk is very old. And has some scratching and marks along the outside. This one is a beauty. Up for auction today we have a refinished antique trunk dating to the 1830's- there was newpaper from that date inside when it was found in its"before" state. Originally leather covered, the leather was dried and tattered, worn and falling off- this trunk shines and is ready for any room in your home or office to provide much needed storage of important papers, photographs, or photo albums. Measures 27 x 14 x 10.5 inches- great, great size. I love the handles and amazing that they lasted all these years! Rare Antique Hide Trunk/Chest from South America
This is a rare antique leather and hide trunk or chest from the South American frontier. These were used by Gauchos to store items being carried on Llamas and by families for storing blankets and house hold items. The chest is very lightweight and has an inner rib like structure made of wood. The remainder of the chest is made entirely of hide or leather. It also has iron hardware on the front. The particular piece is from the estate of Joanne Hearst Castro; granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst. I believe it was from one of her estates in Santiago Chile. Finding these can be extremely difficult. Several antique dealers have priced the items from $1000 to well over $2500. You can see a few for sale on 1st dibs.

Alligator Embossed Steamer Trunk 1890-1910 This is a versatile and attractive trunk from the turn of the century. A solidly constructed steamer made of wood, trimmed with embossed alligator tin, and featuring a lid with only a slight arc. It’s 34 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and 22.5 inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and two slats on the front and back. It has new thick black leather handles and a new lid stay– otherwise in original condition. The alligator pattern has been refinished in a rich. Reddish brown that is darker than it may appear in the flash photos. Although there is no evidence of its manufacturer. It was purchased for restoration in Maine, and its design and appointments mirror those of trunks produced in the Northeast between ... more1890 and the early 1900s. The bottom has been cleaned. Painted, and sealed with polyurethane so it safely sits on floors or carpets. The trunk is solid and clean and has absolutely no stale or musty odors. The hinges are tight and the lid fits securely when closed, yet opens easily. Although there is no key, and the lock does not work, the latches operate correctly. The inside has been cleaned. Sanded, and finished with golden oak stain and tung oil so it’s ready for use as storage or display. In addition to new leather handles. We at this time have a large quantity of Antique. Vintage and other Collectible items that came from our Aunt and Uncle's estate. They were self made professional people who knew the value of things and how to take care of them. Their smoke free home was very nice and well kept with no pets. This old trunk is well preserved for it's age. It is sturdy and mostly intact with quite a bit of ornate detailing on the flat metal and reinforcing overlays. The hinges and buckles are also in working condition and the inserted original storage tray is also still with it and in good condition which seems to be missing with most of the kinds of trunks. Antique Wood & Leather Trunk J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Chicago
Antique 19th century trunk made by J.H. McNamara's Trunk Works Nos. 138. 140 and 142 Monroe St. Fort Dearborn Bld. Chicago. It measures 40 1/2" across, 24 1/2" high, 16" deep and weighs 55 lbs. The trunk is all original. The wood and leather has a lovely patina. The inside has two levels of cloth covered trays, and a box that slides from left to right. These trays all have leather straps. The label is on the inside cover, also the original paper tag written with the owners name W.E.H, 251 North Grove St. East Orange, N.J. There is a brass plaque on the top with the maker's name. There are no cracks inside or outside the trunk. There is a small gouge on the front right side of the trunk. The inside fabric on the side shows some wear. This is an absolutely gorgeous Antique arch top chest approximately 3ft wide 25 inches tall 20 inches deep It is made of hard wood and wrapped in old metal sheeting that gives it a beautiful distressed look. It has some wear expected with age but its sturdy. Well built and in good condition for its age. Please inspect pics for condition. The leather handles have worn out and there is some rust on the outer metal wrap. It has a cool antique poster inside that comes with it. It's old and has a slight moth ball scent on the inside. I'm that could be easily removed. I threw some dryer sheets in it and its already going away. The lock is long gone but probably safer that way if you kids. Antique 1830's Wooden Dome Top Trunk with Maker Label and freshy lined
I picked this up from my mother's after she lined it and I was very tempted to keep it- the lining is gorgeous and so wonderful that it still retains original makers label. Some years ago. Someone else stripped the trunk of the old leather but kept the nice brass tack decorations. Trunk has original thick leather handles and is all wood. Nice honey color, the wood is nice and smooth- but as any item over 100 years old it is not perfect- it has character dings and scratches- evidence of a life well lived and traveled. Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. And a few cracks on the bottom. The chest measures 22" long X 10 1/2" wide. And sits 8" tall. If there are any questions please feel free to ask& I will answer them best I can. This is an auction for an antique vulcanized fiber trunk/case. Since I originally posted this auction I have learned about what this item actually is. What I thought was leather was really vulcanized fiber. It was probably produced in the the 1920's and was used for shipping/mailing items like clothes or laundry. It has working hinges and solid rivets. The handle has broken and mostly disintegrated. One of the latches works and the other one is missing the buckle. I'm sorry I can't tell you anything about the brand of this case/trunk. There is no label on the interior or exterior. All I know is that it was in our family for over 50 years and it was used for storage throughout this time. Structurally. It is in good condition. The most evident problem is the wear showing on some of the creases and several worn spots on the edge ... moreof the top. Otherwise, the fiber is stiff and solid. I have not attempted to clean the fiber in any way as I am inexperienced in the care of vulcanized fiber. Cosmetically, there are marks on the surface from stickers, decals and tape. This is an antique trunk that I purchased over 12 years ago from an antique dealer in CT. It has raised metal sides. I believe they are tin. The inside has worn fabric and a hidden trap door. It is a really cool and if I had room I wouldn't part with it. I used it as a coffee table. The measurements are approximately 30 1/2" long X 17 1/2" wide X 20" high. This is a ca.1880 ladies hat trunk. It is 22.5"x 16.5"x 19.5"tall and weighs 22 lbs. Sometimes called a half trunk. It is solid pine with oak slats. The steel lock is original with a working key. The leather handles and straps have been replaced. The interior has been refinished and has a reprint of this trunks original lithagraph. The P. Brown label is original. Up for auction is a Wood and metal humpback chest. The chest is original there has been no restoration done to it. The chest measures 26" long 17" tall 15" wide the paper on the inside of the chest is original there is a broken handle and some hardware issues that come with age. The inside tray is long gone. This chest has been kept inside a apartment for most of its life. It was not used for storage but as a showpiece so it has been kept very clean.
